Our first trip to Costco

My mom had a costco card when I was in high school. I hadn’t been in one since then which was over 20 years ago…geez I’m old. When my kids were little I had Sams club because it was up the street. Never thought to get a Costco card number 1 it was too far and I figured well they sell the same thing as Sams so there is no need but boy was I wrong. I will say I wanted to try a few things that I saw other people buy from there which is really what led me to go there. I also wanted to have a card as a backup for bulk items when my sons friends come to visit or I am having a party and need more supplies. I didn’t think I would need a card for bulk items since I don’t have babies anymore. See the only reason I had Sams was because I needed diapers in bulk. After my kids got to middle school I didn’t renew my membership. So we took a trip to Costco to see what all the hype was about. See what we bought that I would buy again, what I wasn’t pleased with, and why I choose Costco over Sams. (this is not a sponsored post)

Our first trip to Costco

So everyone was talking about the Bitchin sauce. Yes that’s the name

Hmmm I didn’t like it. I know a lot of people do but it doesn’t really hit for me. I am glad it’s organic and an option but this one just didn’t do it. I was disappointed but what really surprised me was the ….

Taco kit.

This right here is everything….EVERYTHING!

I didn’t go to get this but I will travel again to get this. It was more than enough to feed a family of 3 with leftovers.

Along with the taco kit. Here are some other items we bought

  • Fruit – Which weren’t that good when we got home and took it out of the pack most of it was bad and molded
  • Breakfast meats (the only meats we bought since we were a long way from home)
  • Cereal
  • Oil
  • Muffins – You had to buy 2 packs and couldn’t buy just one which I thought was weird because I didn’t need 12 muffins
  • Organic Sugar
  • Animal Crackers (organic and it reminded me of childhood)
  • Salad stuff (this lasted a while we put them in plastic bags to make sure we had it for a few days)
  • Some pancakes that didn’t need syrup (waffles too)
  • Some meat like the one below (A lot of them were expiring soon though so I didn’t like that at all)
  • Some towels and washrags
  • We also put in some gas because why not

What I loved about Costco was the selection of organic things that they had. I loved that because I love buying good stuff and I want to make sure I have enough of it at all times. I also loved that they had a lot of ready-made meals which is so good for busy working families. I see meals in Publix but Costco has it presented better and more variety that the entire family can enjoy. My kids see the ones at Publix and don’t want it because it doesn’t look kid-friendly. What I don’t like about Costco is that it’s far (45 min away from me…an hour with traffic) and a lot of things were out of date or soon to be out of date.

When you go there buy the taco kit and all the ready-made meals. You can fix them for lunch or dinner. Buy your membership online and then go to the front desk customer service section and they will print your card for you to use. I made the mistake of getting to the register without a card and it was a hassle.

I wish there was one near me but I see myself going to Costco maybe once every other month just to get some of those taco kids and ready made meals because that was a lifesaver last week.

So which one do you like Sams or Costco? Also if you don’t feel like going anywhere you can always use Boxed if you are looking for dry goods delivered. I have used them before and there is no need for a card and you get some great brands.

I prefer Costco over Sam’s Club but I have a membership for both warehouses. I keep my Sam’s membership because the carry some things Costco doesn’t and I shop there for work projects sometimes .

I think Sam’s mainly because they have scan & go and you can use your phone to scan items & skip the line. I’ve heard that Costco has this but the one near me does not.
