How to hire kids for your small business

My son has been trying to take pictures of me for my blog for a while now and he asked me the other day if I could hire him because he needs some money for various things. I thought about it for a few days and decided to have an interview with him and my daughter to potentially hire them for my business. I dressed up and had them dress in interview attire complete with a resume for the job. I held the interview on Wed and hired both. Here is how to hire kids for your small business and what I will be having them do within my business.

How to hire kids for your small business

First I made them complete a resume. They didn’t have to type it but they needed to give me their goals, what they can add to my business, and what they are good at. Both of them came to me with a written resume. Both resumes were done wrong and I had to sit and correct them on some things. For example, my son had on his resume that he has 0 skills. First of all, you don’t put that on a resume because you will get a 0 hire. I had to tell him to put down what he is good at and use those as skills.  My daughter put on her resume that she has anger issues…we definitely don’t need that on the resume. So we have to work on their resume skills but overall it was nice to see them do one.

How to hire kids for your small business

According to GA laws you can hire your kids and get away with not having to do a lot in the tax arena. Here is some info about it. So after I found out this info I was all about hiring them. I will pay them $10 bucks an hour for one hour twice a week.

So make them go through a real interview so they can learn and correct them on what to say and what not to say during the interview. Some of the questions I asked were…

If I hire you how your job affect your schoolwork? They didn’t know how to answer that. My son said it won’t because he will do his HW before he comes to work. My daughter said I can do it all I’m a woman.

What assets can you bring to my company? My son said his charming smile my daughter said, me. I’m the asset.. wait mom can I say assets that sounds like a cuss word. My son would not be hired for this position had this been a real interview.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? My son said out of this joint. My daughter said here with you mom. She gets points for that.

After we went over some do’s and dont’s it was time to tell them what they would be doing. Which I had no idea until an hour before the interviews I had to go on my Facebook and ask my audience what should my kids do if I were to hire them for my blog or photography business. Here are the tasks I have come up with for their age.

My son is 13 he will…

Create videos from clips that I give him

Make pinnable images using Adobe Spark (which I have trained him to do)

Like photos on both of my Instagram pages

Take pictures of me for my blog or pictures of flat lays

Help me come up with content ideas for my parenting day on social media which is going to be Thursdays

My girl Brittany said: Hire him for Customer acquisition. Have him brainstorm people that you can target and bring on as new customers.

Teja said to have him pack shirts for me

I will also have him schedule but I have to train him for that. We will start with Facebook and go from there

My daughter is 10 she will…

Like pictures on both Instagrams

Help set up pictures with content. She is the crafter and can come up with ideas for photoshoots based on the blog post

Have her do research for ideas on Pinterest and Instagram on how to sell shirts and flat lay ideas

Have her help me with my calendar for the week

Have my daughter look through Twitter for ideas on posts

So what else can they do that I haven’t added to the list?

I think this is a genius idea! A great opportunity for your kids to have a glimpse into how getting a job in the world is like, and it gives them responsibility with handling different tasks.

I think the resume was a really good idea. Those skills are really going to come in handy so working on them early helps a lot.

It is always a great idea to have kids learn how to work. My boys do yardwork for seniors.

This is great! I have recently hired my own daughter to do little things for me here and there. It has been incredibly helpful with her just taking some pictures when I do not have the time! This shows me I could have her doing even more!
