A weekend trip to Lake Lanier Islands

A few weeks ago my family and I went to Lake Lanier for the first time. Of course, if you live in GA you have heard Lake Lanier on the news many many times. I am so glad I got to check it out for myself though to see what it really was all about. You can’t believe everything you hear or read you always have to check things out for yourself. So here is how we spent a weekend at Lake Lanier Islands.

Weekend at Lake Lanier Islands

Coming from where I live in GA it took an 1 hr and 15 min to get there without traffic. It wasn’t bad at all. I didn’t know what to expect but when I arrived it was beautiful. First you have to pay to get on the island. 15 bucks for the day. Not bad at all! Once you pay they give you a map of all there is to do. The first thing we did was horseback riding. There was a rumor that this was the last time they were going to have horseback riding there at Lake Lanier so if you are reading this after the date make sure you call before you go.

My daughter went on the horses. I won’t say if I did or not (you will not see any pics if I did) but she had a blast. She said she was nervous but she made it through. She even got to pet the other animals there. She says she wants to be a veterinarian so this was the perfect chance to see if she really wanted to do this when she grew up.

After we visited the horses we went exploring. They have lake houses that you can rent overnight if you don’t want to drive back and forth. The house is directly on the lake and the views are amazing. See the video below to get a view through my eyes.

After we viewed the lake houses we then went to the beach. No not the real beach but it was damn near close to it. Y’all….I had no idea that this was the place to be. Next Summer you know where I will be right?

When we went it was the last day the beach was going to be open and it was the perfect way to end out the Summer before it got to cool.

While my daughter and her friends were at the beach I went exploring the food options. I ended up eating at Paradise Cantina right on the beach.  The tacos….y’all. It was so good and it had such a unique flavor.

After I ate I sat my butt on the beach and people watched. Here are some more highlights that I loved.

  • They have a shuttle bus so you don’t have to walk with all your stuff back and forth to your car. I parked and walked but caught the shuttle back. The walk wasn’t bad but I had a lot of stuff with me so I was tied…not tired but tied after I walked down there
  • They have a smaller lake area that the kids can play in and then they have a bigger area where you need to know how to swim a little. They do have life jackets for kids so that’s a good thing.
  • Plenty of food places to choose from
  • They have some great instagrammable spots. I might have to go back there for a photoshoot
  • Bring your own umbrella for hot days. You know all the umbrellas will be taken up fast
  • They have a tiki bar…perfect spot to chill at. I’m thinking a girls trip?
  • For the men….one word….GOLF
  • I was not dressed properly for the day…at all. Make sure you know the weather before you go

Overall I was very impressed with the area. I didn’t get to explore it all but we will be back.

Have you ever been to Lake Lanier? What are some great lakes in your neck of the woods?
