My son had his middle school dance last week Thursday. It wasn’t his first dance since he is in the 7th grade but it is the first one of the year. I can’t believe they have it on a Thursday right after school. Why can’t it be at night like a regular dance but whatever. The drill is he stays at school and the dance starts at 3 and we as parents pick them up at around 5/5:530. I got to the middle school at around 5 and these middle school kids……
Middle school kids
Me: *calling his phone* this boy phone must be dead.
Zaza: Mom you will have to go in and go get him
Me: I don’t want to go in I don’t have on a bra
I was hoping to swing by and pick him up now I gotta put on the extra get out of the car bra that I have in the console on and take my butt in the school. BTW they don’t allow parents in they stop us at the door and go get the kids
Me: *he comes out* Why aren’t you answering your phone
Dman: it went dead.
He starts talking about the dance we get in the car and drive…I’m half listening until….
Dman: the girls were saying it’s sweatpants season and Aiden and I were like whats sweatpants season
Me: *swerves a little Geesus these nasty lil girls*
Dman: Mom what does that mean because they were snickering and whispering
Me: It means that it’s getting cold and it’s time to pull out the sweats
Zaza: mom it means something else your voice went up a bit
Me: Look I said what I said now let’s change the subject

October 24, 2018 at 12:53 pmHow on earth do middle school kids know about sweatpants season and all this! It’s scary how much kids know these days. No matter how well you try and censor what you expose your kids too at home, once they are at school it’s an open battlefield. I like your writing style btw, very easy to read and funny!

October 24, 2018 at 12:55 pmI know I’m getting old(er) but my kids didn’t have middle school dances when they were growing up. And I can’t help but laugh at having to get out with no bra on.

October 24, 2018 at 3:55 pmMy kids are still in elementary school, so I don’t have to deal with all of this quite yet. But I am not looking forward to the drama of the middle school years!

October 24, 2018 at 4:40 pmI have a son in middle school and it is such a time of changes as they grow up fast during these years. My son is so aware of things and I have trouble keeping up.

October 24, 2018 at 7:02 pmMy mom picked me up from a dance once in her bathrobe and pjs. So glad it was just me and my best friend who totally understood. Her mom would do the something. I keep a jacket in the car for no bra days.

October 24, 2018 at 7:51 pmI have no idea what sweatpants season even means. Middle schoolers come up with the oddest thing. My daughter just started middle school and hasn’t gone to her first dance yet. She’s eager to though!

October 25, 2018 at 2:06 amYeah, no idea about the sweats either. Middle schoolers can be so odd. And why in the world would you have a dance right after school on a school night? That just seems a bit odd to me.

October 25, 2018 at 4:50 pmMiddle School is such a special time in a child’s life. When you go too your first middle school dance so many memories can be created from that event.

October 26, 2018 at 3:05 amI’m always amazed by what my son tells me what has been said in school. He is in 7th grade as well, but I don’t remember kids talking like that when I was in middle school. ~lol~ My son’s school has also school dances right after school. I thought that was so weird at first, but apparently, it seems like a lot of schools are now doing that.

Nicole
October 26, 2018 at 4:09 amWow, I’m so not ready for this age, lol! From the little dances/socials they have to the inappropriate conversations that they’ll have and the questions that’ll follow — again, I am so not ready! My girls are 6 and 2, so I have a little while.

October 26, 2018 at 5:25 pmFirst off I am amused that you have a bra you keep in the console. Hahahaha I burst out laughing at sweatpants season. I hope to God my son doesn’t know what that means. I would tell him, but still. Girls are fast as hell these days my gosh. As a 39-year-old woman, I too like sweatpant season. IJS
