What to do when you aren’t feeling well

This is a sponsored post by Wellstar Medical Group, but the thoughts and opinions are my own!

The emergency room is one of the best ways to test your patience. I try not to go too often but sometimes….we must do what we have to do. Now I know many of you are saying why go to the ER go to your local doctor but how do you find a local doctor when you are new in town and you don’t know anyone. Or you just got new insurance and haven’t had time to find a local doctor and something happens. A few months ago my stomach started to have sharp pains. Before I went to the ER I went to the Urgent Care at CVS….they said nothing was wrong. I know my body something is wrong………. but I ignored it thinking it was gas or maybe stress. I ignored it for about a month and a half until I said to myself you know what….I have to do what I have to do. So I went to the ER.

If you don’t have a life-threatening problem you are last to be seen. I expected that when I went to the ER but I went to a new one outside of my county and I was seen in 3 hours flat. Fastest ER Department I have ever been to in my life and trust me I have seen the ER quite a few times between myself and kids. Here is what I have learned about emergencies over the years……

  • Many clinics can diagnose you to if you are low income or don’t have the funds. Don’t think that clinics are just for the poor they are for everyone and if you don’t have any money go to one.
  • Do not look up anything on MD or you will be diagnosing yourself to death….or something close to it. Read up on your symptoms but don’t become obsessed
  • Befriend an RN nurse 9 times out of 10 they can tell you exactly what’s wrong if you tell them your symptoms that way you won’t panic as much
  • Make the ER your last resort….A lot of people were mad at me when my son had puss coming out of his eyes 3 years ago. I asked my RN friend and she thought it was pink eye. I had never been around it before so I was scared because when I tell you globs of stuff was coming out of his eyes…..it was globs of stuff. I took him to the ER at 9pm that night. A lot of people told me that I was wrong for doing that and I could have waited until the next day. Now that I know for sure what Pink Eye consists of I won’t be so pressed to rush him to the ER and I can wait to take him the next day to his Dr. to get meds.
  • You know your body……trust it. If something is wrong something is wrong.
  • Take the time to find a local doctor. Ask around to friends and family. If you have time to binge-watch Netflix you have time to find a doctor that will make sure you are as healthy as possible
