Newsletters are the best way to get to know me

Social media is the fast route these days. No one wants to deal with a bunch of newsletters in their email box. It can get overwhelming and most people start to delete newsletters a lot around the end of the year. You know the time when folks are going into the new year with less stuff. Some may think newsletters are dead but I truly love them. It’s a great way to keep up with your favorite folks. Below I will talk about my newsletter, my open rate, my tips, and a few of my favorite newsletters that I think you should subscribe to.

What is the purpose of a newsletter

Newsletters are the perfect way to connect with your core readers. It keeps them up to date about what’s going on within your business and it’s something that isn’t assessable to everyone. It’s the best marketing tool because those that sign up to your newsletters are the ones who truly want to engage with you and they are the ones that will buy.

My newsletter is called Talk Tuesday. It comes out every other Tuesday it’s where I get real and raw about topics going on in real-time, share my latest blog posts, give away stuff, share tips that I don’t share anywhere, inspire you with some real talk that I myself go through, and act a fool. I don’t give away anything to get you to subscribe because honestly, I want you to come to me on your own without being swindled into doing so. My giveaways are just things that I want to give to my readers from time to time to say thank you.

My open rate is at 72% it has gone under once or twice but stays around there.  My open rate got high when I decluttered some folks. I started off at 672 a few years ago and now it’s down to a cool 234. Here are some tips about newsletters that I want to share in hopes that it gets yours opened up.

  • Send it in the morning. Most people look at their emails during the day and by the time the evening comes ain’t nobody going to be checking for you
  • Prune your list frequently I say every 3 months personally
  • Keep your newsletter fresh with things that others can’t find anywhere else
  • Send your newsletter consistently and at the same time. I send mine every other Tuesday at 9 a.m
  • Write good subject lines (I’ll give you a few examples of mine later in the post)
  • Ask questions in your email newsletter to form a connection
  • Segment your newsletter based on the content preferences of your readers and send them versions of the newsletter accordingly
  • Giveaway stuff from time to time. I give away small items like coffee, gift cards, free photoshoots, etc.
  • Keep your email simple

Now let’s talk subject lines. I think they are the key to getting your newsletter opened.

Crazy invitation but I want to buy you lunch – I used this one and I gave a task everyone who completed the task I bought lunch for.

I need a quick Favor please – I wanted everyone to share my new shirts. It worked because that was the highest open rate for me.

I am in love – this was kind of clickbait but y’all assumed it was a man. It was actually a new sofa lol

BTW I use Mailerlite. I was using MailChimp until they kicked me out after I talked about the current president. Yep…that’s a long story and I shared it in my email. See you missed it lol. For that subject I used…I got kicked out.

 My favorite newsletters

I am subscribed to a few. The key to me subscribing is what will I benefit from it. Will I learn something, will I get to know the person better, and it can’t be boring…at all.

Useletter – I gain something every newsletter

Side Hustle Pro – I get hers on Saturdays and it’s so good

21 Ninety – The questions of the day are my fav

Daily Carnage – If you are a marketing person…you must get this

The Hustle – You may want to stay on top of whats going on in the world quickly

Adweek – If you are a blogger you need to know a thing or two about marketing

Instagram Better – Look I am the first to admit I don’t like Instagram but it’s a necessary evil. In order to funciton I get this newsletter

I am subscribed to many more but these are the ones I learn something from the rest are just for fun and for my personal taste. So what are some newsletters that you are subscribed to?

You know, I have a basic email newsletter but after this, I’m starting to think I should use it more.
I can’t believe they kicked you out for that. Wait, why were they reading your mail? Isn’t what you write supposed to be private?

I just don’t have time to read newsletters these days yet I am subscribed to so many. If I can get a handle on both my personal anf biz inbox then maybe I can get to reading and perhaps even writing a newsletter of my own!
