The Pros and Cons of digital courses

Well shat….what y’all doing? I love Leslie Jordan and his antics. Since we are home we might as well learn right? Well not all of us can learn online some of us (I’m talking about me) need personal hands-on attention. Since I can’t really get that right now due to Rona I have to find other ways to learn and that is the beauty of digital courses. So what are the pros and cons of digital courses? Glad you asked because we need to find out!

The Pros and Cons of digital courses

First of all never ever buy a course if you don’t see some real reviews. I’m not talking about the fake reviews people pay for either. I’m talking about real live people or could be folks you know or someone you can trust. Now here is how I can tell if the course is good. Number 1 you don’t have to sell what’s already great. If someone is always selling something daily on the hour…might not be as good as you may think. That’s just me because if you are that good then you don’t need to sell so much. Yes, market your business but people will be seeking you out if your course or class is that good. Number 2 look at their testimonials if you are selling an online course on how to build your Instagram and I go to one of your clients pages and their page looks no better than mine…Imma think you lied or someone lying. No? Maybe that’s just me.  Now not everyone is like this but some are and you have to be careful how and who you spend your money with.

The best pro about digital courses is that you can learn on your time. That’s great for busy people! It also means that you have a lifetime access just in case they update that course later on which most people do. Here are some other pros

  • you can take your time with each course and learn something new each and every time you take the class
  • You can apply each part to your work as you go. Nothing has to be rushed
  • It’s online so you can take it virtually anywhere with you

Now the only con I see with digital courses is that you don’t get to speak to the person teaching the class one on one right there and then. Now I do realize that most do offer their email but it’s nothing like being in class right then and there while they are teaching. I prefer classes like that where they offer a live class and then those who missed it can come back and retake the class later. I think that is a great option for folks to have these days and I seek out classes that do that more and more these days. Also, a con is that you just don’t learn well with online courses. That is something that you will have to figure out for yourself. I have taken a few online courses and I will name some websites that I actually love but overall know what type of learner you are. I know that I am a hands-on learner and I need that one on one to ask questions. Right now I am looking for a course to go more in-depth with lightroom so if anyone knows someone who has a class that teaches that let me know. I prefer one on one and via zoom is totally fine. I need that person to let’s take a picture and walk through all the steps with me because that’s how I learn.

Now some of my favorite digital photography courses or online classes are

Katelyn James – I love this course for photography. If you need to learn how to take photos this is the class to take! I signed up for her all access class and did 2 months of it but decided not to renew. Not because she wasn’t good but because I wanted to take that money and put it to another use.

Sessions with Mario – He is the bomb! Not only do I learn how to pose seniors but I learn how to pose everyone with this course!

When it comes to blogging I have never paid for a course because frankly I think you can get enough about blogging online for free. If you must take a class look for bloggers who practice what they preach and make sure you get at least 5 references. A lot of bloggers are out here selling you a dream and they don’t tell you they have a team of people, or that they know the PR for certain companies, or that they steal info from others and put it in a pretty package so you can spend your coins…oops I’ve said too much. MOVING ON……

I love Skillshare and Creativelive for classes. I prefer Skillshare a little better because the classes are shorter and more personal to me but Creative Live does have some great classes on there. I paid for Skillshare for the year and so far I’ve dived into a few great classes! Skillshare has something for everyone. Another site that is up and coming is Bluprint. Right now they have chefs teaching you how to cook…perfect time to learn a new skill from the comfort of your home.

So dive on in and take an online digital course. Make sure you do your research and tell me in the comments what your favorite digital course is right now.

I think the con with me is… I lost focus… I find out the way for me, just socialize on the forum related to that course, and I see progress…

I love digital courses. I prefer to figure things out on my own anyway, so I don’t even miss the fact that I can’t talk to someone.

I learn better hands-on as well but I do like the convenience of digital courses. Right now I am looking to improve my photography skills so I will check out the 2 you have mentioned.

In college, I took both types of classes. I loved digital because I could work at my own pace and I didn’t have to drive anywhere!

You can always spot those fake reviews too. They usually have no real substance about the topic in question.

I stopped purchasing too many ebooks, and courses other bloggers were offering. Honestly, you can search up this stuff for free online. They will sell you a whole gamnett.

Digital course is an awesome alternate especially during this pandemic period, but I prefer a traditional one!

I’m so glad you wrote this post, because it’s good to be aware of potential drawbacks with so much focus right now on digital learning. I truly believe there’s just no replacement for face to face learning, especially when it comes to children!
