Single Moms Holiday Travel Ideas That Are Fun For the Whole Family

Single moms interested in ideal places for holiday travel with kids have much to consider. Everything you do for and with your kids takes a little extra time, energy and effort. Holiday travel is no different; it takes planning, preparation and time to ensure a fun time away for everyone. We all know that it falls on you, to keep everything afloat. Taking time to travel during the holidays with your kids is a great way to reconnect. As a single mom though, it’s important to weave in some self-care and time to yourself into your holiday travel. The holidays can be a trying time as it is, but incorporating a kid-friendly travel tradition is a great way to build your relationship and foster that connection.

Single Moms Holiday Travel Ideas That Are Fun For the Whole Family

Single Moms Cruise into Holiday Travel With Kids

For a single-parent family, finding the right balance of fun and relaxation during vacation can be a challenge. A cruise can be a great option for single moms looking for holiday travel options everyone will agree on. Cruising is a great way to incorporate an all-inclusive vacation coupled with one-on-one fun with your child. What is great about holiday cruise travel with kids as a single mom is that there are plenty of opportunities for time to yourself.

Kids will love heading to the kid’s clubs on board most cruise lines and meeting with other kids. Carnival Cruise Line offers activities for kids through age 17. From dance parties, video games and scavenger hunts to kids-only excursion opportunities, camp counselors keep them occupied. While the kids play, mom can take advantage of onboard spa services or enjoy various ‘adults-only’ areas throughout the ship.

Indulge in an All-Inclusive Resort Holiday Vacation

No one deserves more ‘me-time’ than a single mom and traveling to an all-inclusive resort with kids during the holidays offers an opportunity to do just that. In Orlando, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is a fun resort for the entire family. Not only is it within close proximity to the theme parks but it also offers countless on-site amenities. Some rooms with balconies look out over Walt Disney World with a glimpse of nightly fireworks. Because Central Florida enjoys moderate temperatures throughout most of the year, it is likely that your family may be able to take advantage of the swimming pool and waterslides. While mom relaxes poolside, kids can take advantage of the kids camp, Camp Hyatt.

Southern Holiday Charm in Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston South Carolina is a great place to visit any time of year but the holidays are particularly beautiful. For single moms looking places to travel during the holidays, Charleston should be at the top of the list. In the heart of the action of downtown Charleston is Belmond Charleston Place. With this spectacular hotel as your home base, a visit to the city during the holidays will be top-notch. Kids and adults alike will delight in the beautiful grand lobby Christmas tree display. The main draw of this hotel during the holidays is the miniature Venice Simplon-Orient Express model train that runs along the grand staircase of the hotel. Kids will love taking in the train and the miniature alpine village homes, churches, and stables.

James Island County Park Holiday Festival of Lights

After you’ve taken in the sights at the hotel, Charleston is a beautiful city to explore during the holidays. Head to the Charleston Visitors Center to take an Adventure Sightseeing tour to James Island County Park Holiday Festival of Lights. The light festival runs from early November through the end of December and features over 2 million lights through 700 displays. The tour leaves the visitors center on Meeting Street at 5 p.m. from a 25 passenger bus and returns back to the area a few hours later.  Single moms traveling with their kids will love this Lowcountry holiday tradition.

Single Mom and Kid Holiday Travel Adventure at Biltmore Estate

One of the most magical travel destinations for families during the holidays is the Biltmore Estate. Biltmore is the historic home of the Vanderbilt family and top tourist attraction in Asheville. Decorations abound in the home during the holidays; with over 100 decorated trees and an over 30 foot Christmas Tree.  Throughout the expansive grounds, visitors are greeted with thousands of lights.

Both kids and parents will love perusing the grounds. A visit to the winery is even made kid-friendly as grape juice is offered to minors while adults sample the wine selections. Spend a few nights at the inn here and immerse yourself in the castle and its surroundings. The inn offers complimentary shuttles to downtown Asheville with plenty of things to do on-site.

Myrtle Beach South Carolina

Myrtle Beach located on the northern coast of South Carolina is an ideal spot to visit during the holidays. Moms and kids alike will enjoy the variety of shopping, dining and holiday events. With countless holiday-themed musical shows and theater presentations, there’s always something to do.

Some popular holiday shows and events in Myrtle Beach include the Dicken’s Christmas Show and A Very Broadway Christmas Parade at Broadway at the Beach.

Visit an Indoor Waterpark For the Winter Holiday Season

When it’s freezing outside and the kids are going stir crazy from being inside for weeks, consider traveling to one of the many indoor water park themed hotels during the holidays. Indoor water parks generally stay within a temperate 75 to 80 degrees, so while it is snowing outside, you and your kids can be enjoying time together splashing and playing like it was the middle of Summer.

Wilderness at the Smokies in Sevierville

Enjoy the rustic feel of the accommodations surrounded by the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. Your kids will love the flatscreen televisions an movies, and moms will appreciate the kitchen suites. With enough space to spread out in, each family member will have time to themselves watching TV or lounging in front of the fireplace with a good book.

When its time to go play, the Wild WaterDome Indoor Waterpark features over 66,000 square feet of waterslides, splash pads, pools and play areas. Open year-round, it is the ideal destination for holiday winter travel.

Single moms looking for holiday travel opportunities face unique challenges. Work obligations can often require creativity in planning. Making plans for holiday travel with your kids though can be worth it. The holidays are a time to connect and make memories together, what better way than to get out of your normal routine and explore a new city with your little family.

Sounds wonderful! We totally agree with visiting a waterpark during the holidays. It makes you forget about the less than ideal weather outside!
