Oatmeal Apple Crisp

This Oatmeal Apple Crisp is the perfect dessert to make it feel like fall all year round. Tart apples combine with spicy cinnamon and the old fashioned taste of an oat streusel to make a divine apple dessert. Easy to toss together with very few steps to worry about.

Oatmeal Apple Crisp

Apple crisp is a classic dessert I’ve seen passed around since I was old enough to know what recipes were. It was always a favorite dish of mine growing up, especially the kind that used oatmeal for the top. Now that I’m older, I love recreating those recipes I always looked forward to at get-togethers.

I did some work in the kitchen and came up with this tasty Oatmeal Apple Crisp. Don’t worry, it won’t taste like you’re eating apple flavored oatmeal, like the breakfast food. Honestly, this wouldn’t be a bad recipe for a breakfast idea, although it might not be the healthiest option for breakfast. Either way, if you decided to eat it for breakfast, lunch, or dessert, you’ll love it.

Tips and Variations:

  • Leave the butter cold – Make sure the butter you use for the topping is still cold. Cutting it into small pieces might help as well. It acts as the binding ingredient and won’t bind the other ingredients in the correct way if it’s too wet.
  • Storage – I wouldn’t suggest freezing this as it doesn’t really come out looking or tasting too good when you do. The best way to store this is in an airtight container in a cool dry area or in the fridge
  • Serve it with ice cream – The best way to serve this oatmeal apple crisp is nice and hot with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on the top or side.
  • Double the recipe – If you’re making this for a bigger crowd, it’s really easy to double or even triple this recipe. If you decide to make an extra helping of it, move up to a 9×13 or 11×13 pan instead of the 9×9.
