How to spend 24 hours in Mt Pleasant SC

Y’all know I love me some Charleston, SC. Only because that’s where I’m from. Back in the day, my mom use to work in Mt. Pleasant and there is this bridge that she had to go over that literally moved. If you are from Charleston, SC you know the bridge. If I could close my eyes and cross over it I would but that wouldn’t be good lol. They have since built a new bridge which is just as scary but I manage to get across it a time or two. A few weekends ago I went home to do a small wedding over there and decided to stay over there the entire time. We literally didn’t leave to go to Charleston or anywhere else. It was the first time I spent all day in Mt. Pleasant so I thought I would give you all an itinerary of what we did and some places you need to check out. Let’s see how to spend 24 hours in Mt Pleasant, SC.

If you are out of town and have no place to stay make sure you check out the Hilton. We stayed there during our stay and it was very nice! I wanted to stay next to the venue that I was taking the pics at so I could leave my kids and party harder if I needed too. Which actually happened. It turned into an adult party later on and I was able to drop my kids back off to the hotel which was in walking distance of the venue so I knew they were right where I could get to them if something went down.

Breakfast

We ate breakfast at a spot called Pages Okra. Everyone ranted and raved how great the place was so we knew we needed to check it out. I wasn’t impressed. Sorry…but y’all know I keep it real around here. I would not recommend the spot to anyone but if you must go there make sure you get the Sweet Potato pancakes…that was about the best thing there. My son got reg pancakes and my daughter and I got the French Toast. She didn’t like it at all and didn’t even touch it.  We met up with my friend who got the sweet potato pancakes. I tried a piece of hers and it was so much better than what we had. She also got the fried green tomatoes and her face said it all. It wasn’t good. I was hoping the spot would have been the bomb since so many people said it was good but maybe they had an off night. I wouldn’t go there anymore but if you are in town try it out because your taste buds may be different than mine. After my friend and I sat for breakfast we decided to hit up the beach…in the middle of the day.

Isle of Palms

I am used to Kiawah Island and Folly Beach being from Charleston so I had never been to Isle of Palms. Yes never. Let that sink in. Isn’t it funny how you are from somewhere but never actually explored your city? Y’all do it too so don’t judge me. Anywhoo we went to the beach and parking was…I don’t even know what to say about parking. We didn’t know where to park so we ended up parking in front of a house that clearly had a sign that said don’t park but we did it anyway. Don’t follow us. Make sure you find a place to park that is for everyone to park. We like to live dangerously. We spent about an hour at the beach just soaking up the sun. I like Folly Beach better but this had a nice area to do some romantic photoshoots. The beach was packed too! If you go be prepared for a lot of people especially on the weekend.

After we said bye to my friend the kids and I decided to try out Coleman Public House

Lunch

This was good for Lunch. I wasn’t quite sure kids could come here since they sold a lot of beer but they had a kids menu so I said why not. We had some good food here and would definitely recommend this to everyone.

Boone Hall Plantation

We decided to walk off our food by going to Boone Hall. The purpose for me was to capture some great photos but I also wanted my kids to get to know a little bit about where I’m from. Boone Hall is also one of America’s oldest working farms. They have been continuously growing and producing crops for over three centuries. They are known for cotton and pecans but they have also added some other things like strawberries, peaches and other produce. If you are a photographer this is a place that you want to have in your photo collection.

Mt Pleasant Towne Centre

Every time we go out of town the kids (my son in particular) always have to go to a mall or some type of shopping. I call this mall the outside mall. I don’t know why I gave it that name I guess because it looks like a mall but has stores on the outside of it lol. Don’t mind me. Some of my favorite shops over there are Southern Living store and Carolina Gourmet. If you are a foodie you must go to Carolina Gourmet.

We decided to end the evening by eating dinner at Grace and Grit. We stayed in walking distance of the place so we ended up parking back at the hotel and then walking to dinner to get that nice breeze and to exercise from all the eating lol. We ended up eating outside and it was so beautiful. Would you like to know what I recommend? Sure why not lol. The Chicken livers were my favorite don’t knock it until you try it. If you aren’t up for the livers make sure you get the She Crab chowder. Thank me later! Now here is the twist about this place they sell gourmet grits. If you love grits as I do then you will want to make sure you visit this spot next time you are in Charleston. Try the red rice grits and the smoked gouda.

So that’s it on our trip to Mt. Pleasant, SC. I did take photos at the Copper Room which is a beauty and a great spot to be in for any party or get together. There is a park right behind it that lets you see the bridge. You will want to get your camera ready for that sunset. This is the first ever sunset I have ever caught and it didn’t disappoint. So that’s how to spend 24 hours in Mt Pleasant SC.

I was married in Charleston SC but haven’t been to Mt. Pleasant. Any restaurant with the name Okra in it has to be good to this southern girl.

We love Mt Pleasant! As a matter of fact, we’re headed there in a couple of weeks for our Summer getaway with the kids & grands. IT’s the perfect place between the beach and Charleston.

If you do Pages again you have to do the seafood omelette. Their grits and seafood dishes are way better than the pancakes. Towne Center or TC as my kids call it is the hangout spot for the teens.

You were able to pack in quite a bit of activities in just 24 hours. Mt. Pleasant looks like it has a laid back, welcoming vibe and I’d love to spend 24 hours or even a week taking it all in!

Good ol’ Cooper River Bridge. I still have flashbacks driving over the old bridge. Whew! Palmetto Park is a great place to explore, as well. I’m from Mt. Pleasant and the worst at eating out when I’m there. My Daddy’s homecoooking has me spoiled.
