How to Enjoy Summer Break as an Adult

Usually, when you think of summer break, kids come to mind. However, Summer break is just as much about the parents and adults as well. Sadly, it’s not that easy since there’s kids, jobs, and other responsibilities to deal with when you become an adult. This can oftentimes shoot summer break in the foot. If you’re wanting to enjoy your summer break this year, here are a few tips to get past all that mumbo jumbo and take it back.

How to enjoy Summer break as an adult

Go to Your Favorite Spot

Whether that spot is your favorite restaurant, pool, park, whatever, take time and go there. Nobody said you had to make a long day out of it or even miss work over it. Just take a little time one day during the summer and treat yourself to the one spot you know will bring you a bit of joy.

Do Something You’ve Always Wanted to Do

Depending on how much time you have, check out your bucket list and choose at least one thing to mark off of it this summer. Even if it’s not something over the top like backpacking through Asia, and instead is something like driving an hour away to the new pizza place you heard about, do it and mark it off. It will definitely add a kick to your step and make you feel like the summer wasn’t wasted.

Read a Book

A lot of us as adults love to read but just don’t have the time or brain power to do so on any given day. Well, summer break usually means you have more time or are expected to take some time off. So, pick up that book you’ve been eyeing and get to reading.

Don’t Do Anything

Who says you have to enjoy summer break by doing anything at all? As adults, we’re always going going going. For once, it’s nice to not be going and running around. Take a chill pill, grab a drink, and sit back with Netflix, a good book, or by the pool. Whatever floats your boat, just don’t think or plan absolutely anything while you’re doing it.

Spend Time With Someone You Never Get to See

As adults, we’re usually so busy that many of our friendships suffer. Thankfully, most adults get this and odds are, your friends have a hard time slowing down for you too. This means there are no hard feelings but, it’s really special when you can slow down and catch up. So, have a day where you have friends over to your house for a BBQ or set a time aside to make sure you catch up and shoot the breeze with someone you love and care about.

Being able to enjoy summer break can be difficult as an adult. However, enjoying summer break, in general, is going to depend on each person and what they find lifts their spirits. Not everyone enjoys reading, not everyone can sit still and do nothing for a day. So, I urge you, find one thing, as an adult, that will make your summer break one for the books and jump on it.

I love this and I’m so ready for a summer break or even a day when I can read, relax and enjoy a day off. I can’t wait until vacation!

These are wonderful ideas. I think we get so focused on taking care of the kids we forget to plan a little me time.

I love these ideas. I read TONS of books during the summer and there are times when I do nothing. My kids are old enough to entertain themselves.

Yes, yes and yes to reading more. I’ve been a little neglectful with my reading these past couple of months!

After a school year, doing nothing is simply the best. And we usually go somewhere in the summer so I’m so looking forward to that.

Some great tips. I always plan weekly sessions with a group of ladies. Sometimes we do something, sometimes we just hang out at our local coffee shop. Summer is awesome.

I think these are all wonderful ideas. I’m looking forward to reading some good books this summer. I haven’t done a whole lot of reading lately, and I love to read. I need to find some good ones this summer.

I am a real believer in self-care, and definitely relaxing and me-time are in the list, especially reading a great book. We are not able to take good care of others if we don’t take good care of ourselves.

Summer is a crazy busy time for our family. My favorite thing to do is a staycation. It also keeps travel costs down.

Doing nothing and just relaxing would be a close second.
