Having the sex talk with a 12 year old + Wed Links

The other day my son and I visited a potential school since he will be graduating the 8th grade soon and he will not be going to the school in our district. The girls saw him and started giggling and one even said omg he is so cute. He is a cutie and the girls will be after him soon. Thankfully he hasn’t had a growth spurt yet but oh when he does….

My mom didn’t have the sex talk with me. She told me at the age of 12 that if I open my legs with a man I will die oh and I will have ugly babies with rashes and chicken pox so its best to keep my legs closed. Those were her exact words she ain’t scared me at all. Well, I was a little scared but for real she never really had the talk with me. We learned a few things in school and the rest I learned from my friends but I never knew what sex really was at that age.

My understanding was that the man puts his daddy long legs in you and it hurts the first time and then after that, it feels good. This was the info that I got from my friend’s smh. I didn’t want my son to be misinformed so I decided to send him to his uncle so they can have the talk. After the talk with his uncle, I asked him what was said because I’m nosy and he said men don’t talk about what men talk about. OKKKKKK so after I saw that girls were all over him I decided to have my own talk with him. Having the sex talk with a 12-year-old isn’t my idea of fun. I have to make sure he knows certain things.

Having the sex talk with a 12 year old

Me: Do you know what sex is?

Him: Mom really not right now I don’t want to hear this

Me: You will hear this right now. Answer the question

Him: Yes it’s when a guy and a girl get together and do stuff and then I gotta strap up to make sure other stuff doesn’t happen like diseases or unwanted pregnancy.

Me: good good good. So you know that you stick your…..

Him: Mom dangit I get it geesus please stop

Me: Are you having sex?

Him: At 12? Really mom I don’t even talk to any girls can we revisit this later

Me: ok I’ll let it go

Me: So do you know where babies come from

Him: *stares at me*

Me: I just want to know if you know.

Him: Yes mom from my sperm and it does something to an egg in the girl that’s all I know.

Me: You know if you have any questions you can ask me or I can ask a man for you if you don’t want to talk to me

Him: Yes mom. Stop talking about it mom. I’m not having sex mom. No one is pregnant mom. I’m also not touching any girls mom. Are you having sex…..

Me: *quickly exits the room*

Him: nah mom are you pregnant are you touching men. Don’t run from me!

This conversation is now over. I will revist next year

SEO is something I’m learning this year. I have Yoast but do you know anything about Squirrly?

I don’t have a cleaning schedule but the kids and I seem to clean everything every day.

I loved this post about getting real in life. I’m tired of seeing the fakeness, especially on Instagram.

It’s hard for us introverts to find jobs that fit our personality.

Number 2 on this list is what I need to start doing more of.

Its black history month. I don’t need a month to celebrate me but I love these books that celebrate us

This has been soup weather!

This would make a great side dish!

Okay, I am cracking up over here! Mom exits the room, revisits next year. You are too much. But seriously you gotta do the talk sooner than later.

I feel like 12 is too old to have the sex talk. My daughter is 12 and I started having the sex talk with her when she 8. Nothing vulgar but understanding her body and the changes her body would be going through. I am working on SEO and my goal is get into Mediavine my before April. I am using Keysearch.co and I am in the facebook group Make traffic happen which has been really helpful.

That was well played by your son. He knew the quickest way out of the conversation was to make you just as uncomfortable as he was with the conversation. These kids are something else!! Just too smart

Your son is funny lol I think it’s great your having the talk with him. Good job on trying to educate him. I just saw a video on YouTube about two 14 year olds who had a baby.

Haha at when he starts asking you questions. This is such an important topic to talk to children about. I didn’t have an official talk either but what a great way to create a safe space for your son to come and talk to you about a sensitive subject.

My son acted much like yours, I kept pushing Babe to have the talk with him. Growing up my Mom never had the talk with me and it would have been helpful if she had. In private Christian School last year they had a great program to have the talk with the kids. It also pushed abstinence but it was a safe place for him to have the talk without us. I followed up with questions much as you did above.

Oddly enough I have no memories of ever having the birds and the bees talk with my parents. Perhaps it was learned at school. It’s so important to have open communication about this.

I am crying because he flipped the script on you!! These kids are smarter than we think and now they have technology so they are finding out so much fast but it’s good you personally want to talk to him about it

Our son is 8 and I think he knows the biology of sex, but not the logistics. He loves biology books so he knows a sperm and egg can make a baby. But he doesn’t know technically how they get together.
Don’t you feel relieved that he knows he can talk to you and your uncle about these things?
My parents were not this open and never let us feel like we could come to them an ask – even follow-up questions.
