Best Cookbooks by African Americans

Do you use cookbooks? I don’t normally use cookbooks since I can cook but sometimes when I want to try something different I go will pull out a cookbook and whip up something to make that’s new. Let’s dive into the best cookbooks by African Americans that you should have in your kitchen library.

Best Cookbooks by African Americans

Patti Labelle

I have cooked a lot of things in this book. My favorite is the shrimp and lobster mac and cheese. Her book is filled with some classics but they aren’t as easy to make as you may think. If you have had her pie then you will jump for joy for this cookbook.

Down Home with the Neelys

Now I know they are divorced and that’s ok I still love them! They have some good recipes in this book. I love the cabbage recipe in this book because cabbage is one of my favorite vegetables. Don’t sleep on this book it’s one of the ones I use a lot.

Sweetie Pies

So if you don’t watch this show on OWN you are missing out. This grandma right here will cuss you out and cook your meal at the same damn time. I love her and her sassy ways. This cookbook is a delight and I won’t tell you that I actually messed up one of her recipes in this book. It was the chicken…I will go ahead and admit that lol

Darius Williams

Now this book is a little off the hinges. Meaning it’s weird some of the things he puts together. The brown sugar salmon….a must have and I don’t even like Salmon.

Ayesha Curry

I love her and her husband. If they ever get divorced I will never believe in love again. Ever! This cookbook is awesome she tells you what you need to have in your kitchen as staples and I truly appreciate that.

Cookbooks by African Americans: Honorable Mentions

Chocolate for Basil…I love that they include gluten-free options

Sweet potato Soul…..for a healthier option this is a must have

In her Savannah Kitchen ….Savannah is like a cousin to my hometown Charleston,SC so this book is a must-have for me.

I don’t have a favorite cookbook yet, but I have several on the shelf. Maybe I should get into them more and see what I might be missing!

This is such a great list! I’m a collector of cookbooks and I need to add some of these to my collection. I recently came across Marcus Williams on Instagram. Some of his combinations are unusual like you said but his recipes are always so good! Thanks for sharing these.

I love Patti’s cookbook. I have used her mac n cheese recipe and have adapted and perfected. My sister did some food styling for the Neely’s. Great list.

I need ALL of these because I don’t cook! Lol I’m horrible at it. I was shocked to see Gloria Neely because she looks totally different on the show she’s currently on. I’ll ask my mother if she has any of these. I’d purchase Ayesha’s myself!
