Best breakfast spots to eat at in Charleston.

If you’re looking for some of the best breakfast spots in Charleston, you’ve come to the right place. Charleston, South Carolina has been named Best City in the World for nine years in a row by Conde Nast Traveler. There are obviously several reasons why the Holy City is so well-loved the world over, but we can’t help but think that part of that is due to its eclectic food scene. Sure, there are countless delicious spots for an early dinner before an evening walk on The Battery, but breakfast in the Lowcountry is truly where it’s at. Here are some of the best breakfast spots you’ll want to be sure to visit on your next trip to Charleston.

Best Breakfast Spots in Charleston

Breizah Pan Crepes

Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, Breizah Pan Crepes is where you want to go for both sweet and savory French crepes, omelets and croissants. Grab breakfast to go and head to Marion Square for a relaxing morning of people-watching.

Toast! Downtown

One of four locations in the area, Toast! Downtown is a fun spot for a filling and delicious breakfast. Whether you opt for the Eggs Meeting Street or their fried green tomatoes, you truly can’t go wrong.

Harborview Restaurant and Lounge

For some of the best views in Charleston, visit the Harborview Restaurant and Lounge. Located inside the uniquely designed Holiday Inn, local breakfast favorites like the malted-mini waffles and the slider trio will help get your day off to a hearty start.

Three Little Birds Cafe

If you’re beach-bound, head to Three Little Birds Cafe on your way to Folly Beach. This quaint little spot is the perfect way to start your day. You can also grab a delicious lunch to take with you for an oceanside picnic.

Hannibal’s Kitchen

Good food without the fluff. You won’t find fancy napkins or over-the-top decor at Hannibals, but what you will discover is some of the best Southern cooking in Charleston. From breakfast shrimp and grits to corned beef hash, Hannibal’s is soul food at its finest. If you’re looking for more black-owned restaurants in the Lowcountry, this list from Charleston City Paper is a great place to start.

Charleston Area Off-the-Beaten Path Breakfast Spots

Those looking for tried-and-true breakfast spots in Charleston that the locals love and some tourists have yet to discover are in for a treat. Charleston is chock full of hidden gems.

Park Cafe

Located on Rutledge Avenue near MUSC and Hampton Park, Park Cafe is a cheerful little spot well-loved by the locals. Whether you opt for a vegetarian breakfast or hearty, Southern staple, you’re sure to want to come back again!

Sunrise Bistro

Located on Johns Island, Sunrise Bistro is definitely off-the-beaten-path if you’re staying in downtown Charleston, but it’s worth a visit. If you’re visiting The Angel Oak Tree or the Caw Caw Interpretive Center on your next visit to the Lowcountry, stop in for a delicious breakfast in an unassuming location. It’s also quick and affordable too if you’re on a budget or traveling with kids.

Variety Store Restaurant

Does it get any better than fried green tomato shrimp and grits? Variety Store Restaurant boasts an extensive breakfast menu. Be sure to plan accordingly though, because they’re only open from Wednesday through Sunday, so don’t miss out on our Charleston visit.

Charleston’s Best Brunch Spots to Visit

There’s just something about a leisurely Lowcountry brunch. Maybe it’s the warm Summer days. It could also be the scent of honeysuckle in the air and Spanish moss blowing in the wind, but Charleston lends itself to leisurely mornings and satisfying Southern meals. There are plenty of excellent places to spend a relaxing brunch with friends in Chucktown, here are a few of our favorites:

The Junction Kitchen & Provisions

Come for the tomato pie and stay for, well pretty much everything else. The Junction Kitchen & Provisions is located in North Charleston and serves brunch on Sundays.

Graze of Mount Pleasant

Head across the bridge for brunch at Graze. The adult caramel macchiato alone is worth the drive. From french toast to pulled pork and eggs, Graze is well worth a visit on a late Sunday morning.

5 Loaves Cafe

Some things just go together, like chicken and waffles or biscuits and gravy. You’ll find both of these Southern staples and more at 5 Loaves Cafe in downtown Charleston. If you’re looking for a special Sunday brunch or breakfast spot in Charleston, put this one on your itinerary ASAP.

Charleston is well-known as the city to visit if you’re a foodie. The options are endless, vast, and wide. In fact, visitors flock to the area in early spring for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival where local and celebrity chefs team up in competitions, food and wine stations, and a variety of demonstrations. Each year, the Holy City also hosts a restaurant week.  You truly cannot go wrong, whenever you decide to visit the Lowcountry.
