Winter Vacation at Wild Dunes Resort in SC

Listen to the post here

These kids get a lot of days out of school. I just want to start off with that. We didn’t get any of these extra vacations and I feel bad for working parents. It’s a good thing for some but bad for others especially those who have little kids. That’s not what we are here to talk about though we are here to talk about how my family and I took a mini winter vacation at the Wild Dunes Resort in SC. I want to talk about diversity, amenities, and overall experience at the resort. This was not sponsored but even if it was this is my real opinion. Let’s get into our vacation!

Winter Vacation at Wild Dunes Resort in SC

When I was little my mom used to work at Kiawah Island which is another resort in SC. She cleaned the villas and she would bring me with her every so often when she didn’t have a babysitter. I remember asking my mom why we couldn’t stay there. Her response was that we will never ever be able to afford anything like this. That stuck with me because I am the type of person who loves to prove people wrong. Oh, I will stay here one day (or anywhere similar) and be able to afford it. I normally don’t pick resorts like this because it lacks diversity. We saw maybe 7 black people who were visiting in total and the rest were workers. My friend told me that I shouldn’t stay there because it’s not friendly to African Americans but I wanted my kids to know that we will hold our head up high and stay wherever the hell we please and pay for it without it being given for free or putting it on a credit card.

With that being said we did get a few stares but overall no racist comments we could feel it though but I tend to ignore it because that’s what I’ve done most of my life…ignore it. No one came at us or treated us differently that I could see. Just the stares and looks as to be expected when we walk through like we belong somewhere lol.

Overall I would give the resort a 8 out of 10. Here is why…while it was beautiful and located right on the beach it needed more food options. The pizza place they had was decent but we needed a breakfast option, somewhere for lunch, and a good coffee spot. My friend had coffee from somewhere and she said it was disgusting so maybe a neat coffee shop or pastry cafe would be awesome. If they had some better food options I would actually give it a 10 out of 10.

It was clean so that was a plus. When we got there they had a little hiccup with our room but they did resolve it with 0 issues. The best part about where we stayed was the balcony of course and the spacious 2 bedrooms with the pull out couch. We were able to fit 8 in there comfortably with no problems at all. The walk to the beach was perfect and the beach was empty it felt like you were on your own private beach.

Our favorite part about the resort was the fire they had at night. You could sit and roast smores over it and you can meet new people while sitting. We met a few guests and were able to strike up some great conversations and even laugh a bit. There was no noise, no loud music, and no parties so that was also a good thing. We were able to sleep well at night and wake up refreshed the next day.

Will I go back? Yep and I would recommend it to others. I would just tell them don’t expect a lot of food options right now but it may get better. Here is more info….

  • There is no breakfast included so you will have to find breakfast somewhere else
  • pool was open but outside. I don’t swim in the winter but there were people in the hot tob and pool the entire time we were there
  • they have a small store as soon as you walk in that has water and other things you will need but my advice is to bring your snacks and drinks with you or go to the nearest Target to get some stuff
  • The resort has security you can’t even get on without a ticket or your name at the gate. They let you in and out each time
  • Valet parking is included with your stay which was great
  • The resort does have bikes, tennis, fitness center, and golf carts to drive we didn’t rent any this go round but we may do it the next time
  • Where we stayed had a kitchen that came with cups, forks, a microwave, a dishwaser, and a washing machine and dryer
  • We stayed in one that was 2 kings but they also have the option for a king and two twins…there is no queen sized beds except for the pull out couch. They also have a 3 bedroom one but that was booked up so I suggest you book early if you want more space

Ok let’s talk cost. I will be honest this wasn’t cheap. I spent way over 1k to stay here but I did it for a few reasons. I wanted my kids to see how hard work pays off and what money can buy. I also wanted to enjoy access to the beach because that’s what I came for. I didn’t want to have to drive to the beach which is normally what I do when I come to Charleston. While a lot of people spend money on designer clothes or purses I spend my money on designer vacations and this was it.

Any questions? Leave them in the comment section. Have you ever been to Mt. Pleasant, SC? Would you stay here based on what I said above?

We are planning a Charleston trip this year, so adding this to my list based off of this post! The resort looks beautiful and right up our alley with the quality factor and amenities.

Glad you enjoyed your stay there! Based on your review, I would definitely not stay there. I dined at a “clubhouse” on Kiawah Island and had an awful experience at the “clubhouse”. The stares made me uncomfortable and definitely showed me that they didn’t want us in their space (unless you were serving them). Although my visit there didn’t cost me anything, I would not return. No amount of money or free perk is worth me feeling unwelcomed and supporting their bottom line.
