Virtual school updates

I feel like I haven’t talked to you all in a minute. I know that those who get my Talk Tuesday newsletter get all the tea but I just wanted to come on here and talk some back to school updates so far. My kids have been going to school virtually for 3 weeks now and it has been a roller coaster of a ride. I am not here to give it to you with sugar I want to keep it real because I’m really kita. That’s the only way I know how to be. So let us talk virtual school updates and what I’m learning about my kids and myself.

Virtual School updates

The first two weeks I was on instastories giving you all the tea. Here is what went down in case you missed it

  • My daughter took her braids out during class
  • She also fell asleep not once not twice but three times in various different classes
  • My son goes to the fridge more than he learns
  • Bathroom breaks are getting on my nerve ain’t that much shat in you
  • I am tired of being the breakfast lady and the lunch lady
  • He loves his guitar class the most
  • I don’t like his math teacher she rubs me the wrong way with her tone (I’m listening to her daily)
  • Emails are working my nerve and my kids refuse to check them
  • My kids didn’t know how to print. Please make sure your kids know basic things about the computer. I didn’t realize this until after the 50th million time of me printing and I kept telling my kids to print not realizing they didn’t know how to print.

Timing is a big issue for us. In school, the bell rings the kids know to go to their next class at home it’s a little harder. I have set a timer for them to keep up because I’m at work at the same time so it’s been hard.

My kids didn’t take school seriously for the first two weeks. They felt that since they were at home they could do whatever they want because they are home. I had to break it down to them that just because they are home that doesn’t mean anything. Treat home like you treat school and carry the same rules over.

Virtual school updates

A little background on my kid’s school. My kids go to a private school here in Atlanta. I choose this option because I didn’t like the schools in my district. I knew that I needed to find someplace for my kids to go before Rona even hit. I was undecided about what to do up until 2 weeks before school started. Their school offers virtual and in-classroom sessions. I can’t do both so I had to pick one or the other but every 6 weeks you can choose which one you want to do. I decided to start off virtual let them work their kinks out first then move them into school the 2nd 6 weeks. I feel comfortable letting them go to school because they have precautions in place. No more than 8 kids per classroom and masks on all day. My kids are older so I don’t have an issue with them going to school.

Here is the issue…my kids don’t want to go back. At all! They are begging me to stay home. I wasn’t prepared for that at all. They are going back because I want my kids around others so they can learn how to work with others and be around people but I will let them stay home with me the rest of this year. For the kids that don’t want to go back this will be an adjustment for them if they do.

I have learned that I can never be a teacher and that I’m not smarter than a 3rd grader. I also learned that I am not organized which means that my son isn’t organized which is a recipe for disaster. I need tips on how to be organized a little better. Send them my way!

Overall I think the first 3 weeks went horrible and we weren’t prepared but we kept at it and now we are in a good rhythm. How is school going for you? What have you found to be the hardest about virtual (if you are in virtual school)?

My kids are opposite: they can’t wait to go back. They aren’t into this virtual stuff. My son’s college is virtual until the spring, and my daughter hopefully will get to go back this year.

I know I’m not a teacher either and my patience has been tested many times!

At first, my daughter doesn’t want it, she is more preferred to have face to face classes rather than the virtual classes. But thanks goodness she is now enjoying it after two weeks.

Good luck to you and your family. I can’t imagine having to “supervise ” home schooling. I know I couldn’t do it.

Virtual school is a mess so far lol. My learner is just in kindergarten. Honestly the kids are doing fantastic. It’s all the technical glitches that are awful!

I know it has to be so hard. We are lucky and are kids are able to go back to school. I am like you, not the most organized when it comes to school work and not wanting to be the lunch lady 🙂 Hang in there! You are doing a great job!

This is the 3rd week of my son’s remote learning, and I’m happy to report that so far, so good. Hope it’ll continue that way. 🙂

Virtual learning is difficult, but you seem to manage to keep the humor in it, which helps a lot.

We have been in school about 3 weeks now. It’s going great virtually but mine are both in high school which is more self directed

Things will go better! I know that it’s not easy to organize yourself but it’s something that you’ll learn!

We are all having a tough time for Virtual School and it’s really frustrating not to be able to make it smooth. But we will be able to make it. We just need to adjust.

My niece started the virtual class just this week. It’s a little tough at first but it’s getting better.
