Technology Tips for Remote Learning in the New School Year

I’m telling you now, you’re going to need these technology tips for remote learning in the new school year. So many things have changed where school is concerned with this Covid-19 pandemic. A lot of us were thrown into a technology nightmare when it all started. With the new school year, there are definitely going to be more remote learning aspects. Whether that’s done by schools or because you decided to homeschool, you’re going to need to be prepared either way.

Technology Tips for Remote Learning in the New School Year

Research, Plan, Learn

Whether you have chosen to homeschool or your childrens’ teachers have decided to utilize online resources, you as the parent need to research. Learning a new program and environment for learning can be a difficult transition for children. This can stunt the learning progress and prohibit children from moving forward for a period of time. Be sure to do your own research and planning by learning the program in and out. This will allow you to help your child and reduce a large amount of strange.

Get Familiar

If you’re not familiar with the basics of a computer and the tools children may be required to use, get familiar. Check out the writing programs, calculator, paint, etc. Just start clicking through your start menu and learning the basics of what your computer has to offer as default options. This may alert you to something your child might need when plans start rolling out.

Update Your Computer

Using a tablet or cellphone can oftentimes add an extra bit of frustration and limitation when it comes to remote learning. Your best option is a laptop or desktop computer. If you have an outdated computer and have the means to update it, I would highly recommend this. There’s nothing worse, even for adults, to have a computer that lags, shuts off, erases work, etc. Don’t add stress to an already changing setup for your child.

Get a great headphone set

This is great if you want to work while at home with your kids so you won’t hear what the teachers are saying and you can still have a semi quiet home. A lot of teachers are going to be sending over audio lessons and various things to help with learning and your kids will need to be able to access that.

Try Cellphone Routes

If you have control over the learning because you decided to homeschool, try to pick a learning option that’s mobile-friendly. Not every aspect has to be mobile-friendly. However, giving the kids a chance to utilize their phone in their learning seems to give them a connection to familiarity. It can be more comfortable, giving them a break from all the changes.

Ask for Help

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There’s usually a pretty easy answer to problems you might run into when it comes to technology. Whether it’s a program giving you grief or the device itself, there’s always plenty of people out there willing to help with answers. Instead of getting frustrated and getting kids stressed, ask for help early on with the problem.

Whatever the new school year brings for you and your children, be sure you’re comfortable and they’re comfortable. You can have all the technology tips for remote learning in the school year you need, but unless it’s the right choice for you and your child, there will always be a struggle.

These ideas make so much sense because I know the remote learning will be important for the next few years. I think a computer upgrade and a good headset is something we need to get.

A little bit goes a long way! Being a homeschooler growing up, especially when online learning was a new thing, was difficult and it helped when my mom was ahead of things for me.
