My daily routine

I saw this post on my favorite blog Cup of Jo and thought hmmm what do I do daily? What do I do every day no matter what? I had to think about this y’all because I realize that I don’t do much as a daily ritual and I need to make sure I stick to something. It helps keep me on track so I wanted to write down my daily routines and I hope that you realize what yours are too.

My daily routine

When I think about daily rituals my mind goes to weekly ones too because I like to do things differently each day but still keep kind of the same routine. My mom had a semi routine where she would only go out shopping twice a week. Thursdays was groceries and Saturdays around 1pm with her having to be back home before dark. Those were the only two days a week that she would go out besides work and church on Sundays. I also remember her always praying daily. That was always a ritual you must say your prayers at night.

Making that bed daily was also a ritual that had to be done daily. I hated making the bed it was pointless when I was younger but as I got older I realized why she had me do it. It was to make sure that I stuck to something daily because if you don’t stick to anything you get into the habit of being lazy. You have to stick to something daily to create a sense of responsibility and that is why I think she had me make the bed. Plus once it became a daily thing I knew that I had to do it so that would eventually be how I started my day on a routine. These days I do not make my bed much at all but when I do it does feel good to have a nice made up bed at the end of the day.

So what are my rituals? Let’s start with weekly ones. On Sundays, I take the time to go over my calendar. I use artful agenda (use my code if you want to try them out it’s RK44458) and I make sure I do my top 3 for the week for each day. My top 3 is my way of holding me accountable in areas in my life that I don’t pay attention to. I pick the 3 categories of home, myself, and my business and each day I do one thing in each and I write that out on my calendar. I also set my alarms for the week because I’m old. Also on Sundays, I have a non crank policy where I do not crank my car unless it involves money or I must really love you. Those are my Sunday rituals that I do every single Sunday.

Weekdays are often different because I have so much going on between my kids activities, me taking classes for my business, photoshoots, sending off orders, etc. I do something different daily which keeps me on my toes but if I were to say what were my rituals that I do daily it would be.

  1. I make sure I spend 30 minutes doing something for myself daily. That can include taking a walk, taking myself out for a date, meeting a friend to get a good laugh in, reading a book, a massage, napping, etc. I do something that I want to do that’s fun just for me once a day.
  2. I put on my favorite lotion and perfume at night. Nothing loud but something that is sweet I also oil with lavender to help me sleep that is a ritual that I do not miss once I come out of the shower. I know most people lotion but I take it a step further to really sit in my closet and pick out something to make me smell good and ready for the night
  3. Also with the above, I put my towel in a towel warmer which is a ritual that is bougie but oh so good.
  4. I eat breakfast now or something in the morning. So for the last few years I was trying to do the diet thing where I only eat between 12pm and 8pm but I was not losing weight and I was not seeing any other useful results. This year a new routine is to eat something in the morning. A smoothie, a bagel, fruit, a pop tart, cereal, etc. I must eat something every morning and it doesn’t have to be a full breakfast it can be something like a snack but I must do it.
  5. Another routine that I do is to read a chapter of a book every night before bed. No tv on (which I can’t sleep with the tv on) just my kindle and a good book. Right now I’m reading self help books for business with a mixture of autobiographies in there but I have to read a chapter a night. This can also include reading my favorite bloggers too. Just read something because reading is how I learn.
  6. I also check my emails every evening around 8pm to clear them out for the night. I am not the type of person to have hundreds of emails and I like to make sure I answer folks or at least categorize my emails daily so they don’t overwhelm me. This is a routine that I stick to daily.

Coffee or tea is sometimes things I do but not during the Summer much just during the winter I will do a tea before bed something that calms me to help me sleep. Other than that there is no other routine that I stick to that is stickable (is that a word?) I make sure that I do my best when it comes to sticking to something that betters myself and those around me.

What are your routines? Do you exercise daily? Eat a certain breakfast every morning? Have waffles every Saturday?
