I’m bougie when it comes to my food because what we put into our bodies matter. They matter so much that I drive almost an hour every other week to my local farmers market just to get fresh produce, meat, and eggs. I learned about Market Wagon from a fellow chef that I love. I was like this is a nice concept but I know it’s not in my area because I live in the country and we don’t even have uber eats. So I decided to go to the website and see if they had an email that I could use to grovel at their feet to bring something like this in our area. When I went into the search on the website I was shocked that it did come to our area. I ordered my first order right then. I was able to ask Dan a few questions about Market Wagon and then at the end, I will tell you what I really think about the company. (this is not sponsored and even if it was my opinions are always real)

How do you stand out from a local farmers market where people can go and shop for themselves?
We really don’t see ourselves as a competitor to farmers markets. There is always going to be a need and a place for physical farmers markets because there is a dedicated group of customers who love the experience of going to one on a Saturday morning. It’s a destination. But physical farmers markets have two big problems.
First, speaking as a father of two kids and I know you can relate especially as a single mother of two, most people don’t have the time to dedicate to travel to a physical location once a week and pick up those specialty locally-sourced items. We’ve got soccer games and drama practice and other fun weekend plans. Second, while farmers markets have exploded on the scene in the last decade or two, in a number of cities and locations, they are full and there’s a massive backlog of local farmers who want to participate but can’t. Perhaps there’s no more space. Perhaps they sell items which are in direct competition to an existing vendor so they’re not allowed to join.
That’s where Market Wagon comes in. We believe there is a huge segment of the population who would love to shop local food but are just too busy to get that done. They like shopping online and they find it extremely convenient for it to be delivered directly to their door once a week.
How do we as customers know we are getting the freshest items delivered to us?
The beauty of the Market Wagon platform is that it is far more than an eCommerce site. We have created a community where customers can interact and follow farmers and artisans so they can understand where their food is coming from and how it is grown or produced. You can connect directly with the farmers, food producers, chefs, and artisans themselves, just like you would if you were traveling to a physical farmers market. You can ask them questions like how their chickens are raised or what types of fertilization methods they use on their heirloom tomatoes. The farmers themselves are the ones who will respond. We think that type of information and trust in your food and where it’s coming from is absolutely imperative.
I noticed when I bought my items that there weren’t many fruits or veggies available. Do you sell only when they are in season?
There is definitely a lot of variety on our platform, certainly from city to city and even week to week. There is definitely seasonal variation, for example, when Georgia peaches are in season. In many locations, we have hydroponic farmers who grow vegetables indoors so there is fresh produce available even during the winter months. I’m not sure if you’re in the Atlanta East or Atlanta West market. But let’s say you’re in Atlanta East, which is a Tuesday delivery day. All orders are due by 1 a.m. Monday morning so that farmers can wake up on Monday, see exactly what orders they have, and in most cases, will be harvesting that produce on Monday for delivery on Tuesday. There is absolutely no fresher way to make that happen unless you have a garden at your house!

My thoughts….

I loved this concept. Think Instacart meets the farmer market. I wish they had more produce because I still have to go to the actual farmers market for strawberries and blackberries for my smoothie but other than that this is a great company to get fresh eggs, meat, and other items from your local farmers. Being able to support local farmers is a win because they work hard. I grew up on a farm during the Summers with my grandma. We had to work hard planting, milking cows, and I even drove a tractor or two at a young age. I know the value of fresh and Market Wagon has it. Please make sure to check it out and see if they are in your neighborhood and if so order today!

In my orders I usually get brown eggs, salad (freshest salad I’ve seen in a while), my own ranch seasoning for me to make my own ranch dressing, bacon (gotta have the bacon), and local honey which is good for allergies. If you were to order from here what would be the first thing you order? Let me know in the comments below.
