How to use LinkedIn for Dummies: 5 Best Practices

Amplify your business profile

Optimize your profile with the header image, clear and precise headlines and the right keywords. Your image must be visually appealing and hi-res. Your company goals, mission statement and vision should be clearly stated and visible to all who visit its page, much like your own personal LinkedIn profile page.

Position yourself as an expert in your field

Position yourself and your organization as an expert in your industry. It’s good practice to write original content, share knowledge and insights, case studies and best practices that will make you a topic and industry expert many will seek out and want to learn from.

Make meaningful connections

It’s not enough to just connect on LinkedIn. You must also check in with your connections from time to time. Engage with them by liking, sharing and commenting on their posts. You can also send InMail messages to check in on their current projects, endeavors and offer any assistance that you can provide. This is also a great opportunity to ask fellow connections questions pertaining to their own company cultures, fields and industries they may be experts in. You never know what you can learn from them.

Discover new businesses and industry experts

LinkedIn makes it easy to search companies, content, people, titles and much more, even filtering them by cities, states, and countries to better target your search. This is a great opportunity to stay in the know of businesses, high-profile individuals, business and industry trends.

Join relevant groups and follow pages

LinkedIn groups are great for meeting and connecting with like-minded individuals, share company news and content, and make connections.

Publish content

As previously mentioned, writing great content can position your organization as a thought-leader. By consistently producing content, you and your organization will be better able to heighten its engagement and perhaps even go viral. LinkedIn has a pretty high engagement rate when the audience find your content valuable.

Run ads

LinkedIn ads can be expensive, but if you have a budget, it’s a great tool for zoning in on your target audience in your niche to bring awareness to your business’ products and services.
