How to make work at home life easier

Do you work from home? Geez….if you aren’t use to it it will be hard. I am here to give you the real deal about working from home. Working from home can be hard and getting out of the house is even harder. There are days where I want to be in my home but not have it feel like I am working from home and there are days I need to get out of the house and see something other than my home. Here is how to get out of the house while you work from home and ways to make your work at home life much easier.

How to make work at home life easier

I have been an at-home mother for 6 years. I only recently started working about 2 years ago from the house. Since I have been at home I have gotten fat and I eat junk all day but that doesn’t have to be you.

Get up in the mornings and stretch

When you get your kids up in the mornings take that time to do something other than laze around. You can even take a walk around your neighborhood in the early morning hours. Do something that will get your body ready to go in the mornings so you can start your day off right. I do a combination of mediatiating, walking and some  stretching in the mornings. I don’t do a full exercise routine but I do get up and get the blood flowing early.

Get Dressed

This has been a problem for me because I actually like being in my sleeping clothes all day long even if I’m dropping the kids off in the mornings. It’s comfy….*cries* but I know that in order to feel good I have to look good so I put on sweats instead. I know people say get dressed but at least I am not in sleeping clothes. I brush my teeth, comb my hair and that’s about all you are going to get from me.

Tip: Do get dressed and take your laptop with you to a coffee place at least twice a week. it will make you feel whole and brand new and then you can stay in your PJ’s for the rest of the week. At least you know you accomplished getting out of the house dressed twice that week. What more do people want?

Get out of the house and Do something

There are always fun activities going on in your neighborhood or town so make sure you keep track of these to get you out of the house to meet up with friends. Another idea is take some of your home chores and go somewhere with them. If you have endless laundry to do but it’s a gorgeous day out, why not try a local laundry mat that can bring you the sunshine and fresh air plus getting this chore finished. Athens Commerce Laundromat offers you 24 hours a day laundry  7 days a week, including major holidays! Not only do they have washer and dryers to help your laundry needs but cable TV, free WiFi, central heating and air conditioning, snacks, sodas and soap vending machines, change machines, public bathrooms and a comfortable sitting area with tables to relax while your laundry is washed. One service that they offer if you don’t have time is a wash, fold and dry service. IF you drop your laundry off, they can turn around fresh, clean and pressed clothing in less then 24 hours for an average load of laundry. You can also drop it off and pick it up the same day as well if you’d like to schedule it.  You can’t go wrong with this company, especially if you want to get out of the house and need a safe, reliable and quality place to get laundry done while you enjoy the da

Have a plan of action

The mornings are when I work on It’s Really Kita so I take that time to plan out my posts, schedule out my social media, create graphics, answer emails, etc. Middays are nap times (I must get in about an hr nap daily or I won’t be able to function) Afternoons are kids and family time. I put down my computer (not my phone 🙂 ) for a few hours and concentrate on them. After the kids go to bed at 8 (really it’s 9 by the time they finish with the water and bathroom shenanigans) I work on Kitaography stuff. That is my plan daily and I don’t get off my plan even on the weekends. I stick to my schedule which helps me know what I will be doing every day so I don’t feel like I am just sitting and doing a bunch of stuff without seeing the fruit of my labor

Tip: Use a list app (I use Todoist), Use your google calendar to schedule out appointments, Use a dry erase calendar for national holidays and social media hashtags so you know what you need to focus on within your social media posts. Use sticky notes to write down quick notes and put it on your computer so you can see it. Throw away when done with the task.

Working from home isn’t easy. As a mother, I am still expected to do things.

  • Telecommuting can be lonely….start a blog and talk to people on twitter and Facebook this will help with isolation during the day because I have never seen so many people who actually go to work be on social media *side eye*
  • Keep a water bottle on your desk and drink only that while working. Since I sit all day and don’t move I take 15 minutes per day and walk up and down my hallway. Don’t have a hallway walk around your bed …just walk for 15 minutes each day and drink water.
  • Have a dedicated office space. I am thankful we have a 4 bedroom so I was able to turn one of the rooms into my actual office. I feel productive and I don’t do anything from my bed
  • Take a one hour break during the day to do something other than work. I take one in the mornings…around 10:30 every morning I shut down my computer and break. This involves a nap, reading a book, watching a show, or something not work-related
  • Hire out for others to do things so that takes some stuff off of you. Just because you work from home doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself. You still work no matter if you get paid or not. Being a mother in itself is hard work but thats a post for another day

If you are looking to make work at home life easier… consider doing something fun like taking an online cooking class!
