A quick getaway to Hilton Head Island

It seems like every time the kids are out of school time goes by fast. When they are in school it goes by slow. Does anyone else feel that way? I have been stressed and down in the dumps the past couple of weeks. I don’t know what it is but I felt like I needed a change of scenery for a few days. The kids and I didn’t have any real plans for Spring Break I knew I wanted to go somewhere and within driving distance so I picked Hilton Head Island. I haven’t been to Hilton Head in years and the kids have never been so I thought this would be the perfect way for the kids to see another part of my home state. I wanted to give a play by play of what we did on our quick getaway to Hilton Head Island along with a short video!

A quick getaway to Hilton Head Island

We stayed at the Westin. I picked the Westin because I’m bougie (I ain’t gonna lie) when it comes to where I lay my head at night. It was very expensive but I wanted to be on the beach so I kicked the money out. I think because it was Spring break the pricing of it went up. I don’t know, I do know that for 2 nights it cost me more than $400. They have other budget-friendly places to stay in the area so you don’t have to stay there.

We arrived on Monday and the first thing we did was go to the beach! BTW the drive from Atlanta was about 4 hours. It was pretty cold and the beach was totally empty.

After we left the beach area we went back to our hotel but first, we stopped and played around on the Peloton which I have been dreaming of having for a while. My ass can’t afford this shat so moving on……..

Hilton Head Island

We got back to the room and decided to eat at the Skull Creek Boathouse on the water. Food was ok. I loved the calamari but the food was just ok.

After we ate there we decided to go exploring and went to get ice cream at Kilwins Hilton Head which was pretty good!

We got back to the room and chilled out for the rest of the evening. Here are some notes on our first day

  • Hilton Head reminds me of Mt. Pleasant, SC an area near my hometown of Charleston, SC
  • People were in the pool….it was 50 something degrees…I don’t know if the pool was heated but my gawd
  • Hotel is very quiet so it was a peaceful first night
  • My kids felt uncomfortable being the only African Americans around. Good, I wanted them to see that we can go places other than the norm. The place wasn’t friendly for African Americans and someone did think that we were the help twice.

We started off the morning eating Breakfast at Another Broken Egg. The food was excellent! We then headed over to the outlets which were a 15 min drive from where we stayed. My daughter bought some stuff from Claires and I bought a souvenir but I didn’t spend a lot money. *pats myself on the back*

I wanted to get a massage but didn’t want to spend the money so we came back and did a mini photoshoot in front of the hotel and on the beach. I know what you are saying but you stayed at a bougie hotel you didn’t want to get a massage. Nope…I’m weird. When it comes to hotels and food I’m bougie everything else I’m frugal as they come lol.

After the beach, we decided to go find something to eat. I didn’t feel like another sit-down restaurant so I went to Instagram and hashtagged some stuff and found a spot called Java Burrito. The food looked amazing so I was like this is what I’m eating. Of course, the kids don’t like burritos so they opted for a burger.

My food was good! This is basically a Chipotle that taste way better and they give more meat lol

My kids said the burgers were good but Five Guys is still better smdh.

Thoughts on the second day

  • My kids didn’t want to come because they find it boring to just sit around but I actually had a nice relaxing time. I didn’t feel like anything fun I wanted relaxation and peace.
  • We could have rented bikes, went on a boat ride and venture to a museum but we decided to stay put and relax.
  • It was freezing…I wish I packed my heater (jk…no not really)
  • Beaufort, SC is a nice short drive from Hilton Head and I will have more on that area in my summer small travel series.
  • No mall…just an outlet
  • If you wanted you could have stayed in Savannah and then drive to Hilton for the day

Hotel was the biggest expense of the trip. I literally only did about $100 in food for that Monday, Tuesday, and Wed. Gas was good I only filled up twice from Monday to Wed.

That was about it for our quick getaway. I enjoyed 2 good books and watched loads of tv. Last year we went to Savannah for our Spring break and I’m seeing a pattern of beaches for Spring break. Check out my quick video of highlights from the trip

What did you do for Spring Break? This post was not sponsored btw just in case you were wondering.

My daughter and her husband love Hilton Head. They visit often. I haven’t been in a few years so I need to plan another trip. Here in SC, we’ve had some weird spring weather (it snowed last week) so I can completely understand the cold part.

How fun! I’ve always heard great things about HIlton Head. I hope my family can make it there one day. I bet we’d love it since we enjoy being by the water.

We just stayed home for Spring Break! I was too lazy to go anywhere, ha.

Looks like a great way to get away to the beach and the food so good. I have never been and it is still a little cold but a beach trip like this is in order.

Love that you chose having a mini photoshoot over a massage. The good thing is that it is free and you spent a fun time with family.

This is on my list to take my kids as they have never been and my poor youngest baby has never been to the beach. Glad y’all had a great time.
