It's Photography

Let’s shoot together in 2021

Every year I do a project 365. This is where you take a photo per day for the entire year and post it on insta, your own photocollection, or via a group that you joined. I usually take the photos at the end of the year and make a photo book of it. I’ve been doing the project 365 every other year since 2014 and I will say that it has been so beautiful to see photos of what I took and how my kids grew up overnight. It has also been good to see some memories that I may have forgotten because I can’t remember what I did each day of a particular year but the photos help me remember. Now here is a truthful moment. I don’t always take photos within that day. If I don’t have a photo that day or I didn’t get a chance to take something I will use something that I took beforehand. In other words don’t put pressure on yourself to do a photo a day. Put up the photo that you feel for the day whether you took it that day or you didn’t. For 2021 I want to do a project 52 something that I have never done.

Doing a project 52 in 2021

No pressure to do this but I think a project 52 is easier than a Project 365. It’s less pictures but it makes the same impact and you have from Monday to Sunday to put up one picture that speaks to you for the week. I like prompts to help me keep my pictures in order so I want to share some prompts below. I have teamed up with Erica to bring you a project 52 that will be remembered years from now. I will put the prompt for each week below for the first 26 weeks of the year and she will do the last half of the year so that we each can have input on how to capture memories for the year. Some prompts are going to be easy and some prompts will be a little challenging but I want you to have fun and interpret these photos how you want to. If you are ready let’s go! I will share each prompt on my Instagram page weekly starting on Monday and giving you a reminder during the week. Remember you have from Monday to Sunday to turn in your photo. I hope you join Erica and I.

First week starts the first full week of Jan. I’m OCD so I need a full week I can’t start in the middle of the week so the last week of this year may be off but we will roll with it.

Week 1: Jan 4th – 10th – You the first week. Y’all know how I hate pictures but I want you to show a picture of who you are without showing a picture of you.

Week 2: Jan 11th –  17th – Morning person or Night person. Post a photo interpreting which one you are. I am a night owl so I would do something at night. (if you are taking photos at night find a room that is lit or use a flash if you have one this would be cute to use your kids string light and create something cute)

Week 3: Jan 18th – 24th – It’s MLK week and Inauguration day 2021. Show that in whatever content you want. You watching the Inauguration, you wearing your favorite shirt (I have mine) what MLK means to you.

Week 4: Jan 25th – 31st – Street stalking. Whats your favorite street in your neck of the woods. What’s on that street that makes it special. Did you grow up there, found love there, it reminds you of home. Be a street stalker and take what you see around you.

Week 5: Feb 1st – 7th – Supporting a black owned business. Buy from one this week (especially since it’s black history month) and take a picture of what you buy. Tag them and let them know how much you loved it. Show some love this week to a small business owner.

Week 6: Feb 8th – 14th – It’s Love Week. Money can’t buy love so what’s something that money can’t buy that you love. This one might be hard but if you have a loved one show them in the picture. If you don’t show how you love yourself without spending money.

Week 7: Feb 15th – 21st – No love. Show something you don’t like. Could be a task, could be a food, something in your life etc. Share your story and a picture to go along with it.

Week 8: Feb 22nd –  28th – WIDRN – In other words What I’m doing right now. Take a picture at the moment and post it. Then tag someone and ask them what they are doing right now and have them share a photo on their feed or story.

Week 9: March 1st – 7th – Teens. Find a teenager or a pre-teen (age 11 and beyond) Take a picture of them and share a story from their point of view. It has to be in their words and it can be anything going on with them. If they don’t like pictures take them from the back, side, or even their feet. Something of them their comfortable sharing.

Week 10: March 8th – 14th – March Madness. Something that represents sports. Let’s stick to basketball. Show something that represents basketballs it can even be something orange or you watching a team or wear your favorite team.

Week 11: March 15th – 21st – Green. St. Patty’s Day is all about green so show something green in your photo.

Week 12: March 22nd – 28th – How low can you go? Get down on the ground and take a photo. What do you see differently when you get on another level?

Week 13: March 29th – April 4th – Spring into action. Take an action shot something that is moving. A movie or reel will work for this. Make a mini movie of something.

Week 14: April 5th – April 11th – Give someone else the camera. If you don’t have someone else put your camera on a tripod and see what it can pick up on the timer. This is the perfect time to get your instahubs or kids involved. Let them take a photo and you post it.

Week 15: April 12th – 18th – Health is wealth. Show us how you are staying healthy. Eating anything fab? Exercising? Even walking up the stairs is healthy take a photo of that.

Week 16: April 19th – 25th – The earth. It was earth day this week. Find the elements and use them in your photos. Earth, Wind, Fire, Rain, Spirit. Interpret an element in your own words.

Week 17: April 26th – May 2nd – Book collection. Not just one book but a lot of them. You reading from your bed with a book in hand will work. A library shot…priceless.

Week 18: May 3rd – May 9th –  Mother. Share your mother or share you as a mother or share a mother figure.

Week 19: May 10th – 16th – A good drink. Something to cool you off. Share a recipe if you have one.

Week 20: May 17th – May 23 – I’m rich bish. Show what you would be doing right now if you were rich. Have fun with this.

Week 21: May 24th – 30th – Current Events. Whats going on in the world right now that you want to talk about. Take a picture of how it makes you feel or an element that tells the story of whats going on.

Week 22: May 31st – June 6th – Memorial. Share something that you remember about your past or something you want to remember for your future.

Week 23: June 7th – June 13th – Summer means water lots of it. Share a pic of water in your own way. Could be you drinking from a hose, washing your hands, or going swimming.

Week 24: June 14th – 20th – A good man. Share a man in your life. Can be your son. If you share your son write a letter to him so when he does become a man he can see it.

Week 25: June 21st – 27th – Summer. Whatever Summer means to you.

Week 26: June 28th – July 4th – Music. Share your top favorite song and interpret it in a photo.

Can’t wait to do all of this with you. I will share inspiration on my Instagram weekly some from me some from others. If you are joining in use #lifeography52

This is such a great challenge to take up! It’s an excellent way to keep ourselves motivated to keep writing, and it makes it easier to prevent writer’s block.

I am so excited about this! I have a terrible time trying to think of things to write about. I get the worst writer’s block ever. This is going to be a big help for me.

This is a good list of topics for the year. I might have to do some of these on my website.

I love this. I may need to start doing this too. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with content for the week, so this is nice.

This is such a great idea! I really like the idea of taking a photo ( or two – and saving them to make beautiful photo albums for my children.

I don’t think I could handle 365 photos, but I can definitely handle 52. This is a great idea!

Love this idea. Bloggers or vloggers will benefit from this. Especially if you’re currently having a writer’s block. Thanks for sharing.

Love this kind of project. I think a 356 or 52 project can be a lot of fun if you do it with the whole family! I wish you good luck with your project 52!
