Being a good sport

I am back joining in on a 10 on the 10th challenge. I missed last month but back to join in for August. The 10th on the 10th is where there is a theme and you join in and write your version of the post in your own words using the prompt. This month’s prompt is Sports. I’m joining is this Mutton to do the prompt. Check her take on the prompt here. Let’s talking being a good sport and my favorite sport.

The Audio version is here!

Being a good sport

Sports was never really my thing growing up but I played basketball in middle school. I only joined to impress a boy which didn’t do me much good but it gave me a chance to be on a team and learn how to work or beat others depending on how you look at it. I played basketball through high school where I was point on the girl’s basketball team. I had a scholarship to Hampton University but declined it because honestly, I didn’t really love basketball all that much. The questions are below and I would love it if you joined in.

  1. I was good at sports. I think I was better at being a team player than the actual sport but I did recieve a few trophies so I must have been kinda decent lol.
  2. My favorite 3 sports to watch on tv is gymnastics (always loved Dominque Dawes), Basketball, and believe it or not boxing. Boxing surprised me too because I like that better than football.
  3. I regularly watch basketball live but that’s about it. I will always catch up via a news report later if I need to for my favorite teams but I don’t always get to watch live
  4. I’ll answer honestly I don’t even watch the Olympics anymore. Last time I watched the Olympics I was probably in my 20s which was back in the early 2000s.
  5. I enjoy walking and playing a little basketball with my son from time to time. He loves basketball just as much as I do and I love getting that one on one time with him.
  6. I have to go back to Dominque she was one of the first African Americans that I saw doing jumps and stuff. Never knew much about gymnastics until she came on the scene and I said if I had a daughter I wanted my daughter to be just like her. My daughter kinda does…she is in dance which is a sport.
  7. The most memorable sporting occasion I can remember is when Kobe Bryant (my favorite basketball player) scored against the nets in game 3 I think of the finals in 2002. That game was so good and he dominated.
  8. No one in my family is outstanding at sports unless you want to call the army a sport. My family is a military family for the most part so they never did sports. I didn’t even watch sports growing up it wasn’t until around high school that I actually watched it and was interested.
  9. 3 sports I try to avoid on tv are golf (boring) football (I only know touchdown), and Tennis. Love Serena (who is retiring) but the back and forth was not my thing.
  10. The sports personality that I love in 2022 was a hard question but I’m going to go with Serena. I love what she stood for and how she paved the way for other black female tennis players to love the sport. I hated the sport but I loved her and her grit. She paved the way for others to come behind her and I love that.

So there you go that’s all about me and sports lol. My daughter dances and my son well he is into music so he plays the guitar no sports for him. Being a good sport is more than just how you play the game it’s your attitude about anything you do in life. I always say life is a game…the way to win is to make sure you know your weaknesses and your strengths.

What’s your favorite sport? Who do you admire in the sports world today?

Loved reading your answers; you must have been pretty good if you were offered a scholarship! LOL. I also think it’s funny that you began playing to impress a boy… that sounds like something I would have done too. I’m pretty sure I only joined cheerleading for the cute outfits and because we got to leave class early to go to away games.

Oh, I really enjoyed your answers to the questions! Dominique Dawes is so amazing! And I only really know “touchdown” in football, too! Haha.

Thanks for joining us for 10 on the 10th. Great answers!! Love that you and your son connect over hoops. I had never thought about it until I wrote my post, but I bet my mama was behind our getting a basketball hoop when we were kid. She played basketball. – and at a time when girls really didn’t participate in athletics much. My dad was the high school quarterback. And there’s me…a klutz with 2 left feet who majored in art.

Dominique and Serena are both inspirational women and athletes. Good choices.

Basketball was always on TV at my house when my kids were growing up. My younger son (now age 46) played on school basketball teams from grade 6 through 12. (and he was really good at it!) — Now, he’s coaching his boys (ages 8 & 11) in basketball, and they’re playing on teams in Brooklyn, NY. So – the love of basketball is handed down to the next generation. I enjoyed reading your post about sports.
