Back to School Survival Kit for Moms

With this pandemic, I feel like a back to school survival kit for moms is at its most vital. Whether you have decided to do the full virtual option, the half and half option, or send your kids back to school, this year is definitely going to be different. Hopefully, this back to school survival kit for moms will help you through that hump when back to school hits.

Back to School Survival Kit for Moms

Of course, as parents, we know we can never be fully prepared to tackle back to school. However, most of us have enough experience that we know what we might need that will lessen the blow. Sometimes, it helps to be reminded of some of those items, because it can be easy to forget. I mean, we’ve all been out of the school loop for longer than usual. I’m feeling a little rusty and wouldn’t mind some reminders of things I might need. So, here’s a list I think you might find helpful for your back to school survival kit for moms.

  • Wet wipes – Whether virtual or in-person, wet wipes are never a bad idea with children. Messes, runny noses, drips, and falls – wet wipes cover them all.
  • Band-Aids – These are good for patching holes, calming owies, or even as a placebo for a fussy kiddo.
  • Cash – Being busy means we can forget countless things. Don’t let cash or a mode of payment be one of them. Add some cash to your kit as a backup emergency stash.
  • Snacks – This is for mama and kids. Have a hungry kid? Quiet them down temporarily with a snack from the kit! Are you starving because you haven’t had time for breakfast or lunch? Grab a snack from the kit!
  • Encouraging daily notes – They sell these in rip off calendar styles. A tough day for mama can be turned around with a touch of encouragement, even from just a small book. You’ll be surprised how much it helps.
  • Sticky notes – These are for countless uses. You’ll find out once everything kicks up, especially if your child is virtual.
  • Writing utensil – Anything to write with is beyond handy.
  • Your own calculator – All the kids get their own, but we all know mom has to step in and help sometimes. Having your own calculator will help you, help them.
  • Your own notebook – For helping troubleshoot math problems, writing your child a note for school, etc.
  • Deodorant – We all know why this is needed. A backup is never a bad idea.
  • Hair ties – For you or your daughter.
  • Dry shampoo – Again, this needs no explanation…you know.
  • Pads/Tampons – We all know how that dreaded monthly time can sneak up on you and a daughter if you have one. Having options as a backup is a lifesaver.
  • Folder of important paperwork – Is your kid virtual or do you have info to remember for important dates at school, etc? Keep a print out of things like virtual logins, security question answers, important dates, etc.
  • A handy tote – Make sure you have this all packed into a handy tote you can just grab whenever you need it.
  • Wine – Because why not
  • Extra clothes in the car – Sometimes you have to run somewhere after school (if your child is going to school) and their clothes don’t look suitable
  • A meal planning app or someone to prepare preplanned meals – This is a lifesaver for some nights of the week. Cooking takes up so much time. Imagine the time you will save if you don’t have to cook.
  • A mom friend – I love my single friends but they have no idea….none

These are just a few ideas, as we all know that list can keep going, endlessly. You can pick and choose from the list that suits your lifestyle. Overall, this should get you started on your back to school survival kit for moms.

I really like this list. It can be super easy to miss something important that the kids will need for school, and it’s usually something small.

I admit with everything going on in this world I am happy I have a college student. I am not sure I could handle sending my kid to school right now. That said I need a mom survival kit with lots of chocolate involved.

Yes, meal planning is so important during back to school season! When they get home and need help and have assignments, a lengthy dinner prep just isn’t practical.

Even as someone who isn’t a mom, many of these items would be handy to keep around. Busy times call for lots of last minutes needs.

I just love this list. What would we do without dry shampoo? There are just some days where there isn’t time.
