Look I’m bougie when it comes to where I stay when I travel. I will not leave my house that I pay for and go somewhere that isn’t worth my coins. I can’t do it! I work hard for my money and where I stay should reflect that. When picking a hotel I look for a few things… what’s near it, noise level, room views, reviews (read the bad ones first), and if someone has stayed there before. I like real reviews, not the made-up ones that people will give you because they are paid. Paid or not I give you the truth about where I stay so without further ado let’s take a look at my stay at the JW Marriott Plant Riverside hotel.
My stay at the JW Marriott Plant Riverside Hotel
How do the rooms compare to other hotels in the area?
I’ve stayed at 3 other hotels in Savannah before. The rooms at this hotel were a bit smaller than other hotels in the area. When I travel I like a little wiggle room and we were in tight quarters but the rooms were still nice.
Why did you pick this hotel?
I wanted to be where the action was. I love this area of Savannah and there was only one way to experience it. I also loved the look of the hotel it was different from others and I like to be different. When you walk in the atmosphere reminds you of a rock museum.
How are the rooms and which room did you pick?
The rooms were cozy and decorated beautifully. I picked a two queen size room along the river. I wanted to see the water when I woke up and drank my coffee. It’s a great way to start your day.
How was the noise level?
Surprisingly it was quiet. Almost too quiet especially since we were on the floor with the bar.
Was it worth the price tag and did you have a discount?
Nope paid full price no blogging deals here. I thought it was especially since all the restaurants were right there.
How was the service?
Excellent. Every night I called for new towels and got them within 10 min. Now we will talk about some valet-specific stuff later but overall I give the service a 9 out of 10.
Would you book again?
Yes, I would and that’s a lot coming from me.
Are they kid-friendly?
Yes, I saw a lot of families and a lot of couples so there was a good mixture of different people.
How was parking?
I don’t recommend parking yourself the walk is far. You will need to put money aside for valet. It was 45 a night. Now I usually don’t do valet but this was the city and you have to pay to park on the streets and in certain areas anyway you might as well pay for valet service. Now here is the kicker…there are 2 parts to the hotel. Before you valet make sure you know which section of the hotel you are staying in. I did valet with the first building and we stayed in the second building. It was a hassle to get the car down to me and I had to walk twice to the other building before they switched it. The valet company is the same company but I think they just had certain people doing each section of the hotel.
Overall it was a beautiful hotel. It was an old power plant but they turned it into something that I haven’t seen before. I will say that all the workers had on masks but no one else did. This was the first time since Covid that I went somewhere and no visitors were wearing masks. I was a little shocked at that but stayed far away from people as much as I could.
There are plenty of food spots in walking distance of the hotel so you don’t have to worry about where to eat. My favorite place was District Seafood and Savannah Tequilla co. Also if you love African Art check out Baobab Lounge my gawd the art in there reminds you of Africa and all of its beauty.
Here are some other things about the hotel that I want to mention
- there is no pool they do have an area where you can go through some water
- The gym was small but empty and very clean
- The beach is a 30-minute drive from the hotel
- Hole in the wall burger company was like a ghost it appeared one night and gone the next but it was a good ass burger. Put them on the list of places to eat
- Go to the bar alone it’s worth it to talk to new people
- There is a Starbucks right behind the second building thank me later
- If you go in the Summer get you some bug spray the mosquitos tore me up
- They are still building up so if you go during 2021 be prepared for construction
- it is picture perfect in there so get your camera out immediately
Did a small video so you can see some of the stuff firsthand. (I’m not a video person so my son did most of it)

June 24, 2021 at 6:28 amSadly, a lot of people are not wearing masks. It’s one of the reasons why I haven’t made any traveling plans for this summer (just camping). However, I’ll definitely keep this beautiful hotel in mind if I ever decide to visit Savannah.

June 26, 2021 at 6:37 amI appreciate your honest review of the hotel. We prefer to stay in hotels with large rooms, but I would take a smaller room in a hotel with impeccable service.
