3 Quick Recipes Using Popcorn + My top 10 favorite movies of all time

If you’re looking to spice up your popcorn life, try one of these 3 quick recipes using popcorn! Choose from cheese or caramel popcorn, which has been beloved classics for countless years. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try the decadent Oreo option instead!

3 Quick Recipes Using Popcorn

If you’re anything like me, you love your snack foods. Popcorn has always been one of my main go-tos when it comes to my top snacking options. That’s because it’s so easy to customize and it seriously doesn’t disappoint ever. I have yet to try a flavor of popcorn I didn’t absolutely fall in love with. Of course, I haven’t gone too crazy with my flavor options, but I definitely have explored some random flavors.

I’ve always bought my popcorn from the store and that includes the flavored stuff as well. So, I decided to come up with my own recipes for making my favorite flavors at home. These 3 quick recipes using popcorn will have you hooked and you’ll be making it more often than you would like. I say this from experience.

Tips and Variations

Storage – I would not suggest storing these popcorn recipes in the fridge or freezer as they will not come back out tasting great. The best storage option is a sealed plastic badge in a cool, dry place.

Reheating – I wouldn’t suggest trying to reheat this popcorn as it could make it sticky or stale if you do.

Use homemade popcorn – Instead of using bagged popcorn, use popcorn kernels and pop your own. This has better flavor, in my opinion. You’ll need about 6 cups of popcorn to make up 2 bags of microwave popcorn.

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 3-5 Minutes

Serves – 4

Ingredients:

Caramel Corn:

  • 2 Bags Microwave Popcorn
  • ½ Cup Butter
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar, packed
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ Teaspoon Baking Soda

Cheese Popcorn:

  • 2 Bags Extra Butter Microwave Popcorn
  • ¼ Cup Kraft Cheese Powder

Oreo Popcorn:

  • 2 Bags Microwave Popcorn
  • 1 ½ Cups Crushed Oreo Cookies
  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Milk

Directions:

  1. For the caramel corn: Melt the butter in a saucepan before adding the brown sugar and stirring until dissolved. After a few minutes of simmering on medium hit, add the vanilla and stir. Bring to about 340 degrees (takes about 5 minutes of simmering) then add the baking soda. Pop popcorn and place it in a large bowl. Pour the caramel mixture of the top and toss to coat. Spread on a baking sheet to dry.
  2. For the cheese popcorn: Pop the popcorn and immediately add it to a bowl and sprinkle the cheese powder over the top. Toss to thoroughly coat. You can try using the cheese powder found in the packets of mac and cheese boxes as well.
  3. For the Oreo popcorn: Pop the popcorn and spread it on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper. In a bowl, combine the milk and powdered sugar and mix thoroughly. Drizzle the sugar mixture evenly over the top of the popcorn (double the mixture if you like it super coated). Immediately sprinkle the crushed Oreos over the top and let sit to dry for a few minutes.

Now that you have the popcorn recipes you have to watch some movies with your popcorn. Here are my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

  1. The Lion King – The first and original one. Here are some lessons from it that I’ve learned.
  2. The Greatest Showman – Look that soundtrack is so good. Even my 14 year old loves the soundtrack
  3. All of the Fast and Furious saga – I’m not picking just one but if I had to I would say fast 6 and 7 are the best. They do need to end at 10 though.
  4. Love and Basketball – A classic. Also, I use to play basketball so this movie speaks to me
  5. Sister Act – Whoopi was good in these. My kids watched it for the first time and liked it.
  6. Beauty and the Beast – My favorite Disney Movie (along with Lion king) if I was to get married again I want that theme song and some yellow not all yellow lol.
  7. The Matrix – Aren’t they coming out with another one?
  8. To Kill a Mockingbird – They need to remake this for modern times
  9. Twilight – Look don’t judge me. I was a huge twilight fan when it came out and even got the hubs hooked.
  10. Remember the Titans – Great movie and I had no idea it was Disney.
