My son had a field trip a few weeks ago to Stone Mountain. It’s a huge mountain here in GA that people who are all about that fitness life climb. I refuse! So my son and his friends tried to get me to climb here is how the conversation went
Dman: Mom, you came on our field trip are you climbing the mountain?
Me: Hell to the no
His Friend: Come on Ms. Kita you can do this. If we can do this you can do this
Me: let me repeat myself Captial H to the E…to the double hockey sticks NO
His Friend: You are going to climb this mountain you can do this come on
So to appease them I walked up with them for about 5 min. They kept stopping to listen to the tour guide talk about the mountain it was a learning field trip
Me: Oh wow look at the time. Well it was nice walking with you all but I gotta go
Dman: Come on mom, please
Me: I love you but not enough to climb this mountain for you.
His Friend: You disappoint me I look up to you Ms. Kita
Me: You should look up to God he will never disappoint you
I started to walk away being proud of my decision not to walk up that mountain. As I was coming down the mountain I ran into another parent and we sat and watched the pretty leaves fall from the trees
The kids came back down and my son was in pain.
BTW I went on the field trip because I do like to show up for my kids. I may not participate but I do show up. I want my kids to know at least I am there.
Dman: Mom, Mom….my legs hurt, my feet hurt, I am in so much pain. Why do my thighs hurt?
Me: *falls out laughing* you see why I didn’t climb that mountain but I am proud of you because you did it.
He was aching for a min after that trip. I almost felt bad for him….almost

I love a good documentary! My favorite from this list was The Imposter

November 29, 2017 at 1:02 pmI probably wouldn’t have climbed that mountain either. We know what’s best for us and it’s up to us to make good decisions for ourselves.

November 29, 2017 at 1:04 pmI love your story – “You should look up to God, he will never disappoint you.” I climbed Stone Mountain for the first time when I was about 10. I remember it so well. I had been in a bicycle accident a few days before that day and something ripped off one of my toenails. I climbed it anyway. I must have been big and bad back then because I don’t really like heights now and doubt I would do it again. I do have the fondest memories of visiting Stone Mountain over and over when I was growing up in GA.

November 29, 2017 at 1:23 pmI’d have tried to climb the mountain, but I would have been in pain, that’s for sure. My daughter would have liked your God comment. She believes but my son who has autism and is very much into science would have been like, “Well, prove that to me.”

November 29, 2017 at 2:06 pmOnce again I’m cracking up at your blog post. I love that you always show up for your kids. Like you said I show up but I might not participate. I’ve seen so many IG post about Stone Mountain and I can see why your son was in pain after climbing it.

November 29, 2017 at 4:39 pmYou totally crack me up. I can definitely say that I am definitely not in shape to climb up the mountain. It’s funny that your son came down in pain and probably wondered why.

November 29, 2017 at 7:20 pmThat is such a cute story. I wouldn’t try to climb a mountain these days. I am a bit scared of heights but my kids would love to get to the top of the mountain!

November 29, 2017 at 8:56 pmMy kids are always wanting me to do something ridiculous! I remember that field trip when I was in middle school. Would I do it again? Nope. Nope. Nope.

November 29, 2017 at 9:00 pmI would have said I’d stay at the bottom and watch the stuff, or be down there in case anyone had to come down because they were scared.

November 30, 2017 at 5:53 am“You should look up to God, he’ll never disappoint you” – that was pretty funny! It sounds like it would’ve been a great adventure though.

November 30, 2017 at 6:50 amYou should really try climbing a mountain. It’s not easy but I’m sure you’d learn a lot from it and enjoy the experience.

November 30, 2017 at 9:19 amI love this post! When my kids were young, I also showed up for their field trip. I offered whatever help the teachers would need to make the trip a success. However, if I were in your situation, I would not climb that mountain. Oh no no no. The best I can do is to encourage, motivate and be my child’s very own cheering squad.

November 30, 2017 at 1:23 pmLOL, hey, at least you were there for them! This reminds me of when my mom took me horseback riding for my birthday. She wouldn’t actually get on the horse (well, she tried, for a second, then got freaked out and got off), but she was there and that’s what mattered.

November 30, 2017 at 1:55 pmYou crack me up! Sometimes my boys will ONLY do something if I do it too, which is annoying yet empowering all at once. Glad you have this fun memory to look back upon.

November 30, 2017 at 7:26 pmI so love your links…Anywho, I would love to go on a hike one day. I might be visiting Georgia for Christmas so I might have to check this out. I’m sure I would be in some pain even though I workout but I would love to at least give it a try. Thanks for sharing.
Kisa
November 30, 2017 at 10:30 pmI would probably have died part way up the mountain. I’m not in good enough shape right now to attempt it. Lemme get in shape first, and then maybe. 🙂 I’m sure he’ll appreciate you showing up eventually, even if you didn’t climb.

December 1, 2017 at 12:31 amI love when you recap conversations with the kids. Sheer hilarity! You showed up and that is what matters. I would have climbed the mountain simply because I like to hike. The cold overnight field trips are no dice.

December 1, 2017 at 5:36 amLOL this was a great recap! I’m sure your son appreciated you being there!

December 2, 2017 at 12:44 amMy response would’ve been the same. I climbed it when I was a kid and I definitely know I couldn’t do it now. I would love to go back and try though.

December 3, 2017 at 3:54 amAs many times as I’ve been to GA, I never knew you could actually climb that mountain. I’d like to try it one day. But I’m sure I’d be aching just like Dman.

December 3, 2017 at 1:49 pmI haven’t climbed Stone Mountain in years. Might be time for a trip. Especially since I’m down the street from it. I’m proud that your son made the climb. You cracked me up with your response to them asking.

December 6, 2017 at 4:32 amYou are a trip LOL!! Exactly my kind of conversation on field trips 😀 My only job would be to have the Epsom salt ready for mine when he takes his bath at night.

December 6, 2017 at 12:42 pm🤣 I feel ya girl, I wouldn’t want to climb up that mountain either.
My girls have with their dad, and Lauren complained about being in pain too.
