8 of the best towns to visit on the East coast for Halloween

It’s that time of the year again…Halloween and what’s scary is that when we blink it will be Christmas. I am not a huge Halloween fanatic because I don’t like being scared but for those who love Halloween, I wanted to dive into some places that are drivable if you want to take the plunge on being somewhere scary this Halloween. Here are some small towns to visit on the east coast for Halloween.

Small towns to visit on the east coast for Halloween

Sleepy Hollow, New York

Have you all seen the movie? I have and it’s scary. So to have a town that is named after it is even scarier. I am sure they have a lot to do there around Halloween Time. My suggestion is to go and do the Cemetary tour. Scared yet? I wouldn’t even walk in a regular cemetery on a good day and they want me to take a tour. I bet you any money it’s a nighttime tour. If you loved the move you will definitely love the town.

Salem, Massachusetts

Do you like witches? If you do then this is the place for you. I love that this town gives you that witchy feeling. A friend of mine went last year and had a blast. Make sure you check out the Haunted Happenings so you can be aware of all there is to do in this town.

Chatham, Massachusetts

I would personally go here for the beach but I have heard around October they have some of the best events. They have something called the pumpkin people in the park. I believe it’s when you dress up the pumpkins to look like people…a few of them may even be real. I am sure they have pumpkin everything and they probably do it well. Pumpkin latte, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin water…hey it might be a thing.

Princeton, New Jersey

Well, we talked about witches but we haven’t talked about ghosts. I have heard that Princeton has the best haunted houses on the East coast. Look I don’t know if I can walk through a haunted house I am sometimes scared when I hear noises in my own house. If you are up for the challenge though check them out here.

Erie, Pennsylvania

This entire town knows how to party every Halloween. The entire town takes the month of October very seriously it’s almost kind of eery….see what I did there lol. This town has an eerie horror film festival every year and you can’t miss it. I think this is cool that you get to see some of the best horror films being displayed in one setting.

St. Augustine, Florida

This is the nations oldest city so I know they have a few things up their sleeves for Halloween. They even have a beer fest going on. This town is probably where the real ghosts and goblins live since it’s so old. I wouldn’t do anything in this town during Halloween without a group of people.

Georgetown, SC

I’m from Charleston, SC and I know a thing or two about this town. I know that things aren’t what they seem…trust me I’ve been there. Don’t believe me? Watch this video.

This is one town that I am familiar with and ghost or no ghost I won’t go back. I went one time and it scared the living daylights out of me. If you aren’t as scary as I am take a tour and then tell me about it when you are done.

Atlanta, GA

I saved this for last. As many of you know I live in Atlanta and this is the one place I haven’t been. I wanted to go a few years ago but when I saw that they make you sign a waiver….issa no. My poor heart can’t take it but if yours can and you are in Atlanta in October make sure you go and visit Netherworld. I’m sure you aren’t scared……

There you have it a few places to visit on the East coast this Halloween season. I have visited 4 of the places on the list. Of course, you know Atlanta and Georgetown. Can you guess the other 2 cities? If you are in Atlanta make sure you go to Six Flags they have a great fright fest going on every year that the kids and I go to.

I’m not really big on Halloween either because well, the scare factor. I’m a total wuss when it comes to scary stuff, but for those into it, like my niece – it’s her favorite holiday – this is an awesome list of towns to visit for Halloween.

Halloween has never held a fascination for us but now our neighbors love Halloween and visiting spooky haunted houses. I will show them this if they ever decided to go out to the east coast during halloween season.

I wish we was close to these places as it would be fun to take a overnight trip and visit them. Although I am in Texas and will need to find places close to here to visit.

I can’t believe that we are even talking about Halloween. What happened to the rest of the year?! These years are going way too fast and I do not like it. I do love all of the places you mentioned here. Halloween is such a fun time.

With my kids grown we don’t do Halloween, but I’m still very much a fan of seeing how everyone else decorates. Some great cities for just that!

I absolutely love Halloween. It will be my son’s first this year, so I’ve given grandma the privilege of picking his costume.

I live in New Jersey but have never been to Princeton specifically for Halloween purposes. We have some great “scary” walk-thru attractions nearby as well as Six Flags.

Looks like a great itinerary for a coastal haunted tour…for the adventurous that is! I’ll bet one of those last remaining cities is Charleston, SC

Nice and interesting round up of towns for Halloween. Sleepy Hollow sounds the most intriguing of all. Having seen the movie, my interest is piqued and would love to experience the cemetery tour!

Halloween is not my jam because I don’t like creep things, but growing up I have fond members of collecting candy at the mall and see all the people dressed up. I love that you shared places to visit because I am all about going places and experiencing something new.

I don’t do Halloween to funny, but the exorcist house is here in DC. I don’t think I’ve ever even driven past it. Fright fest for me at Six Flags is also a no. LOL!
