The best online classes for kids

As soon as school is over my son hurries through his chores and goes straight to his video games. Due to Rona there aren’t many things I’m comfortable putting him in at this time. So what am I supposed to do? Well, my friend mentioned Outschool to me and I immediately went to their website to check them out. I was impressed with all the classes that they have and I loved that my son can do something with his brain besides video games. My daughter has dance and now he can have something to do also. This is the perfect option to give your kids something to do after school. Here is why Outschool has the best online classes for kids.

Online classes for kids

I was able to ask outschool some questions that I thought you all as readers would like to know. I always like to know what I’m spending my money on before I spend my money and that is what I’m here for. So here are a few questions!

How did you all come up with this idea for kids?

Outschool was started as a way for kids to connect with passionate teachers and other students through live, online classes. Originally aimed at helping the homeschool population, Outschool quickly realized that parents across the world are seeking learning opportunities for their kids that are outside of the traditional school curriculum. From live baking and cooking classes, to coding and architecture, Outschool offers over 50K live classes for kids all taught by passionate, independent teachers.

Do you have classes for kids with learning disabilities?

This may help answer your question: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/1503329-learning-with-special-needs-at-outschool

To answer your question quickly, yes – Outschool has a variety of offerings for kids with learning disabilities like Autism, dyslexia, hearing disabilities, and more. Here are some sample classes – but the easiest way to search is by using keywords (example: Autism) in the search bar. It’s important to note that teachers are independent and they can create essentially any class they want! We’d love to have teachers create additional classes for learning disabilities!

How do you pick out the best classes and what should you look for?

As Dabney mentioned below, it’s a good idea to start with teachers who have 5 star ratings on Outschool. That way you’re assured the teacher is experienced and one of the best. While a VAST majority of Outschool teachers have 5 stars, you can narrow down your search by topic (ie: Dance, ballet, cooking, algebra, Preschool, Minecraft, etc.) and you can browse the many class titles available. Once you find a teacher or topic that really excited your child, you can keep tabs on that teacher and get alerts when new classes are added by them. Most teachers and classes are reviewed by parents, so read those when deciding whether to sign your child up.

What if there is an issue where a child can’t get to a class do you have recordings for what’s missed?

Since Outschool thrives on participation and small groups, it’s important that all scheduled learners attend each class they signed up for. However, if something comes up – you can cancel your class within 24 hours of class beginning for a full refund. Some (but not all) teachers also make class recordings available via the Outschool classroom to families enrolled in class. Enrolling in class does not guarantee access to class recordings – they are shared at each teacher’s discretion. Before viewing a class recording on Outschool, families must agree not to share it with anyone. It’s important to us that everyone has a positive experience learning with Outschool. If any issues arise, you should first try to resolve them directly with the teacher. If you’re not satisfied with the resolution offered by the teacher, let us know and we’ll find a way to make it right.

Bonus question. What are the most popular classes by age group?

You can sort by popularity in your searches! Here’s a search for all ages/all subjects (you can limit further by selected an age range, topic, etc.): https://outschool.com/online-classes?age&order=popular&startAfter=ThisWeek&format=Live%20online#usPF4s9Rst

Once you start navigating Outschool, it gets easier to come across relevant classes.

So one of the classes my son seems to be interested in is the Crime scene classes (should I be worried about this *side eye) he wants to learn how to solve crimes and I think he would be great at that. He seems to be a very good detective around the house when it comes to finding out who did what when it comes to placing the blame on someone other than himself. I am also interested in him learning some cooking classes so that he can help me out around the home. As a single parent, I hate to put the burden on my kids to cook but I need all the help that I can get. If you are looking for an after school option for your kids to learn something new then Outschool is for them. Let me know what classes you are looking at.

It’s nice to check out all the online schools. My kids are both doing online right now. We didn’t get to choose since we wanted to do it through the school though.

It hasn’t been easy trying to find a balance between distance learning and everday life around here. Glad they have these options available for kids based on their needs.

It’s a period of time because of this pandemic situation that my kid avoid meeting other kids. That’s way these online classes could be a great solution to interact with teaches and other kids!
