Happy Birthday to me.
My mom always got me one gift for my birthday and I didn’t understand why until I got about 8 or 9 years old and realized that my birthday fell a few days before Christmas. My mom would always get me jewelry every birthday. All real 10k gold or 14 k gold earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces, even an ankle bracelet once. I still have most of my jewelry from all of my birthdays with a few of them missing. I looked forward to my jewelry every year but it stopped when she passed away in 2007 2 days after my birthday. When I was going through her stuff I found her old wedding ring and she had left a note saying sorry I missed getting you something this birthday…here is my wedding ring the only piece of valuable jewelry I own. I cried for days y’all because she didn’t forget.
Now that I understand how my birthday falls I do things a little different for me. What if your birthday falls on an actual holiday though like Christmas day, Halloween (my SIL), Easter (my daughter’s birthday fell on Easter one year), 4th of July. Here is how to celebrate your birthday if it falls on a holiday.
Here is how to celebrate your birthday if it falls on a holiday
Celebrate with extraness on that day. That’s it…that’s the secret lol.
Ok here are some more tips
- Dedicate another day for that day. If it falls on Christmas make Christmas eve your special day
- Take half the day for you the other half for the holiday
- Make sure you tell your fam to give you separate presents particularly not wrapped in the holiday gift wrap. (if it falls on Halloween don’t give me ghost wrapping paper unless you like that)
- Remind people that it’s your day. Nothing wrong with making the day about you. Don’t go overboard but gently remind the important people a few times during the day
- If you combine your party with a holiday party make sure folks know you are stealing the limelight at least for an hour
- Get you a cake. Don’t forget the cake I don’t care what holiday it is
I declare my birthday as an official holiday though because it’s my day. The day I was born and entered into this world. It’s the day that I can take to celebrate who I am. I don’t want to share it with others and I would be so mad if I had a twin, like boop you gotta pick another day lol. Honestly though take the time for your birthday to do something for you. Don’t wait on anyone to do anything for you that you can’t do yourself.
Here is a quick video I did on what I got for my birthday and a few lessons I learned this year.

December 17, 2019 at 1:03 pmI used to always want my birthday to be on Christmas, but once I got older I hear these same tips from everyone that has a birthday around this time! Definitely take a day or half-day for yourself! Happy Birthday! And the story about your mom made my allergies flare up this morning

December 27, 2019 at 12:40 amKudos to showing us your beautiful face in a video. I totally understand how you feel although I can’t relate. I believe everyone should feel special on their birthday. No matter what day it falls on. My daughter has a January birthday, we make sure we celebrate it like Christmas wasn’t two weeks ago.

January 2, 2020 at 3:50 amI love the jewelry tradition you and your mom shared! I think its great to make noise for your birthday if it falls near the holidays. I have a birthday a week before Valentines day so I celebrate an annual Galentines Birthday Brunch so I definitely combine the two!
