Here is how you make homemade cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting.

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting

Cinnamon rolls have been around for a pretty long time. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that hadn’t heard of a cinnamon roll. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever met someone that hadn’t tried one either. They’re a classic and are well worth the bit of effort it takes to make them. I don’t often like to jump in the kitchen and whip stuff up, but cinnamon rolls are an exception.

This sweet roll actually originated in Sweden and has some pretty long names in other countries that I won’t even pretend I know how to pronounce. So, if you ever want to order one in another country that doesn’t speak English, I’m sorry, I can’t help you with that. I would suggest pulling up a picture on your phone and going that route.

How Do I Keep My Cinnamon Rolls Moist?

The best way to make your cinnamon rolls last longer and not go stale is to store them properly. The best way to do this is by placing them in an airtight container and placing them in a cool, dry place. Storing them in the fridge or freezer is fine, but they will definitely end up sticky or dried out once they’re reheated. Wrapping each cinnamon roll individually in plastic wrap before storing them is also a great way to keep them soft.

Cook Time: 15 Minutes

Total Time: 60 Minutes

Yields: 12 Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Warm Whole Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 4 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Instant Yeast
  • ¼ Cup Butter + ¼ Cup Butter, softened
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Cinnamon

Frosting:

  • 4 Ounces Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Unsalted Butter
  • ¼ Cup Milk
  • 1 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine the warm milk and ¼ cup of the softened butter in a small bowl.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sugar, yeast, and 2 ½ cups of flour. Mix well.
  4. Add the egg and butter mixture to the bowl and beat for a few minutes.
  5. Add the rest of the flour to the bowl and knead until the flour is incorporated. The dough should be slightly sticky.
  6. Dump onto a floured surface and roll out the dough. Let sit for about 15 minutes.
  7. Roll out the dough again and make it a large rectangle that’s about a foot by 14 inches or so.
  8. Spread the rest of the softened butter across the surface of the dough, evenly.
  9. Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and sprinkle the mixture evenly over the surface of the dough.
  10. Starting at one end, roll the dough into a large roll, tightly. Cut into 12 equal rolls.
  11. Place in a 9×13 pan that’s been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray or greased with butter. Place a towel over the top and let them sit for 30 minutes.
  12. Bake for 15 minutes or until slightly golden brown. Let cool.
  13. In a large bowl, beat together all the ingredients for the frosting and once the rolls are cooled, place it on top and enjoy!
