The Netflix of books is here + Wed Links

I love reading and the library in my area sucks. They are never open and if they are open it’s weird hours. Now they are closed for “remodeling”…right! I try to support authors and buy books but sometimes my budget isn’t there and let’s be honest. Once you read a book its a done deal. You just spent 15 bucks for a book to collect dust. I am tired of doing that so enter Scribd. I came across a while ago but never really paid any attention to it. Then one of my blogger buddies mentioned it to me and I took a closer look at it and realized that I love this concept. It’s like the Netflix of books. You pay for a subscription and you read at your own pace. Now, this might not work for those who like to read real books and turn the page or for those who read on Kindle and like to highlight certain sections. A quick fix for that is to write down in a journal some of the key pieces from the book or you can put it in a blog post like I do for future references. I had a chance to ask Scribd some questions about their services see their answers below. Would you use Scribd for reading? How do you read books?

What is Scribd

1. Is this site a great site for kids who love to read to sign up for? My audience consists of moms with kids and they would love to know if this would make a great gift for kids of any ages or certain ages.
Scribd is a reading subscription service with over a million ebooks and audiobooks. For $8.99 a month, we offer access to fiction and nonfiction, as well as magazine articles and documents related to topics of interest. It’s a perfect gift for moms who love to read and be informed!

2. What makes you all different from the local library?
Scribd offers a monthly subscription to ebooks, audiobooks, magazine articles and more. It’s the largest digital library in the world, and like you said, can be thought of like the Netflix for books. There are a few key differences between Scribd and a traditional library, the biggest being that the content you want is always available, even if others are reading it too.

3. How often do you update with new books?
We partner with publishers around the world to get new books and magazine articles regularly.
4. I feel you all are the Netflix of the book world. Are there any upcoming exclusive books that will only be on Scribd?
Yes, we recently released our first Scribd Original, called Mueller’s War. We’ll be publishing our second Scribd Original at the end of the month: a true crime story that was written by Vanity Fair’s contributing editor, Mark Seal. Scribd Originals are truly unique. Our Originals program is meant to give authors an opportunity to publish experimental content that might not have a place in the traditional publishing world. These pieces are typically longer than a magazine article and shorter than a book and may be expanded on down the road.
Scribd Originals are available in ebook and audiobook formats and span across a range of genres, including investigative reporting, memoir, literary fiction, thrillers, mysteries, horror, true crime, narrative history, and self-improvement.
So I signed up for one month to see how it goes. I will come back and update this post to tell you how it really is and my true thoughts. Stay tuned!

My son has allergies and I want fresh flowers. Here is a list of those flowers I can get in my home that doesn’t bother his allergies.

I am weary about blog conferences these days and prefer to go to other conferences that have nothing to do with blogging.

It’s hard to cut sugar away from your diet so I am starting to make small changes. Number one get rid of white sugar and use raw sugar instead.

I’ve seen so many people in the booktube/bookish world rave about Scribd. I just might look into it because our local library is starting to have weird hours as well. Plus, hold times for certain books can be outrageous. Also, there’s definitely no perfect way to make guac in my opinion. I’ve had a few different recipes and they were all equally delicious.

I have heard of Scribd, but never got more familiar with it outside of the concept. I hate waiting for books at the library (even the digital ones), so I just might have to give this a try. Thanks for giving us a thorough description of the program.!

Scribd sounds like a subscription site that would be great for my family. I’d totally sign up next year, this school year I’m already paying for several subscription services.
