We’ve all heard the old sayings many many times. What goes around comes around, Sticks and stones may break your bones, etc. Some of the sayings are older than you and I put together but their still being said by many. Let’s discuss some of the sayings and if they still hold true today.

Sticks and Stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you.

I don’t know about you but words hurt more than the sticks and stones. Someone can throw a brick at me and I heal but the words that people will say seems to never heal. Words have the power to hurt and have deeper scars than getting scratched or having a bone broken. Sure it hurts for that moment but then it heals and we go on but words……not so much. I remember a professor in college told me that I was dumb and that I would never amount to anything. I was a junior at Clark Atlanta University and he told me this. Of course I came back with your mama at the time because I was shocked number 1 and 2 I didn’t have anything else to say. In hindsight I should have said nothing and proved him wrong. The words still hurt to this day and I have proven to myself and to others that I am not dumb and that I can do what needs to be done. This happened back in 2003 ….the words still carry a scar.

Treat people how you want to be treated

Some of us don’t know how to treat ourselves. When we treat ourselves messed up then we can’t expect others to treat us like a gold mine. Before my husband passed I was a workaholic I never took the time to sit down. People treated me as such and would come to me with projects and ask for my help and they knew that because I worked like crazy I would do it. I treated myself as a workaholic so others treated me the same. Now I take the time to say no and if I can’t do it I tell people no with no problems at all. If you dress like a prostitute sadly you will be treated like one with name callings and much much more.

Blood is thicker than water

No the hell it ain’t. I have had strangers treat me better than my own family. I do not tolerate foolishness I don’t care if you are blood or you are someone I have known for a while. Foolishness is foolishness and I don’t accept it from anyone. I have had people who have known me all of my life and they don’t even know I have a blog but strangers will know who I am if I mention the name. I won’t even tolerate mess from my own kids. Once I raise you and you choose to go out and do what you want against what I taught you then you are on your own. I don’t love you any less I just don’t want it around me.

Curiosity Killed the cat

Cat’s have nine lives…..I doubt if the cat will be killed on the first go round but if the cat keeps trying to be curious…then yeah the fate is sealed. We all have that one neighbor who we think is weird. I will use my neighbor for example….he has about 5 women living there and he has a pimp mobile (a Chrysler 300) Now I’m not saying it’s a prostitute ring going on but what I am saying is it’s weird to have 5 women living with one man in a 3 bedroom house. Maybe their his daughters or sisters…..but driving in and out of the subdivision at ungodly hours of the night…makes me a bit suspicious. Am I curious enough to go over there and ask….nope.  Curiosity gets me but I don’t take it too far!
