Children are honest…if you ever want to know something ask a child they will tell you the truth because they have not mastered the concept of lying quite yet. My 8 yr old who will be 9 in April …..lets just say I sometimes want to cuss her out but I must learn that if I can dish it I must be able to take it too.
Scene: Coming out of the shower the girl busts the door wide open…..no respect for my nakedness….none
Me: *grabs a towel* Could you maybe have knocked first before you come into my bathroom
Zaza: *goes back and knocks*
Me: *(in my head) smartass* Who is it
Zaza: me
Me: Me who
Zaza: I don’t like this game you know who I am
Me: What do you want?
Zaza: *starts laughing* Mom your tummy looks like a bagel a big ol bagel with a hole in it………………………..
Go ahead and laugh I will give you a minute
Me: *looks in mirror* That’s not nice you just hurt mommy’s feeling ( I start to pretend cry)
Zaza: Aww Mom don’t cry if you if you lose some weight you can look like a flat bread
Conclusion: *sigh* my tummy does look like a bagel it’s deflating a little though cause my stomach is going down. Of all the things she could have called me… a cow, an elephant, she had to call me a bagel. I am not upset I have been called many names before and I know I am fat or thick however you want to call it but a bagel….I am just so confused by how a 8-year-old came up with the word bagel to describe me.

March 7, 2018 at 1:04 pmKids are so honest sometimes. My body is definitely NOT the way I want it, but I am working on it and I will get there…eventually.

March 7, 2018 at 1:06 pmMy favorite saying. I didn’t start out looking like this. Three kids and 58 years later. Don’t care.

March 7, 2018 at 1:24 pmOh yeah, I have honest kids too. My son has autism so he’s especially honest. If you want to know if you look okay in an outfit, ask him. He’s blunt. He tells me, “I see your gray hairs!” often.

March 7, 2018 at 1:38 pmI’m glad you two have such a fun playful relationship. Kids will say anything. They don’t mean anymore harm. They are just brutally honest.

March 7, 2018 at 1:50 pmI will never look st a bagel the same. I agree. Where do kids come up with this stuff?!?

March 7, 2018 at 2:46 pmI think she’s adorable, and her imagination is great from what we’ve seen. I think you’re an amazing mom though. Cool links! Thanks for posting them.

March 7, 2018 at 7:20 pmYep, kids are so very honest even if it is brutal. But a bagel? That is a new one.

March 7, 2018 at 8:07 pmChildren’s imaginations are great. For a good sandwich, my favorite kind has my favorite mayo, my favorite sliced American cheese from the deli and my favorite meat on my favorite potato bread.

March 7, 2018 at 8:26 pmMy kiddo has done this to me! As much as I don’t like to hear it I am happy that my kiddo feels he can be honest with me! It also motivates me to exercise more!

March 7, 2018 at 9:07 pmI totally laughed, a bagel, that’s a new one! Kids are hilarious, with all the crazy things they come up with.

March 7, 2018 at 9:33 pmKids can be so mean sometimes! Gotta love their brutal honesty though A little self reflection can’t hurt.. but I’m sure your tummy isn’t quite as bad as she made it out to be!

March 7, 2018 at 9:47 pmMy son tells me all the time when he hugs me that he likes that my tummy is fluffy. I know that in his mind he thinks this compliment of some sort but I’d be lying if I said my feelings weren’t hurt a bit. It’s definitely motivated me to get back on my fitness wagon.

March 7, 2018 at 11:45 pmAww, kids say the most outrageous things and that’s what makes them adorable. I think you’re a lovely mom to your kids. Very sweet and cute!

March 8, 2018 at 12:31 amMy daughter is the same way, no respect for a closed door and super honest. She keeps me on point though and I am just waiting for about 25 more years when she is closer to where I am in life now to throw a few zingers back at her. 🙂

March 8, 2018 at 12:35 amKids are the most transparent human being that is why they are so special. Your conversation with your kiddo is so adorable.

March 8, 2018 at 11:37 amGirl, that’s hilarious. I can’t wait to hear the things my son comes up with. He’s only one now. On another note, I’m sure your daughter will think you’re beautiful no matter your size.

March 8, 2018 at 1:44 pmOh the things that kids say. My boys have told me so many weird and negative things about the way I look. I always tell them that they are the reasons why my skin looks weird and everything sags!

March 8, 2018 at 4:47 pmI love bagels and please – and it’s a mummy’s prerogative to look have some tummy – I do but I know that I carried my kid there!

March 8, 2018 at 11:26 pmKids are one of the most honest people I’ve ever met. I can relate to this because when I was a kid was also very honest all the time.

March 9, 2018 at 1:17 amAs a mom of a 6 yr old, I get this. Least you were home in private because kids will say truth anytime, anywhere.

March 9, 2018 at 2:17 amAt this point in my life, I think being called a bagel would actually be a compliment. I love how comfortable your eight year old just shares her unfiltered thoughts.

March 9, 2018 at 3:03 amaww this sounds like something my son would say! Luckily he does knock though so I’ve never had a convo like this haha. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of someone being called a bagel before

March 9, 2018 at 3:20 amI laughed too, a bagel? That is so random. That is how my kids treat me, they say whatever they want. They walk up and pinch my gut and make jokes. My daughter called me a boy for a long time because of my haircut.

March 9, 2018 at 8:16 amDamn kids are so brutally honest. Sheesh she didnt have to go that deep – I am nervous to have kids to see what crazy mess they will say on me.
Natasha
March 9, 2018 at 6:46 pmBrutally honest. Good grief. I have four of ’em at home with me. From one telling me that she is proud of me for finally making rice that isn’t blank (bland) to the another telling me I just need to lose a little waist (weight) and I’ll feel better. Hmph.

March 9, 2018 at 8:07 pmOmg a bagel?! My kids have called me all kinds of things I swear sometimes they are trolling me lol

March 11, 2018 at 12:39 pmHahaha that’s too funny. I’ve been insulted more times than I could count by my kids and their innocent honesty.

March 14, 2018 at 7:21 pmKids will tell you exactly what they think (while throwing caution to the wind). I enjoyed your post and laughed at the bagel reference. Thanks for sharing the links. I’ve bookmarked a few for future reading.
