Sickly Kids + Wed Links

For you parents who have sick kids all the time, I pray daily for you. It’s tough when you have to stay at the doctor’s office or stay in the emergency room when kids get sick. My son developed allergies at the age of 8 and he has to go to the doctor often to re-up on his allergy meds, get weight checks (he is huge for his height), check on his asthma, etc. He also is lactose intolerant so if he eats anything with lactose he can sometimes throw up and/or be on the toilet for hours. He should be used to his allergies and oddly enough when he is at home he is fine…when he goes to the school that’s when it hits him the hardest. It’s so bad that his 4th and 5th grade year he missed up to 10 days from school due to allergies. Last year with the drops he only missed 6 which is down some but still, it’s hard. He is 12 and should be used to his allergies but sometimes….he acts like this is new to him. How do you handle it when kids get sick?

When kids get sick

I dropped him off at school and I knew his throat hurt and that is due to allergies. He knows this but….

Me: I know your throat hurts but it’s Friday try to make it through school today and we will go to the Doctor today to make sure it isn’t strep

Son: Mom I can’t swallow I don’t think I should go to school today

Me: if you stay at home I will have this this and that for you to do

Son: Never mind I will go to school

He texts me around 10 am

Son via text: Mom I’m going to the nurse office so get ready to pick me up

Me via text: I’m not picking you up cause if you were that sick you wouldn’t be bothering to text me

Son via text: Mom I forgot my lunch so you need to come and bring that and you might as well come and pick me up from school kill two birds with one stone

Me via text: *I sent him the laughing emoji*

Around 1 pm I guess he finally made his way to the nurse office so they called me

Nurse: Hi are you Dman’s mom? He said he his throat hurts there seems to be no redness around his throat so I don’t think it’s strep. If you want to come and get him…..

Me: I interrupt her…..No I won’t be coming to get him he gets out of school in one hour tell him to suck it up for another hour because it’s just allergies and send him right on back to class.

She sent him back when I picked him up I asked him if his throat still hurt he said yes mom I guess me being your cute son won’t get me picked up

Son: I thought I was your sonshine your everything you left me in school oh btw I failed a test too…..

That’s why his butt wanted to get picked up. I ain’t fool.

Do you send your kids to school when they have allergies?

I have a small back patio and these are great ideas. I think I will work on that next summer

One thing my mom always stressed to me is that I will never understand men…so far she is right

I have told a few of these lies to my kids

My daughter has me on this planner thing these days and I am loving these tips

Number 8 is me every year why can’t they just update it on the computer and call it a day

She was an icon and I feel no ounce of sadness when it comes to her life she lived that!

I don’t meal plan well. I always say I got it this week and then somehow end up in the Zaxby’s line

I love mother and son dates. I did this one around Atlanta with my son

LOL! Kids will make a way to get out of a test. Allergies are crazy during this time of year but I’m glad he’s okay.

Po baby! If Christopher didn’t get a good night’s sleep I won’t send this to school. I think he missed about 3 days and a couple early dismissals last year because of allergies. It’s always in the spring though when it’s bad. We’ve invested in some air filters so he has one in his room now. I’d like to see how it makes a difference once the seasonal allergies start. But I had how school starts and he’s sniffling days in when he was fine before.

He is a trip! My kids also think that they can get everything they want just by being themselves. I mean… it is true for the most part!

Your son was so adamant about missing school he didnt want to fail the test. Kids think they are so slick glad you payed attention to your intuition. .

You’re such an incredible mommy. I hate when my kids are sick too, but like you I still have to stay on my toes and make sure that they are doing their best to take care of themselves when I’m away.

My daughter is 7 and she already knows to use the “I’m sick” excuse to get out of school, but we have caught on. These kids, man.
