Changing from an Electric Stove to an Induction

I’ve been wanting a gas stove, but I’m settling for changing from an electric to an induction oven instead. With my house, gas isn’t an option. However, I ran across an induction oven and realized that others must be missing out on this golden realization as well. So, if you’re unfamiliar with an induction oven, you’ll want to keep reading to learn all about it. Plus, you’ll learn how to make the switch if desired. Here are my thoughts on changing from an Electric Stove to an Induction.

Changing from an Electric Stove to an Induction

What is an Induction Oven?

An induction oven uses an electromagnetic technique for heat. It technically uses electricity for this technique, but in a much more energy efficient way than a traditional electric stove. Induction ovens don’t use coils or open flames, they use magnetic fields that heat up quickly and cool down quickly. This makes them more efficient in heat management and much safer for use in general, but especially where pets and kids are concerned.

The only issue you might run into is needing to have specific pots and pans to go with the oven. This specific cookware is called “conductive cookware.” Specific metals within the pans work better than others, such as iron. The manual for your stove will be able to offer the best suggestions where this is concerned.

FAQs About Induction Ovens

  • No change – If you already have an electric stove, you won’t have to make any changes where the energy source is concerned. This is because, as mentioned, an induction oven utilizes electricity as its energy source. However, it uses far less and relies on it far less than a traditional electric oven. So, that’s a big perk and saves a few steps, where is, swapping out for gas takes a lot of changes.
  • Flat top only – You’ll have to get used to always using a flat top since all induction cooktops and ranges utilize this. It’s an important aspect to the way the heat is provided.
  • They’re pricey – It’s not as easy to find induction options, especially when walking into a store such as Lowes. When you finally find them, they will be a lot pricier than your usual oven and cooktop options. No worries, the prices are still doable, you just won’t have any cheap options to choose from.
  • It’s hard to know when they’re on – When using an induction oven, there will be no visual indicators that it’s heated and ready to go. Gas and electric ovens all glow orange or blue to let you know they’re ready to cook. However, unless you buy an induction oven that specifically states it includes visual indicators, you won’t have any. I’m not bothered by this, but it may be useful to some.
  • It stops heating without pans – As soon as you remove the pot or pan from the stove top, the heating stops. This is because the induction oven uses the pan itself to help produce heat.

I’m pretty excited for this switch in my kitchen! Changing from an electric to an induction oven might not be the right option for everyone, but it’s definitely one of the neatest and most energy-efficient options on the market today.

The induction that I am looking at is the cafe induction.

Changing from an Electric to an Induction Oven

I love the double oven options and the knobs for this. Here is a bonus tip join the induction group on Facebook it has a world of knowledge if you are looking to switch over. Just put in induction group and it should pop up.

If you have an induction tell me the brand that you have and what you love about it.

I’ve had one for years and didn’t know all of what you shared. It’s different when something is already in place when you move in, then you just wing it without learning about it. So it’s been replaced since then and again I didn’t really read any instructions. The oven part was different so I referred to the manual on that. I really love the self cleaning mode in the oven. The is prep work involved and you still have to clean the racks yourself which is just as much work. It’s true about using particular pans. I was really careful in the beginning but once it was scratch I wasn’t so careful anymore. So the front burners have those worn spots and it’s from the wrong type of pan dragging on it. You can’t really good and leave a pot alone. So if/when you ever by a wok make sure it can be used on an induction stovetop. That’s the main pan that has worn my surface and it was a cheap ole wok but I like it. It’s what I make fried rice in. At the end of the day though, when everything is clean it still looks nice – loved and used. I’m getting ready to click over the cafe induction because I’m not familiar. I have a Samsung. I would choose differently next time because it needed service several times while it was under warranty for the fans on the inside of the oven. Knock on wood, there hasn’t been any other issues.

I have not seen any good induction ovens that I could make a switch to. I had a hybrid one, but it’s still not 100% induction.

I currently have a gas stove but an induction oven sounds like a really good option. I like that they stop heating if you remove the pan! So smart.

I would love this simply because it shuts off after the pot has been removed. I’m known to forget burners are on!

I was wondering about the differences between these two stoves. I understand that the induction one is more modern but I am afraid it won’t be so efficient like the old electric one. Thanks for your tips!

I like that it stops heating immediately. This is a worry I have with children and electric stoves, because even when the “red glow” is gone it’s still hot for a long time.

So interesting to learn about this kind of cooktop. We have only ever had gas and it would be neat to consider this when we redo our kitchen.
