Can you live in Atlanta without a car?

My short answer to the question is no. I can’t but there are many who do for various reasons. Imagine having to choose between a car note and rent. Imagine having a car and something goes wrong and you can’t afford to pay the car note and fix it.

I know Atlanta isn’t New York and yellow cabs aren’t everywhere but in today’s world we have so many options to get around the question we have to ask ourselves is can we live anywhere without a car? Can we live in Atlanta without a car?

I’m independent and I can’t depend on people to take me around. When it’s time for me to go…it’s time for me to go. I also don’t like waiting. My patience isn’t set up for that. I was out with some friends the other night and imagine if I didn’t have my car and something happened to my kids (whom I left at home for the evening) and I couldn’t get to them fast enough. Or better yet let me give you a real-life moment.

About two weeks ago. I left to take my daughter to dance. I woke my son up from his nap and told him I was leaving. I left him with his list of chores and walked out of the house.  After about an hour of me gone, I called him to see how his chores were coming along and to check on him. No answer. I called the house phone, the cell phone, the house, the cell, over and over again (23 times in total) I was panicking. I had to high tail it about 35 min back to my house to check on him. All was well he fell back asleep but what if I didn’t have my car.

Living in Atlanta, the city of Atlanta, it’s easy to get to the stores and places to eat especially if you live in an area that has the hip spots that these millennials like where you can eat, shop, and play all in one place. If you aren’t living close to things then my suggestion would be to get you a car because that uber ride into the downtown area…I couldn’t do it.

Lfyt and Uber makes getting around easy

Do you think that cars will be ending soon? I mean someone has to have a car to do Lyft and Uber but are most people ditching their car to ride in an uber? Let’s see the cost benefits…

Say you have a car that’s $400 a month and then you have a $200 car insurance. If you live near where you work the ride in uber would probably be $20 a month (could be less). Let’s say you ride two and from work 5 days a week. That’s $40 a day times 5 = $200. You can always find a ride to take you to the store once or twice a month so on average you are saving 400 a month. I think that’s a good deal!

America’s New Car Love Is Running Out of Gas

I am hearing that a lot of car companies are cutting some of their popular fleets. Chevy is getting rid of the Impala. Cadillac got rid of most of their cars. They aren’t making as many cars as they use to which leads to job loss. We aren’t loving new cars in America like we use to. I think Uber and Lfyt in the future may even have their own set of cars for people to drive on a daily basis to get others around cutting out the need for people to have car notes. They can just drive one of their cars around for the day pay a certain fee and then return the car the next day. No worrying about car insurance or even gas. Is this the future of America?

If you live in the city you do have instacart, you do have grub hub, post mates, uber eats, amazon prime now, etc. Even if you need bulk items you can do Boxed.com and I’m sure Costco or Sam’s Club will start their own delivery service soon.

Whatever you decide to do when it comes to a car make the right decision based on your life. Speaking of cars if you don’t want to spend the money on buying one right now how about you come to the Atlanta Car show and check out some of your dream cars so that when you do ball out of control you can buy the car you truly love instead of wasting money on a car for right now.

I think you can if you use Uber or Lyft. Technically it’s a car, but not yours. If I lived in an area where I could easily catch a bus, I’d probably stick with that. Cars can get pricey!

Checking out auto shows are always fun! My husband drools over all the trucks and fancy cars.

I can’t do without a car. I work part time pet sitting and that means running place to place. I used to have a 1968 Camero which I believe is in your first photo. Loved that car!

If you live in a large city with great transportation system you can do without a car. We live in the midwest. If you don’t have a car you don’t go anywhere.

I think you can live just about any city without a car. It may be a little inconvenient, but there are ways to get around.

I grew up in Toronto, ON. This city was made with transit in mind and has incorporated public transit into its infrastructure well. I got around with ease. I also understand the need to be independent. If I lived inATL, I think I would need a car to get around, too.

I can see our three car family reducing to one once we have fully retired. That’s what may be the best solution.

I think a car is a must nowadays and it doesn’t metter where you live. But sometimes, for a family it’s enough one car!

I have to admit that I may live in very expensive NYC but one of the reasons that I do is that I don’t have to drive. I do miss driving but I just like being able to walk to the local supermarket or drugstore or just go window shopping. Going to a car show every few years is fun time just to see what’s new!

I can live without care maybe because I always stay at home. But it will be convenient to own one, if it’s not so expensive!

I am living in my country without a car. Good thing there is so many public transportation. For me, its not really a necessity unless you have a little kid. It’s more of an expense one you get one.

I couldn’t do it. Only because I have 4 very active kids. We are barely cutting it with 2 cars right now 🙂

Having a car makes life a lot easier, but it is also expensive and can be a headache depending on where you live. My oldest child lives in Seattle and only uses public transportation and Lyft. My next two kids live in apartments with off street parking. They have to move their cars every day, which is a bit of a pain. In our small town, most people have cars and drive themselves to their destinations, even though there is a bus service.

I would love to live in a big city where not owning a car could be an option. There is so much you have to do to take care of a car + gas is getting expensive again!

It’s so hard to get around in Atlanta even with a car! I think Uber and Lyft are great options, but definitely hard to use if you have to commute.

We are a two car family. When a car is in the shop or one dies, we are up a creek. Although my husband can technically take the train to work – it’s still not convenient given his work hours and there are fewer trains at night.
Our son doesn’t attend his neighborhood school so we drive 9 miles each way to school from our house.
I know more folks are moving towards Lyft/Uber, but I’m not sure that would work for our family.
