Best Small Cities for a Girls Getaway

One of the things that I will be doing in the new year is taking trips with my girls. You are never to busy for some girl time and a great way to get together is to plan early. Get your calendars out and pick a weekend. Meet in the middle somewhere or pick a spot to meet up. Here are some of my favorite best small cities for a girls getaway.

Best small cities for a girls getaway

Blue Ridge Mountains Girls Trip Getaway

The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center in Roanoke, Virginia is an ideal base camp for the ultimate girls’ weekend getaway. Whether you spend time hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains or exploring museums, you’re sure to have a great time. Downtown Roanoke is renowned for its fun restaurants and bars so it is a great spot for chatting over cocktails or grabbing a delicious meal. To truly reap the benefits of a getaway with your best girlfriends, Hotel Roanoke provides a luxury spa massage and Himalayan salt pedicures. What better way to wind down and begin a weekend of self-care than with an indulgent spa trip with your besties.

Visit the Purple Island in the Sunshine State

Head to the Sunshine State with your girls and visit Islamorada, Florida. The Cheeca Lodge Resort and Spa is a perfect destination for a girls’ getaway trip to the beach. The Florida Keys provide a stunning backdrop for an amazing trip full of delicious food, self-care and time away with friends. The spa will leave you relaxed and ready for a trip full of beach adventure, fun or just rest and relaxation. Whether you’re interested in shopping or exploring the countless artisans on Islamorada (the purple island) the options are endless. From glassblowing to watercolors, all mediums are represented in this quirky, artsy city.

A Girls Trip Full of Southern Charm on Jekyll Island

Relax on the shores of the Sea Islands with a girls’ trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia. Here you’ll encounter pristine beaches, breathtaking ocean views and countless things to see and do. If you have history buffs in your group, a trip to Fort Frederica National Monument will be in order. Your group will enjoy relaxing on the beach or perusing the various art galleries in town. Whether you’re more of a bed and breakfast group or prefer a luxury five-star resort, Jekyll Island has something for everyone. Southern charm abounds; consider renting a bike to explore the town or venture out on foot under the mossy oaks on your way to the abundant shopping options.

A New England Beach Trip for Just The Girls

Experience quintessential New England with a girls’ trip to York, Maine. This oceanfront city is made up of four villages that boast historic homes, sandy beaches and stunning views of the Atlantic. Get out on a coastal adventure on the Long Sands Beach Cliff Path for a half-mile hike. The crashing waves in the background and fresh salty air will clear your mind and indulge your senses. This Summer resort town is home to Mount Agamenticus where, after a short hike, you and your friends will be rewarded with breathtaking ocean views. What better place for a group selfie than the top of a mountain overlooking the water.

Indulge in wine tasting at the Wiggly Bridge Distillery. If your group likes beer, the Some Brewery offers an open-mike night, tours and tastings. Try the Whoopie Pie Stout if you go, you can’t beat a beer with notes of cocoa, vanilla and cacao nibs.

Getting out of your normal routine and spending time with your best friends is a great way to get back to your true self. Being away from the responsibilities of motherhood, even for just aA girls trip getaway is a great way to practice a little self-care. As women, we often get lost in our identities as a mother, daughter, employee or wife. By taking time away with just the girls, we can step back into our true self and rediscover who we really are. It is nice to be able to step back from the vast responsibilities that come with being a woman and just spend some ‘me time’. Traveling with your girlfriends is one way to recharge with your support network and just ‘be’ for a while. It’s often not enough for just a girl’s night in a nearby town.

To truly unplug, it is essential to your well-being and individuality, to get out of town and shift your focus back to nurturing who you truly are as a person. A girl’s trip to one of these small cities may be just the thing you need. Don’t worry, everyone will be fine back at home, this is your time, so book those tickets and go ‘head-on.

Greenville South Carolina is the Perfect Upstate Girls Trip Getaway

Despite not getting the accolades and attention that Charleston and Myrtle Beach receive, Greenville deserves its spot on the map. Whether its spending time doing yoga or perusing the trail at Falls Creek on the Reedy, Greenville is a great girls’ trip destination. Consider a wine tasting and pairing at CityScapes Wine. Here you’ll be able to try several wines along with seasonal cheese plate, fruits, meats, and crackers while spending time laughing with your friends. If you’d rather, the city also offers a yearly Community Tap Craft Beer Festival. A Spring girls-only weekend away is a fantastic time to visit Greenville as well. Art fans will enjoy the Artisphere Festival. The three-day festival is a great place to check out artists or purchase something special to take home and features delicious food and performers.

Discover Black History on a St. Augustine Girls Trip

St. Augustine is ideal for foodies and history buffs alike. A girl’s trip to this coastal Florida setting will have you enjoying the sun, surf, and sand. Foodies and chocolate lovers alike will enjoy the numerous tasting tours and restaurants throughout the city. The Whetstone Chocolate Factory offers a tasting tour of the bustling candy factory. Here you and your girls can get your chocolate fix and try their countless variations of dark, milk and white chocolates If you’d like to get a feel for the historical depth of St. Augustine, a Red Train Trolley Tour is a great way to sit back, relax and take it all in.

One option is the 70-minute fully-narrated Black History Tour through Florida’s first African American community in St. Augustine. On the tour, you’ll follow Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr path during the 1964 Civil Rights demonstrations. You’ll also see author, Zora Neale Hurston’s St. Augustine home and learn more about the community of Lincolnville.

A short weekend trip can help you refocus and recharge. Choosing a small city for a quick girls’ trip is a no-pressure, simple way to find yourself again.

I live in New England and I think Newport, RI is a major hotspot for girls getaways and bachelorette parties.

I’d be happy with any of these places! It’s always nice to getaway with friends. It’s been a while since I’ve done that. The last trip was years ago to NYC which obviously is NOT a small city.

OGH my goodness well I love St Augustine so that would be top of my list. I honestly never really considered small cities for girls getaways and I have done many girls getaways over the last 4 years here as a travel writer. Great ideas. I love New England for anything at all – any kind of getaway any time of the year.

I would love a New England beach trip – especially with my besties! It’s been so long since I got a mama-only (plus friends!) getaway, I really need it.

I do not have a regular girls gang I travel with but these should be nice for a family to explore also. I have to see Greenville or Jekyll Island to start.

I would LOVE to go to any of these spots on a girl’s trip. I was just talking to my two besties about maybe doing a girl’s getaway to a cabin in the Smoky Mountains.

Girls trips are fun! I went to Mexico earlier this year with my mom, aunts and cousins. We had a blast just being together.

I’ve been to all of these cities at one time or another and love them all. I do have a special spot for Greenville because I live so close. We always take our guests there to enjoy some real southern charm.
