Say Yes to Summer: 5 Ways to get fit this summer while the kids are out of school

It’s almost Summer! This summer I am taking it easy because I’m tired y’all. TIRED!!!!!!! I rip and run Monday through Saturday doing kids stuff and work stuff so this summer we are taking a break. No dance for my daughter (I opted not to put her in dance this summer), Kumon will be limited to once a week (I will just pick up my sons assignments and call it a day), I might pull him out of boxing this summer that is still on the table for now but I know mama needs a break and a break is what I will take. Since I don’t have to get up in the mornings to take the kids to school and we are limiting our summer activities I thought it would be a great time to put effort into kicking my weight loss in the bootay. Most people exercise in the winter to get ready for the summer but Kita…..I am the total opposite I exercise in the summer to get ready for the extra serving of pie during the holidays (*side eye*). For real though I plan on doing something this summer to help me lose some weight. My goal is to lose 50lbs by my birthday in December and I want to come as close to that as possible.  So how do I plan on doing that this summer? Let me tell you my 5 ways…….

Walking every evening – Every evening we will walk! If I can’t get outside I will walk in my house around and around and around it. I want to clock at least 3 miles a day. Evenings are better for me as I have already eaten for the day and I can walk all of dinner off. It also helps me sleep better at night when I walk. I will get the kids involved and make them walk a few times with me also. Late evenings when the sun is going down is just what the doctor ordered. Make sure you walk with good shoes I suggest getting a good tennis shoes like nike. Also make sure you walk with your volume down low because people are fool these days. I walk around my neighborhood which is almost 5 miles all the way around. I do this at least twice a week already and plan on increasing it as the summer sets in.

Hiring a personal trainer – I can’t do the gym because I will be traveling this summer quite a bit so no need to pay for a gym when I won’t be able to utilize it as much. I need someone who can work on my schedule. Someone who can just tell me what I need to do and keep me accountable with food and exercises to help me get my body in shape. I am still on the hunt for one so if you know of any let me know. Online can work to because I always skype them or talk to them on google so if you know of a personal trainer give me their info. Hiring someone that can work on my time helps me because let’s face it…I don’t want to pay for a gym and then I have no idea of my schedule when the kids school start back in July. I want to make sure that I can ultilize my time while carting them from place to place. So while I am at dance I can work out in the parking lot and maximize my hour while waiting on my daughter. Or I can exercise at night when I am done with all of my work. I know that it’s easy to join the gym and go in the mornings but mornings are when I get my work done so that I can get to bed at a decent time in the evenings.

Find something you love to do – Take some time for yourself this summer and do something you love. Do you like to dance? Take a dance class. Do you like to swim? Find somewhere to swim for free. Doing something that you truly love to do doesn’t have to be hard. Just find it and do it and make it a goal to not only do this for yourself but use it as a way to lose some weight. I love to play basketball so I am thinking to get my son a basketball goal for his birthday and utilize that to help aid in my exercise regimen. Its a win win for both of us because we both get to exercise and play at the same time. We are both doing something we love to do!

Eat at home – Since the kids and I won’t be in the car all summer long like we are during the school days we can finally eat at home. I plan on cooking daily and cutting out what we eat at home. More salads and definitely more water. Infused waters are great for the summers to. Eating more fruits will be high on our list also. We will be having a meatless Monday this summer and doing salads one day a week. We will also cut out all the sugar intake and drink more water. There will be no sodas of any kind this summer for me or the kids and sweet tea only on the weekends!

Read health and fitness blogs – I am am avid blog reader and I realized that I only have one fitness blog in my feedly that focuses on health and fitness. I can’t believe I don’t have more. I am on the search for more fitness blogs and finding a way to stay motivated all summer long. Since I have more time on my hands I can read more on whats the best apps, best foods, and ways to exercise at home. If you know of any fitness blogs please send them my way!

After I have lost a few pounds I will be having a get together this summer to celebrate…with healthy food options of course. Evite® is always the easiest way to bring friends and family together for your events, big or small. I think losing weight this summer will be a great event to celebrate me and it gives me an excuse to have people join in with me on my healthy eating journey. I think Labor Day would be a great time to show off what I’ve done to lose weight so I am going to weigh in on June 1st and then let everyone see the results at a small get together on labor day!

I always start off with a bang when Christopher gets out of school then by the end of the summer I’ve totally blown it. He’s old enough to go to the gym with me now. That’ll keep him in shape for sports so hopefully I’ll have a gym partner. The only problem is, no one is a morning person but me.

My goal this summer is to get more walking in with my kids and just enjoy the great out doors. I think kids have forgotten how to be outside so its time to re-teach them the joy of nature.

Eating and cooking at home for the most part will be our strategy. There are too many tempting new restaurants to try but we have to stick to our meal plan so we can strictly monitor the calories. I also like reading fitness and wellness blogs to keep me inspired.

These are all great tips on how to get fit this summer. My exercise regimen is walking. I do that in the morning and evening. So far, it has kept my weight down. This summer, I will also keep myself busy by doing a lot of gardening. I love spending time in my garden. It makes me happy to see my plants blooming with pretty flowers!

My best friend is a personal trainer and I don’t even make time for her to train me LOL. I need to do that, though! Seriously.

Great post! I so feel you on everything, I am going to enjoy my summer this year! I feel I never get a chance to do so, between work and doing so much for kids and hubby I feel I never get a chance to just enjoy the summer days. I am also going to start walking in the mornings to enjoy some fresh air and to just release my mind, I would love a gym membership but with my back injury I know I have to be careful. Sure hope I drop a few pounds too, enjoy your summer!

Super easy ways to get fit and continue to exercise while kids are out of school. We do a lot of hiking and nature trail walking with the kids, plus geocaching which gets us active, outside and helps us adults stay active too!

I have been trying to add walking to places more. I also bought a nice pair of NIKE shoes to help ease my sore feet. Nothing to crazy but I am trying to put more exercise in my routine.

You make a lot of good points. When I am home with my son it is very difficult to get to the gym, so I don’t bother exercising. That is not smart! I could walk with him, just get out and do something!

Great tips for getting fit this summer! My friend actually has a fitness trainer and I am impressed with how fit she is looking these days. She didn’t tell me how much she is paying her trainer, but she said it was cheaper than what most people think. I enjoy dancing, so I think I’m going to start doing that as a form of exercise.
    Cute shoes! 🙂

Very encouraging to help me get through this summer and lose some weight. My husband and I just joined the gym and hoping we can lose some excess weight. It’s hard to get started but once you get there, its only up from there!

I’ve been following this whole 30 diet for a while now and it has changed my life for the better. It’s really important to find whatever works best for you because it’s easy to fall out of a diet or an exercise routine if you’re not enjoying it.

The two biggest things for me is taking a walk after the kids are in bed. Also, finding something you love is a brilliant idea! Makes it easier to do.

So many great tips. I love that you are getting the kids involved. We are doing the same thing. The girls are only doing 1 mandatory ballet camp this summer, other than that we are planning lots of lazy days by the pool, bike riding, walking the paths in the neighborhood, hiking and exploring. Bring on the road trips and family vacations. These kids don’t stay small forever so we need to take advantage of our time with them now.

I’m with you. I try to lose weight for the winter too because that’s when I put it on because of all the holidays and celebration foods. Good luck. I’ll look forward to seeing how you do this summer. Cheering you on from Indiana!

These look like really great ways to get fit. I do walk around the neighborhood everyday, even during school days. Now that school is out, I will take my child with me on my morning route. That would be nice to have a walking buddy!

I usually get my exercise by walking. However, this summer, I am going to up my game and as you suggested, I will do something that I really enjoy – work in my garden! That is one hobby that I enjoy doing and it does give me a good work-out too!

I find using one of those trackers is super helpful in increasing physical activity. It also won’t let you get away with tricking ourselves into thinking we’re more active then we are. No more pretending, lol!
