I have a table in my hallway, a coffee table, and a fireplace that I don’t use. I need to fancy it up with some fall decor! It is time to decorate for fall!
How I decorate for fall
As someone who doesn’t decorate at all I find myself always going to the store..seeing all the pretty things and I just buy them. No type of order or color scheme…I just buy what I think is pretty and hope that when I get home I can put something together. When I get home….nothing is together and I just want to throw the entire house into the trash.
I have been studying pinterest, my favorite home decor blogs, and I have been watching HGTV religiously…I still can’t decorate. The other day I said to myself….I said self…..I will do this and I will coordinate my house and I will be happy with the results. When it comes to home decor I don’t like to spend a lot of money especially since I change out my decor for various seasons. I change out for Fall, Christmas, and Spring. The rest of the months I use things that remind me of my hometown to decorate my home. I went to Homegoods a few days ago and after wandering around like a lost puppy for a while I picked up a few things.
Now this last picture I loved that gold bowl. I passed it by about 3 times before I decided you know what I better get it. The bad thing about Homegoods or any store like it is that if you see it and you like it….buy it. Don’t wait around because it will be gone in the blink of an eye.
I bought a candle holder, a throw cover that matched my couch, the gold bowl, and some pillows. I went to Pier One to get a few more items like some fall flowers and a pumpkin….because your fall decor is not complete without a pumpkin.
Here is my thought process. I need to start with the first thing people see when they walk into my home. It’s the table in the front room. We call that the daddy room with a lot of things that represent my late husband in that room. I use this room for homework and to sit and do work when I need some light. I thought I would go brown and cream with a nice vase. I bought these from Pier One
This for me is the focal point of my table for Fall. Next I want to do something with the hallway table. People pass that by as they come into the den
The box of stuff will go perfectly in my gold bowl and the flowers will look nice on the table. Of course I can’t do real flowers because I tend to kill them within 48 hours. Fake flowers for every season is my thing!
Ok so let’s do my fireplace. My fireplace is gas and y’all….I won’t be lighting that up without a man. I might have to rent me a husband to set it up for the holidays but until then I need to decorate in front of it. A lot of people told me to get candles but I can’t find enough so for now I am going to just put a few things in front of the fireplace until I collect enough candles.
Now let’s talk my coffee table…this has been the hardest thing for me to decorate since I utilize it so much for my cups, the kids leave papers on it, and I use it to house my remote control. Right now I just changed out the candles until I can decide how to bring everything together.
My kitchen table has the pumpkin….and that’s about it for now. (it’s on my counter now. I had it by the TV at first but moved it)
So how did I do? I have a long way to go but I think what I did was good for a non decorator like me. All in all I spent about $150 for everything including my wreath on my front door. I like to bargain shop and I stick to a budget. My kids love the throw cover on the couch out of all the stuff…..smh
Again I am not a decorator so I rely on other bloggers to inspire me to decorate here are a few that I follow
I got the vase idea from Mimi over at Unlikely Martha
The pumpkin idea came from this Fall House tour!
The fake flower idea came from this beautiful breakfast nook
I’m still working on my outside….right now I have just the wreath but I plan on getting more stuff.
Will you decorate for fall? Where do you shop for fall items?

September 29, 2017 at 12:27 pmI could spend all day long at Home Goods. When I have the time, I like to go up and down every single aisle to make sure I don’t miss anything. I always get tons of decorating ideas when I’m shopping at Home Goods.

September 29, 2017 at 2:51 pmA friend and I were laughing at the bumpy gourds I bought for our den. Any other time of the year, we would so not buy those ugly gourds but it never fails, as soon as Summer temps drop and Fall arrives, it’s all about finding the bumpiest, ugliest gourds we can for our Fall decor.

September 29, 2017 at 11:39 pmI don’t do much in the way of interior decorating for one season or holiday. I too would also say the throw cover on the back of the couch would be my favorite.

September 30, 2017 at 7:44 pmHow did you leave Homegoods without taking many carts of items with you? I would have to have so many things you featured in this post! I love filling hurricane light holders with seasonal items to make my home feel cozier. The faux flowers would add such a punch of colour to any room. Finally, the throw pillows would be a perfect touch to my couch in my living room!

October 3, 2017 at 5:16 pmI love Home Goods. They always have the best decor items. This year we’re decoring the outside of our house for fall and then decorating the inside for Christmas since we put our Christmas decorations up earlier than most. I do need to work on my coffee table styling because I suck at styling those so that it’s functional but still pretty.
