I’m not climbing that mountain + Wed Links

My son had a field trip a few weeks ago to Stone Mountain. It’s a huge mountain here in GA that people who are all about that fitness life climb. I refuse! So my son and his friends tried to get me to climb here is how the conversation went

Dman: Mom, you came on our field trip are you climbing the mountain?

Me: Hell to the no

His Friend: Come on Ms. Kita you can do this. If we can do this you can do this

Me: let me repeat myself Captial H to the E…to the double hockey sticks NO

His Friend: You are going to climb this mountain you can do this come on

So to appease them I walked up with them for about 5 min. They kept stopping to listen to the tour guide talk about the mountain it was a learning field trip

Me: Oh wow look at the time. Well it was nice walking with you all but I gotta go

Dman: Come on mom, please

Me: I love you but not enough to climb this mountain for you.

His Friend: You disappoint me I look up to you Ms. Kita

Me: You should look up to God he will never disappoint you

I started to walk away being proud of my decision not to walk up that mountain. As I was coming down the mountain I ran into another parent and we sat and watched the pretty leaves fall from the trees

The kids came back down and my son was in pain.

BTW I went on the field trip because I do like to show up for my kids. I may not participate but I do show up. I want my kids to know at least I am there.

Dman: Mom, Mom….my legs hurt, my feet hurt, I am in so much pain. Why do my thighs hurt?

Me: *falls out laughing* you see why I didn’t climb that mountain but I am proud of you because you did it.

He was aching for a min after that trip. I almost felt bad for him….almost

Wed. Links of the week

I have some saltine crackers in my closet I think I can make these

I love a good documentary! My favorite from this list was The Imposter

My mom use to have coordinating gift wrap or bags. Everything had to match the theme of the holidays

Having a flight attendant as a mom is so cool!

What kind of neighbor are you? Look through this list and let me know!

Where do you find a good man? Hell if I know…….

Real friends don’t break up….so if you have broken up with a friend they weren’t a friend, to begin with….bloop

I hate Brussel Sprouts but even I would eat this version of it

I probably wouldn’t have climbed that mountain either. We know what’s best for us and it’s up to us to make good decisions for ourselves.

I love your story – “You should look up to God, he will never disappoint you.” I climbed Stone Mountain for the first time when I was about 10. I remember it so well. I had been in a bicycle accident a few days before that day and something ripped off one of my toenails. I climbed it anyway. I must have been big and bad back then because I don’t really like heights now and doubt I would do it again. I do have the fondest memories of visiting Stone Mountain over and over when I was growing up in GA.

I’d have tried to climb the mountain, but I would have been in pain, that’s for sure. My daughter would have liked your God comment. She believes but my son who has autism and is very much into science would have been like, “Well, prove that to me.”

Once again I’m cracking up at your blog post. I love that you always show up for your kids. Like you said I show up but I might not participate. I’ve seen so many IG post about Stone Mountain and I can see why your son was in pain after climbing it.

You totally crack me up. I can definitely say that I am definitely not in shape to climb up the mountain. It’s funny that your son came down in pain and probably wondered why.

That is such a cute story. I wouldn’t try to climb a mountain these days. I am a bit scared of heights but my kids would love to get to the top of the mountain!

My kids are always wanting me to do something ridiculous! I remember that field trip when I was in middle school. Would I do it again? Nope. Nope. Nope.

I would have said I’d stay at the bottom and watch the stuff, or be down there in case anyone had to come down because they were scared.

We went to Stone Mountin earlier this year because my husband got free tickets. He hiked the mountain. I took the trolley car that goes up the mountain.

You should really try climbing a mountain. It’s not easy but I’m sure you’d learn a lot from it and enjoy the experience.

I love this post! When my kids were young, I also showed up for their field trip. I offered whatever help the teachers would need to make the trip a success. However, if I were in your situation, I would not climb that mountain. Oh no no no. The best I can do is to encourage, motivate and be my child’s very own cheering squad.

LOL, hey, at least you were there for them! This reminds me of when my mom took me horseback riding for my birthday. She wouldn’t actually get on the horse (well, she tried, for a second, then got freaked out and got off), but she was there and that’s what mattered.

You crack me up! Sometimes my boys will ONLY do something if I do it too, which is annoying yet empowering all at once. Glad you have this fun memory to look back upon.

I so love your links…Anywho, I would love to go on a hike one day. I might be visiting Georgia for Christmas so I might have to check this out. I’m sure I would be in some pain even though I workout but I would love to at least give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

I would probably have died part way up the mountain. I’m not in good enough shape right now to attempt it. Lemme get in shape first, and then maybe. 🙂 I’m sure he’ll appreciate you showing up eventually, even if you didn’t climb.

I love when you recap conversations with the kids. Sheer hilarity! You showed up and that is what matters. I would have climbed the mountain simply because I like to hike. The cold overnight field trips are no dice.

As many times as I’ve been to GA, I never knew you could actually climb that mountain. I’d like to try it one day. But I’m sure I’d be aching just like Dman.

I haven’t climbed Stone Mountain in years. Might be time for a trip. Especially since I’m down the street from it. I’m proud that your son made the climb. You cracked me up with your response to them asking.
