I’m not about this Dance life + Wed Links

My daughter has been dancing since she was about 3. I have heard horror stories about dancing, dance moms,  the money involved in dance but did I listen…..No. I went on and put her in when she was 7 years old now she is 8 and has done one full year of Dance. They have a Christmas Show coming up the day before my birthday (December 15th my birthday is the 16th) and I received the schedule for dance practice for the show. You know how you receive an email but you don’t really look at it you just glance at it and put it to the side (I mark it unread again so I can re-read later). After about 4 days I finally looked at the schedule for practice and I was like WTF….what on earth did I sign myself up for. I tried to talk my daughter out of it…..here is our conversation

Me: Oh Zaza come give mommy a hug (you gotta start off being nice to this little girl)

Zaza: Yay mommy wants a hug. I love you so much

Me: Awwww if you love me so much I have a favor to ask

Zaza: I knew this hug wasn’t free…..let me have it

Me: I was thinking…..maybe you should quit dance. Like quit right now….no questions asked no judgment given

Zaza: You want me to quit in the middle of the season

Me: Technically the middle of the season would be December but who’s counting. Yep just tell me you don’t wanna dance anymore. I will put you in something else

Zaza: Let me think about this…..

She goes off and thinks for about an hour and then comes back

Zaza: Mom sometimes I have to be the adult and in this situation….I am pulling rank. We will not quit. We finish what we started

Me: (In my head……you little……)

Me: You are right. Yes, what was I thinking you are so wise. We will not quit….

Meanwhile, I am finding any types of excuses I can to get out of all of these damn practices. I mean really are we going for an Emmy or something. Every day and all my Saturdays gone for the rest of the year. *cries and falls out like a child*

Links for the week

My kids want one of these….I wonder if I should charge rent for my backyard space teach them that ain’t nothing really for free

I am on Instagram Stories but to be honest I am still not sold yet. I am on snapchat and I know whose on there with me I have over 3,000 followers on Instagram I don’t know who’s watching and lurking

My daughter loves to paint her nails on a weekly basis she has more polish than I do

My daughter will try all types of food….this boy though is a very picky eater

Oh, I outsource cleaning. So glad my uncle paid for that for my Mothers Day present best present I could ever ask for

Coffee can change attitudes within seconds….I’m a tea drinker but I might give that coffee a chance one day

My kids don’t get along at all….but if I bribe them maybe they will take nice photos like these

Do you have in-laws? I have 99 problems and they ain’t one lol

I hear ya! I HATE sitting through my son’s gymnastic practice. It’s literally torture for an hour a week. I don’t want him to quit because he loves it, but I don’t want to sit there and watch them for an hour.

My kids have a 1-hour swim practice every day.. it’s a lot! I think the key is finding something to do – read, use your phone, bring your laptop and get work done. I get a majority of my blogging done while the kids are at their practices 🙂

That is why I way a horrible mom and we didn’t do dance. She later thanks me for it. Can’t believe the practice schedule and the money spent on outfits and not to mention hair and yes makeup for the girls.

My daughter took dance for a couple of years when she was little and when I went to the dance recital that second year and saw the way the older group of girls were dancing, I made a decision right then and there that no daughter of mine would be dancing like that. Thankfully, she was ready to give it up by then and we found other hobbies that she fell in love with.

I bet being a dance mom is tough! I know they practice a lot and that it is NOT cheap. I have friends who have kids who do it. I’m almost glad my daughter wasn’t impressed when I put her into ballet when she was tiny.

I totally get it. We do a lot of different things and sitting there twiddling your as for an hour is not my idea of a great time.

I’m considering putting my daughter in either some sort of dance or singing lessons because she walks around singing and remixing her own versions of songs…I’m definitely not looking to the accompanying expense it will bring though!

I wish someone had told me how much it can cost before we started. $320 a month! Add pointe shoes and tights and leos and performance costumes, etc.

My daughter took dance for 2 years. I hated the recitals. I was glad when she decided to quit. Now she takes piano after school, and I am much happier with that choice.

I danced for 10+ years when I was a kid and I LOVED it!! I think it is so great for the kids and for the teachers too. However I don’t know that I would want o be a dance Mom today with all the pressures that come with it! LOL!

I remember going to my kids’ karate practice. It seemed like it got more and more frequent.

Being a dance mom can be tough for sure. We did ballet for one year but my kid didn’t enjoy it. She does art now and loves it.

I love that my daughter dances. She is 12 and this is her fourth year. She does hip hop, and it’s a lot of fun. She has tried ballet and jazz, but always comes back to hip hop.

Those extracurricular schedules can be a lot to handle sometimes! My daughter never did dance but she did do cheerleading!

Oh, no! We just wrapped up gymnastics. Now she is doing ballet. I might need to rethink this before her second class this week.

Morgan wanted to do gymnastics so bad and this one little effer asked her “what’s wrong with your skin” and she never wanted to go back. I tried to let her know some kids are just blunt and don’t know better and she was like I don’t have time for that. Oh well!

The oldest is in marching band and they literally practiced all day ERRYDAY during the summer then 2x after school and then Fridays for home football games AND competitions. I was just sad I couldn’t go to more of the stuff because of my schedule.

And I’m not sold on IG stories either.

Good for her for wanting to finish what she started! That’s a great attitude to have. I don’t mind all of the running I do for my kids, it’s for things that are good for them.

Here i am cute 3inch heel boots, distressed jeans, T-shirt, leather jacket-i was fly. All the other moms wrapped up looking like the people of Walmart. NEVER again will I attend a full track meet.

Omg. This is why I’m so thankful for karate. 😉

Seriously. I never put her in real soccer, either. We’ve got enough to do.

This post made my morning, right here. Love it.

This is hilarious. As a former dancer myself I can’t wait to have a little girl to put in dance classes. Right now, my son is one and I’ll be putting him in a music class soon.

Sounds like a wise little girl. I’m glad we didn’t do dance with my daughter but we did do basketball with the boys so I know all about it.

My kids have a lot of different commitments and it is a lot to keep track of. We go to swim practice 5 days a week and then meets on Saturdays. That’s nice that your daughter wanted to stick with dance – sometimes they don’t really know what they want to do and that’s a tough situation.

I can relate to your situation. When my kids were young, I had to drive them to different activities they were interested in. The boys had sports practice and my daughter had dance classes. I think the only time I got my weekends back was when they started college. Oh well, that’s what parenting is all about – making sacrifices to support our child’s development.

My friend put her daughter in dance. It’s a hip-hop dance class. We all thought she would love it because dance is a big part of her day. Surprisingly, each class they do a dance-off soul train line and she doesn’t want to go anymore. We quickly learned that she only likes group, line dances. I hope that your daughter will keep it up if that’s where her passions lie.

LOL that convo was hilarious! Aw I used to love dancing, suffer through the practices mom, lol! I’m not a mom yet, but I’m quite sure I wouldn’t want to sit through all the practices and performances all of the time, so I feel you! Instastories are fun! They’ve low key replaced Snapchat! And I’ve heard Instastories are really important for bloggers/influencers.

I’m so weak at “sometimes I have to be the adult” hahaha You have a wise little one on your hands! Hopefully once you see her in one of her dance recitals you’ll feel better about it.
