Why does grilling matter?

I would like to take this time to talk about what really matters. *drumroll please*

The Grill.

So I just learned how to use my charcoal grill a few weeks ago. I had to get someone to come to my home to teach me because I was lost. I would try to light the grill and then when the fire got to high I would run…..I got tired of running so I stuck to my gas grill. Now that I have had someone on one training with the charcoal side I am ready to take over the grill for Memorial Day. I think I will cook a butt. The Pork Butt that is. I have heard the key to a good butt is to let it marinate all day. Any secret or tips Y’all can give me before Memorial day hits? Here is why grilling matters….

Grilling matters

If you are like me and you are new to the charcoal side let me give you some of my newfound tips

  • When building a charcoal fire, start with enough coals on the bottom grate to cover an area about 3 inches larger on all sides than the size of the food you plan to cook.
  • Add a few more briquettes if the weather is humid or windy.
  • Mound the briquettes and ignite them, leaving the grill’s lid off.
  • After lighting the coals, leave them in a pile or in the starter until they’re glowing red (about 20 minutes), then spread them over the grate in a single layer.

What will you be cooking up this Memorial Day on the grill?

Grilled Garlic Bead | Crème De La Crumb – Garlic bread is amazing already but if you grill it, it’s THE best!

Balsamic Garlic Grilled Mushroom Skewers | Closet Cooking – I love when I can take my favorite veggies and grill them along with everything else, like these mushrooms!

Bacon Ranch Grilled Potatoes | Gather for Bread – You can never go wrong with a good potato recipe!

Beer and Honey BBQ Chicken Skewers | Jo Cooks – Perk up your chicken skewers with this recipe!

Grilled Shrimp Broil Packets | Cooking Classy – Broil packets are so easy and they’re usually a big hit!

Grilled Doughnuts | Sugar Hero – Have you ever grilled a doughnut before?? You’ll be surprised at how good it is.

Bloomin’ Grilled Apples | The Gunny Sack – I have always loved cooked apples but when they’re grilled, they’re my favorite.

Grilled Asparagus | Recipe Critic – Asparagus has never been my favorite veggie, but when grilled like this, it tastes delicious!

Grilled Mexican Street Corn | Best Recipes of Food Blogs – This is a recipe I couldn’t believe I loved so much. A great addition to any grilled meal.

Grilled Peaches with Ice Cream | What’s Gaby Cooking – The sweetness of a peach is absolutely phenomenal when grilled, try it!

Our grill runs on propane, as does literally everyone else I know 🙂 I didn’t know they still made charcoal grills, but my dad used to have one a million years ago and you just brought up so many childhood memories for me 🙂

Oo yes, we do love to grill. I’ve done it a few times, but my husband is better at it. I tend to burn the food. Oops. I think it’s because I get distracted easily.

I haven’t used a charcoal grill since I was in high school. My sister and I had one of those small grills and we would have our own little BBQ in the back yard.

We have a propane BBQ, but I have a secret – I have never BBQ’d before! MY mom singed her eyebrows once when I was little and have been afraid hahaha – I know I should get over it but my husband does a great job. I will have to show him your recipes!

We have a propane grill, I prefer its flavor over that of charcoal. It took me a long time to get over my nervousness about grills but now I can actually grill by myself.

I love grilled food! We use propane but I do enjoy charcoal a little bit more. My favorite dishes are steak (of course!), corn on the cob, and asparagus! I can eat that all day long!

There is nothing like a good grill in the summer! I have to admit there is something about the taste of food over hot coals.

My husband has a gas grill, but he usually uses our charcoal grill. You just can’t get the same flavor with gas.

We totally love grilling and especially during the summer season. By the beach, pool, or simply to enjoy the outdoor weather. I personally love the steak and korean ribs! They’re super delish.
