Getting ready for a road trip with my girls

The week before mothers day I will be attending the Mom 2.0 Conference in Orlando and I am hitting the road with my Fab Five girls. I love a good road trip! Since I have never been on a plane the road takes me places that the plane won’t. When I take a road trip I get to stop in small towns, eat at new places, see exciting things, and just be free…..free from paying for extra baggage lol. When I travel I carry everything but the kitchen sink..I mean I don’t know you gotta be prepared. I don’t know how to pack light at all. Y’all give me some tips….Anywhoo I will be hitting the open road. Here is how I’m getting ready for a road trip with my girls.

Getting ready for a road trip with my girls

  • I don’t make stops for potty breaks every two hours. I don’t care if you 2 yrs old or 90 yrs old we ain’t stopping lol. I like to make sure everyone uses the bathroom before we head out because public bathrooms aren’t my thing at all
  • I will blast my music and talk on the phone the entire ride. I won’t do both at the same time but I will call and talk to a friend for about an hr then ride with my music for an hr and do that the entire way there
  • I carry snacks so you ain’t ever gotta worry about being hungry in my car

The longest I have traveled was 15 hrs on a road trip…yeah I know it’s bad. I will get on a plane one day but for now, I am loving the road trips and traveling to places that are near. I have also been on a train which is very nice but today we are talking about the wide open roads. Here are some tips before you hit the road

Plan out your trip. Are you going to stop in a certain town, where will you eat food at, are you going to be visiting anyone. When I went to Charlotte, NC a few weeks ago I stopped to visit a friend in Greenville, SC. I planned on visiting her and spending a certain amount of allotted time with her so that I can know the time constraints.

Look at a map before you hit the road. Yes I know we have our phones but if you are like me and have T-Mobile….you will know that the coverage doesn’t reach a lot of areas. You will get lost if you lose signal and lawd hammercy you will cry. I went two hours away last summer with the kids….lost signal…..and literally was about to have a breakdown because I was low on gas and it looked like nothing was in sight. Luckily I was able to turn around and not go too far off the beaten path before running out of gas. I filled up and got an actual map from the gas station and asked for specific directions just in case my GPSΒ went out again.

Share where you are going with a few people. Yes, I am a private person. I don’t like to share where I’m going because I don’t like people in my business but please make sure you tell at least two people where you are going so that they can know where you are just in case something happens. I know we like to “check in” on social media but have people who aren’t on social media know your whereabouts also. You can post that you are in timbuktu on your FB page and the very next day someone who isn’t paying attention will ask you where you at…..people don’t pay attention to social media that well so make sure you are accounted for.

Have your car serviced. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen folks on the side of the road with no help. Make sure you have a tow service on deck through Triple-A or through your car insurance. Just in case you get a flat or your car breaks down or if you stop to use the potty and lock your keys in the car (yes I have had that happen to me before smh)

Carry a first aid kit and have multiple chargers. I always have a first aid kit in my purse and I also have a bag of clothes readily available that’s not packed just in case I get stuck and I gotta pee orΒ something happens unexpectedly like I wasted a drink all over my good shirt (I have done this before)

Have your camera with you and document your trip. There is nothing like making sure you take pictures and videos to have as a reminder of how you lived for adventure. When you get old you will want to show your grandkids that hey mama had a life to lol

This summer I am not straying too far from home I will be in Orlando twice this summer and Savannah once. I think that will be all the traveling we will do until December where we plan on going to the Biltmore Estates for the holidays. Next summer we plan on taking our first cruise ever so that should be fun. Do you go on road trips? Where have you been and what was the best thing about driving? If you don’t do road trips tell me what you plan on doing for your summer travels?

I have kids, so not stopping is not an option. Even without them, we are stopping. I have no issue squatting – I am not holding it and getting a bladder infection.

What a fun trip! If I was riding with you, I’d have to negotiate on those bathroom stops or not stop for coffee. I hate public bathrooms but sometimes I have to make those bathroom stops. πŸ™‚ Have fun!!

Have an amazing time. My husband is the same way about potty breaks! He hates to stop so he’s like, “Get it all out now, I don’t know when we’ll be stopping again.” I’m used to it!

And we always have vehicles checked out. Just in case. My biggest fear is breaking down in the middle of no where.

Sounds like a great and fun trip. I am not a big driving fan anymore but used to enjoy my yearly L.A to S.F and back trip with my best friend yearly. Now, the eyesight and responsiveness is not the same :-). We just did Seville to Valencia trip and l was a backseat driver the whole time :-).

My oldest daughter has autism so we have never flown with her. I do want to take a trip to Florida but I understand that if we do it anytime soon, we will have to take that 16 hour drive. We will not have a choice but to stop for breaks (if traveling during the day) but I believe in stopping only when necessary on road trips. I also believe in traveling at night with the kids so they can sleep for most of the way. Have a great trip!

You’re just like me, lol. I do NOT stop at all. People always wonder how I make it to Miami or Atlanta in 4 hours. Baby that’s why! But wonderful tips, I’ll be using some on my next road trip to visit family next month. Have fun with your girls!

I’m a private person too but I make sure I inform someone about travelling plans
I would want to stop from time to time during a road trip though
I’m sure your trip will be fun with your girls.
    Safe trip!

I love road trips. I have never gotten to go road tripping with my girlfriends, but my kids and husband are awesome travel buddies. And we hate stopping for potty breaks too.

We drive to Louisiana every year for Christmas. That’s enough road trip for me. I don’t I could ride with you. Just because you said we can’t stop for two hours then I’ll have to pee in 15 mins. I can only hold it if I’m the one driving. That’s weird I know. LOL! We are actually going on a cruise next month and I am really stressed about not being able to pack the kitchen sink. I feel like I need to start packing now to get it right. Have fun this week!

Aren’t road trips the best (although, if I’m being honest traveling my plane is my go-to/preference!). I’m so excited because I’m taking a road trip from Chicago to Canada (about 8 hours) this Memorial Day and I can’t wait (this will be my first time in Canada!).

Getting your car serviced is important! I’m going on a road trip by myself with my kids this summer and have an old car, so we are renting. I’m afraid of breaking down!

Wishing you a good time in Orlando! I love road trips because there is so much to see – the landscape, the towns, the people! However, I cannot do a road trip without stopping for potty breaks. I am diabetic and I have to use a toilet when I need to use one! Anyway, you just do what works for you and have fun at the Mom 2.0 conference!

An all girls road trip will be definitely fun. Hope a you had a grand time on your trip. About the bathroom stop it’s none negotiable for me it is a must to stop at least every 2-3 hours for a pee break.

I always listen to music on any drive, long or short. Tunes are a must. As far as the bathroom goes, if someone has to go they have to go and I don’t mind stopping rather than them being uncomfortable or even having an accident.

How great for you to get to attend Mom 2.0. I have not taken a road trip with my girl friends in years. I think we need to plan one soon. I love your tip about letting people know where you are. Can never be too safe.

Wishing you a great time at the Mom 2.0 Conference. Road trips are fun because I get to enjoy the landscape and the scenery up close. Plane rides can’t give you that. However, I cannot go on a road trip without having to stop to pee or eat. πŸ™‚

Like you, I must travel with my snacks. Even if I don’t even eat most of them. I will call folks when I get sleepy to help keep me alert.

I don’t like driving long distances, I’m not that type of friend. 8hrs to SC or GA is my absolute max.

I love both road trips and flying. My husband and I often did road trips when we first began dating. You’d be surprised at how much you find out about a person during a road trip. Great tips and advice.

Love traveling and this is a great post. I always love to go on a road trip with my family. We generally start very early in the morning when the weather is cool and you can capture the early morning sun rays.

We love road trips in our family. When we don’t have a ton of time to travel (just a weekend or 3 day weekend) we find nice little getaway towns in our area and head out! It’s always so nice and still something to do on little time

Road-tripping and trips in general with my girls are among my favorite things to do. Driving isn’t always the most fun but when you’re with your girls you can do and get through anything.
