Defining my personal style

I am not a fashion blogger. I repeat I am not a fashion blogger. A lot of folks always get on me about my fashion style but I want to explain why I don’t care. Let me back up a min……

I grew up in an era in the late 90s early 2ks where fashion was baggy pants I thought I was Aaliyah back in the days with the baggy pants and the stomach showing with the tight shirt on my tatas. I always loved the baggy sweat pants look. It’s been my style for a long time. I occasionally dress up if the occasion calls for it but I am the most comfortable with sweats and a tshirt. I am a big girl so I hate having things on my tummy constricting me. The elastic of sweats works best for me.

In college I wore sweats and tshirts with jeans thrown in every so often. If I had a speech or I had to dress up for the occasional date I would do that but I was most comfortable in my sweats. After kids and getting bigger because of life……I have found it hard to define my personal style. It wasn’t until my 30’s that I finally found the courage to say look I wear what I want to wear and I do what I want to do. No longer do I worry about what people think about my fashion style. I like to call myself the queen of sweat pants! So as a big girl what types of clothes do I wear when I want to up my fashion game……

Torrid is my all time favorite for hip and youthful looking clothes. I love that their clothes don’t look like old people clothes. I shop there all the time but they are quite expensive. If I buy something from here it’s always a cute shirt or something dressy. I love their jackets (my arms are big so I always wear a jacket) and their dressy shirts.

Old Navy is another place that I shop at often.  I love their jeans because they fit nicely. I opt for their jeans the most if I do wear any type of jeans. I am not big on their outfits because it seems like everyone and their mama wears old navy but I have a few shirts and stuff from them that I enjoy on occasion

Fashion Nova is a new store and I admit I was skeptical in trying them out because I don’t know how they fit. I bought two pants from there that I liked and sadly one doesn’t fit. The jeans in this pic

I however did buy a green pants that is so cute. I have no idea how I will dress it up yet but I like it

The jeans can’t get past my thighs so I am bummed about that. I might keep it in hopes that I will wear it one day but I doubt it will be anytime soon lol

So that’s just a little of my fashion taste here are some fab places to shop at for big girls

  • TJ Maxx online…yes they have a plus size section
  • Rebdolls love their sets
  • Simply Be…if I want to dress it up…this is where I go
  • 17 Sundays….my favorite place to shop that not many people know about

Of course you know the reg stores like Lane Bryant, Torrid as I mentioned above, Old Navy, Marshalls, Macys, etc. Two of my favorite plus size models to follow on Instagram are Rochelle Johnson and Hayetrida.

So what is my personal style…..anything that I feel comfortable in because I am the one that has to wear these outfits. I am short so it’s hard to find clothes that I don’t have to take up but I am going to find a good seamstress for that. All in all I think fashion is whatever you define as what you like and what you are willing to wear in public. What I know is that fashion comes and goes and what was hot back then does come back around and it’s best to not keep up with the hottest trends but to just be classic in your own way.

Where do you shop for your fashion? How do you define your style?

I will be checking out 17 Sundays haven’t heard of them. Everyone like to be stylish and comfortable. Plus not paying a small fortune is always helpful.

These look like some great clothes. I shop at Old Navy as well. I tend to go for the casual look. My outfit is usually jeans and t-shirts. I’m all about comfort.

I’m pretty casual most days since I work from home, but I do love to dress up occasionally. I always look forward to my monthly StitchFix and I love the Stein Mart boutique.

I am also not a fashion type person. I usually am way behind the times because I just wear the same thing as I were last year or the year before. When I do shop Old Navy is probably the biggest place I go. They have a lot of choices and the prices are great.

Yes, I grew up in that same era so that type of dress is very familiar to me lol. I’m a thrifter because I love vintage clothing. You definitely gotta wear what makes you feel comfortable and that sounds like exactly what you’re doing.

Fashion is not about something that will please others. In fact, it should be something that one is comfortable in and likes to wear. This is what is most important.

I used to love shopping but I kinds dislike it now. Don’t get me wrong. I love clothes and looking fly, I just don’t like going from store to store to find stuff. That being said, I love shopping at The Loft. The just always have my size which is small. and x-small. It’s never a struggle in there.

I’m a “Fashionista in Training”. I’m losing weight and enjoying shopping once again. One of my fave places to shop is ELOQUII. I love that store. My style? I’m pretty casual and laid back when it comes to fashion.

Looks like you found some great stuff! I don’t really have much style at all.. my wardrobe is pretty simple and consists of comfortable clothes. I dress up for special occasions but honestly I am either at work or at the pool for my kid’s swim team or leading my girl scout troop!

I guess I would describe my personal sense of style as being minimalistic. I grew up on Aaliyah too- she was so stylish!

I’m the same way… if the clothes aren’t comfortable, than I just won’t wear it. As much as I try to stay on trend, I need to make sure that I still feel like I can move around in my clothes all day.

Torrid is my go to for clothes if I’m shopping outside of my house. I have a fashion boutique for plus size women and my favorite brand is Zenana. Affordable and SO CUTE. I didn’t realize TJ Maxx had plus size!

Old Navy is one of my favorite places to shop! Surprisingly, Target has a cute brand called WhoWhatWear that sells pretty chic stuff. Thanks for the tips.

I LOVE Torrid! It’s a perfect combination for cute and stylish for plus size women. I hate that being plus size you have to shop mostly online! I have looked at Fashion Nova but never purchased anything from there! I may have to check them out! I think my personal style would be cute and comfortable. I was just telling coworkers that prior to kids I always had on heels, but afterward, it was like I need to be cute but able to move! So my style has become very relaxed!

We are so alike in many ways. I love my jeans and tshirts, with trainers or flats. My mom always wants me to “dress up” like my sisters but its just not me! I will have to check out these clothes stores too. I may get a few pieces to wear for a family get together before Thanksgiving.

This is a great post because shopping is really hard for me. I shop at Torrid because it is easy and the clothes are cute. I think everybody has to keep their pwersonal style. I am glad you are comfortable with what you like.

I’m love dressing, but my casual days need work. I use to always look like I was going to some 9-5 even on the weekends.

I also love/rely on a comfy everyday style. My favorite stores are JCPenney, Lane Bryant and for blouses/tops only I have begun to shop at Rainbow. They have some really cute, on trend stuff at crazy reasonable prices.

I like shopping at Burlington, TJMaxx, Tar-jay and thrift stores. Back in the day before everyone caught on to Ebay shops, I used to love shopping at Bloomindale’s through Ebay. They had a dollar shop with super low bids and branded stores. I was getting boxes every week in college. My style is either sexy Bgirl (weekends), frumpy around the house (m-f) or casual glam (events). Those are my go-to’s LOL!!

Same – comfort is my personal style. I still have stuff from years ago that I won’t get rid of because “it’s so comfortable”. Old Navy is my go to for jeans too. I’ve also found some from Target too believe it or not. But anyway I have more confidence in what I’m wearing if I’m comfortable. If it needs to many adjustments to look good then I don’t feel good wearing it.

  • […] After I leave the dollar section I make my way to the clothes section. I am plus size and they have some great outfits for my size. No lie I have some grey jeans from Target that I bought 3 years ago and they still fit good and they hug my curves very well. Makes me even look like I have a booty when I have none. Their plus size section is nice and I can even fit some of their women stuff if they have a size 18. The grey pants above…I bought it in a size 16 and it fits me perfectly! I love that they fit my style! […]
