Be your own Valentine + Wed Links

February 7, 2018

This Valentine’s Day is the 3rd Valentine Day that I won’t have a Valentine. I am not sad at all about it but I want to focus on being my own Valentine this year more so than ever. I ran into an associate the other day who always told me that I needed to lose weight and put on makeup……..

Associate: Kita, I think you would look better if you put on some makeup and lose some weight. And my gosh why don’t you wear heels you are so short you could stand to gain some height.

Me: And what’s wrong with you because only God is perfect

Associate: Huh what do you mean nothing is wrong with me I am the bomb

Me: Really, well that’s wonderful I am glad. I like me, how you think I look is not my concern

This convo took place back in 2012 I saw her earlier this year in the store and she had gained twice the amount of weight I had and she looked tired. She tried to avoid me when she saw me but I just love making my presence known

Me: Hey, how are you long time no see.

Associate: Oh hey girl yeah it’s been a long time. You still look the same

Me: and you look horrible now what was it you told me about losing weight again.

Conclusion ~ Yeah I said it and the look on her face was great. You see if you can dish it out make sure you can take it back because no one and I do mean no one is perfect. Although I may not be a size 2 like I use to be, although I may be dark, although I may not be the finest thing out there I still have a sense that although you may look good on the outside something may be wrong with the inside and it will show. This Valentine be your own Valentine. Take yourself out to dinner, take yourself out to the movie to see Black Panther, buy yourself some flowers, and take the day to focus on you. Even if you have a boo don’t depend on them to show you a good time show yourself a good time by focusing on loving who you are.

I want my kids to go to this school so bad but you have to compete with over 500+ kids for only 30 spots *cries*

I need to get on the ball with Valentine’s Day handouts for my daughters class my son said no thank you

My mom use to always tell me to cool a fever with a wet cloth. This helps out so much with that!

I personally like to use my 35mm for lifestyle photography. I love my nifty fifty too when I want to carry something lighter

If you have a small business or knows someone that does and they would like some extra exposure for free let me know. I would love to have them on my business blog

I bought one thing from this list because target is the devil

My kids love fortune cookies if I was of the crafty kind I would make this for my kids

They opened up a bath bomb store in my neighborhood. I am not a huge fan of them because they may or may not make my skin breakout but I love when you can make your own!

I can’t believe that a friend would talk about you like that in such a negative way. Know we aren’t suppose to take joy in getting back at a person. But I can see why you said what you said. I tell my kids we didn’t start out looking like this. Be happy with you and I agree treat yourself to a great valentines day.

Heck yes, I am with you! Be your own Valentine! I’m all about that. Honestly, we barely even do much for Valentine’s Day. Plus it’s in the middle of the week this year, so eh, I think I’ll order a pizza and call it a day.

How rude of your associate, you got the best of her. My daughter loves bath bombs. She keeps asking to make them. She wants to sell them.

I love the idea of being your own Valentines. I’ve always been a believer that Valentine’s Day was a day to celebrate ALL the love in your life (i.e. friends, family) not just the romantic kind. I’ve actually never had a “Valetine’s” but I love celebrating Galentine’s Day with my girlfriends.

Funny how those tables turned Kita. Seeing Black Panther is definitely on my agenda this month, maybe not Valentine’s Day because it’s Ash Wednesday, I’ll be at church and I’ve got a big weekend planned that President’s Day holiday weekend. You don’t need a sweetheart to enjoy the day… just enjoy the day.

Valentine’s Day is on Ash Wednesday this year, so it’s a weird combo of holidays. Being you own valentine is the way to go no ,Ayer what though.

My husband banned me from Target in 2015 but I have got myself in a couple of times under false pretenses (I needed something for my blog.) I can agree with you that Target can be the devil.

Wow, I am sorry that you have dealt with negativity like this. As you said, no one is perfect and celebrating who we are and exactly how we are is what is important in life! You do you, enjoy life!

This person might have a personal issue and finds you and others a good victim. Ignore this person. Or perhaps you can befriend her/him after all and help him “heal” by being a friend.

I haven’t had a Valentine in a long time and it’s not a bad thing! I think there are tons of ways to celebrate and not feel weird or alone. LOL!

This post cracked me up! Some people can be so tactless. I am glad you stood up for yourself. Loving your body and being confident in being you is the best weapon you can have against people who do nothing but see fault in others. I wish you a Happy Valentine\s day!

Loved reading about your tryst with the associate. That indeed is how the cookie crumbles. It is an individual’s choice as to how they look or want to look.

I have never understood why people feel the need to be mean to each other. I learned early to just walk away, I wouldn’t want to sink to their level. Many of us can be kinder to ourselves, being our own Valentine is a great idea.

Valentine’s is all about Love, and if you can’t start with yourself you should not be trying to be with anyone else. (Take it from someone who’s on her 3rd marriage) Loving your attitude about it all, continue being true to YOU. BB2U

Great idea! For me Valentines Day is just a normal day too. I can celebrate it at home. I hate it that this time Valentine’s day is so commercialized. About the associate, just ignore her. Lol!

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, at least not the husband and me. My daughter’s class is having something so she had to make Valentines and a Valentine box. I made the box lol because I wanted it to be cute.

This situation is a great reminder that we have to watch who we call our friend and who we let into our lives. I’m glad you did not let her words bother and you’re living your best life.

Even if I thought that about someone I would never say that to their face. That is just rude. I believe in loving on me as much and often as possible. We are having a nice family dinner at home for V. Day. I will make the table cute and festive for us and the kids but that is it.

First, she was rude as hell. Who tells anyone that. She has some damn nerve. Second, I’m glad you went there because I would have. It’s ok to be your on Valentine. Hell its a man made holiday anyway.

MY friend actually made homemade fortune cookies for my Galentines Party. I host a Galentine party for the last 6 years and its away to show women to celebrate Vday holiday with friends and to also be ok with being your own valentine on the 14th.

I don’t even get caught up in the Valentine’s day hoopla. As long as you remain faithful to yourself and being the best person you can be then love will come regardless of the day.

Yikes to that entire encounter. I have found that some things aren’t worth it and I personally wouldn’t have went out of my way to approach her on second sighting, but everyone is different. I’m definitely in agreement about being your own Valentine. I’m currently on vacation and when I get back on VDay I have so many meetings, I’ll be excited to jump into my bed.

Super ride, I feel like people should def. mind there own business. Mommy always said if you don’t have anything nice to say, dont say nothing at all. I’m so glad that you were able to see her years later and give her a taste of her own medicine. Karma is real. LOL
