A cafe all about the honey

What do you get when you mix honey with breakfast? You get a good meal at the Tupelo Honey Cafe. The hubs birthday was a few weeks ago and he loved breakfast food so we decided to go somewhere new on his birthday to celebrate him and his love for…well pancakes. We went on a vacation on the gulf coast of FL a few years ago and learned about tupelo honey and we have been a fan ever since. The soul purpose of going to the Tupelo Honey Cafe was to make sure we tasted the honey to see exactly what the hype was about. We went to the one in Sandy Springs, GA which is about an hr drive from where I live. Going on a Sunday morning was the perfect thing to do because it was before church was out and before the crowd came out. When we got there a lot of people had made reservations…I was unaware that you could do that for smaller groups. That’s good to know so you can reserve your spot for two people and have it ready when you get there. Very nice feature!

So we had to wait for about 15 min but that wasn’t bad. They seated us and then brought over the menu. Now I have kids who are picky so at first they were like mom they don’t have regular pancakes we don’t want sweet potato pancakes….I was like you are going to eat sweet potato pancake or starve. So they decided to do the sweet potato pancake and I ordered the french toast. I asked about the biscuits because I didn’t know if I had to order them separately or what but he brought over some and a bottle of honey and my kids dived in. The drinks were kind of questionable they had coke products but they also had a few other drinks that I had never tried so I asked the waiter to recommend me some drinks. He did and the one I had was pretty good…I don’t remember the name but it was something fizz or another.

The biscuits came with it’s own jelly or jam or whatever that goodness was. It was so good we were licking the spoon…

My French toast had the same sauce on it as well and it was very good

did I mention that it also came with bacon on top….geesus be a diet

Anywhoo the kids smelled their pancakes and investigated it like it was a crime scene

They finally ate and the results…..mom wow this is good we should trust you more often. So I told them I had the pancakes before but honestly I never did I just wanted them to know that it was good…..I didn’t know if it was or not but I went with it lol. Thankfully it was pretty good.

Here is some of the things I liked about the spot

  • You could make reservations that is good even for a party of two…you can walk right in and be seated
  • You can see them cook your food…that feature is rare in most restaurants so I was glad that they had that
  • The place looked small on the outside but it was pretty huge and nicely decorated on the inside
  • You could buy products like the honey
  • The prices were reasonable our breakfast came to about $42 that included the sweet potato pancake breakfast for the kids (two of them), the french toast for me, and drinks.

The food did take a while to come that I didn’t like so much but overall it was a great first experience. I didn’t like that the biscuits were hard….I wish they were a bit softer but…it was still eatable. Will I drive out there again for it? Probably not it would have to move in a little closer to me but I love trying out new places to eat. Have you tried the Tupelo Honey Cafe? If so which area?

I love nontraditional pancakes – sweet potato, buckwheat, you name it! How can you resist carbs and sugar?
