8 Tips to Enjoy the Super Bowl Even if Your Team Didn’t Make it

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had some rough seasons with my team. Cheering for a team is a lot like cheering for your own dreams because we all wish we could be there and know how good it must feel. We often feel for them when they don’t make it or lose a tough game. Outside of that, if you’re really into football, it can be a huge bummer when your team doesn’t make it because it somehow seems to steal the magic of the Super Bowl day. I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be bummed on Super Bowl day! Here are 8 tips to still having fun even if your team didn’t make it all the way to the Super Bowl.

  1. Cheer for your friend’s team. Odds are, you know someone who is cheering for a team that actually made it to the Super Bowl. Instead of crying about it all night, join them for a game in cheering on their team. It will get you back into the spirit and make it more fun for them!
  2. Host the party. Football games are football games. They’re fun to watch and follow even if your team isn’t involved. Make a party out of the day anyways. The host or hostess usually doesn’t get to sit and watch the game as much anyways so if you host the party, you will be more focused on your guests and less on the game.
  3. Make a game out of it. Just because your team isn’t playing doesn’t mean you can’t make a bet on the winner. Of course, don’t go overboard because gambling can suck but make a fun game out of it. For example, make bets for things like having to pay for lunch for the next week, etc.
  4. Make up a drinking game. A little touch of alcohol always makes things a little more interesting and fun. Make a little drinking game out of the Super Bowl festivities. You can either do it based on the game such as a shot for every interception or a shot for every time someone yells “No!” from the audience you’re sharing the game with. I’m sure you can think of better ideas for this but it’s just an example of the possibilities!
  5. Choose a team for the night. If you don’t have a friend or relative who has a team playing in the Super Bowl, pick your favorite out of the two that are playing. If you hate both, pick the lesser of two evils like we had to do for the election. We all survived that and had some fun moments for election night.
  6. Help a charity that night during the game. I know this sounds crazy but I have a friend who helps hand out soup for the Super Bowl game day to those who need it. It’s a pun, I hope you caught that but it’s also a good excuse to use the day for some good as well. You don’t have to miss the game either if you don’t want to. She hands out the soup earlier in the day and then spends the night at a youth outreach watching the game with a group of troubled teens. Of course, most of them don’t have a team but truly get into the game because they have somebody who cares about it around them.
  7. Use it as an excuse to spend time with family and friends. It can suck if your team doesn’t make it but completely opting out of the celebration all the way around just because your team failed, is a horrible loser of an idea. A lot of people use this day as a holiday of sorts to gather together and spend time with one another. Instead of focusing so much on the game that night, which is easy to do when your team is in it, just focus on catching up with family and friends.
  8. Go for the food. Ok, this may be ridiculous but seriously, some of the best food is on Super Bowl Sunday. Try to kick back and at least enjoy the food if you can’t bring yourself to enjoy the football. The day will not be lost!

I always enjoy the Super Bowl no matter who’s playing. I love all the commercials, and the halftime show is always awesome.

Although our team doesn’t usually make it to the Super Bowl, we still love to watch. I host a party when I can. I mainly watch for the commercials and halftime show lol.

As of now, my team is still in contention, so I am taking things one game at a time. I don’t want to think about how I will feel if they don’t make it all the way.

We only watch for the commercials and for the half time show. We also host a party, so it’s nice to have everyone together watching the game and eating good food.

These tips are great for Super Bowl or for any other sport. I would probably do the host a party and go for the food tip. You’re so right. The food on game days are tops!

I’m lucky enough to be distant enough from the game to not care if my team is in it to win it. But, I have always enjoyed gathering with friends and family to cheer on whichever team I like better. This year is my turn to host the party!

So, we are so not football people at all. We know nothing about the game or who is even the superbowl LOL!

I don’t care about football, but I’m the one with the bigger TV so my cousins come over, everyone brings a ‘homegate’ favorite, and we just hang out, it’s always fun and I have no idea what is going on at any point. I love the smack talk and the rituals everyone has to be sure their team wins! LOL
