6 Things Every Home Office Needs

Outside of the usual, there are specific things I have found a home office must have in order to be a true home office. I’m not one to go over the top with decorations or anything of the sort. However, I do have a specific way I like things in my office. I have no doubt I’m not the only one who has personal preferences for their work space because it’s where you spend a lot of time. Even outside of personal preferences and the usual, there are still certain things an office needs to be successful as an office space.

Quiet

You know what I’m talking about. It’s impossible to get anything done if there’s a bunch of racket going on in the background. In order for anyone to get their thinking cap on and get work completed, their office space needs to be quiet.

A Comfy Chair

There’s nothing worse than having a long day (or even a short day) of work in an uncomfortable office chair. Not only does it make posture worse, it can cause nerves to be pinched, tight muscles, and poor circulation. Having a comfortable chair makes it feel like an entirely different world. I’m not joking. I just switched chairs and it made it feel like I could tackle a month’s worth of work in one day.

A Clock

This one might just be me but if I don’t have a clock in front of my face, I’m losing track of time. The great thing about a home office is the fact that you can pause and get things done around the house. However, for me, if I don’t have a clock to remind me what time it is, the time will come and go and I will have no idea. So, maybe an alarm clock would work as well. Either way, I like to keep a larger clock on the wall in front of me somewhere so it catches my eye from time to time. Those tiny computer clocks don’t work.

Inspiration

Every great home office has things that inspire you. Whether it’s a photo of your favorite animal or an inspirational quote, be sure you decorate with a couple of things that will lift you up when you need. A home office is where we work and work can be stressful. Having things that inspire us only helps us get through the day.

Zero Distractions

Even though keeping things quiet helps to deter distractions, having a TV in your home office probably doesn’t help things either. Be sure to keep your office clear of anything that easily distracts you so you can keep focused. The last thing you need is losing more time and getting behind on work.

A Comfortable Atmosphere

When I say comfortable, I don’t just mean keeping it quiet or getting that comfortable chair. I mean, make sure you have the room set to where you have air conditioning and heat. You need it to be the perfect temperature or it can be hard to focus on what you need to get finished. Make sure you have plenty of room too. It’s super uncomfortable to be scrunched and unorganized simply because you don’t have enough space. It reduces a ton of stress when you have plenty of room to work with.

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to home offices but I think we can all agree that all or most of these are pretty universal.

I love all of these. I also have a nice big speaker in my home office. To me, loud music is a help and not a distraction.

I can’t get anything done without my trusty chair. It keeps my back in good order while I sit and type.

Yes to zero distractions. I have to be in a space without any distractions or I don’t get any work done.

You’re definitely right about these. I could use a lighter, more open area to work in. I like putting up little things that inspire me too.

I have back issues, so a comfy chair would be my first item to buy. After that, I think the zero distractions is big for me.

This is so true. It’s important to have some peace and quiet in your home office as well as something that will inspire you. Comfort is key especially if you work at home and spend so much time there.

That’s really awesome! It sounds like a great way to keep track of the kids especially when they’re out or when they’re accessing the internet. This app is definitely a must have.

I need to redecorate my home office, these days it’s just piled up with clutter and it doesn’t do me any good. These are all important to have! Especially a comfy chair!

The “Zero Distractions” is certainly a challenge in my neighborhood, my apartment complex is super noisy! I am an insomniac and tend to find peace and quiet when the world is asleep, so I work better late at night than I do in the morning. I would like that cozy chair!

We are turning our spare bedroom in a home office soon and a comfy chair is first on my list. Thankfully, now that the kids are older, it’s not so noisy so peace is easy to come by here.

These are definitely important things to have. We live in a small home and both my husband and I work from home. While we don’t have a home office per se, we do have an area that is comfortable and as free from distractions as it could be with 6 kids! Ha ha! 🙂

These are all great things to have for a home office. My home office’s window faces the backyard and gets a fantastic view of the sunset over the hills. That is my main distraction. Haha. I sit and stare at all that beauty outside my window. But guess what? I love it! That is a distraction I look forward to every afternoon.

My home office is my little sanctuary. I have a comfy chair, ample space for my desktop, laptop and writing materials. I made sure I had lots of natural light too. My vanity item in there is a La-Z-Boy recliner. A hard worker needs a nice place to rest too.

Yes I totally agree especially with the temperature. My office area sets me up directly in front of the window so when there is a nice breeze, I get my best work done!
